Maddie didn't want to explain everything. It felt too long and convoluted. She was tired, emotionally and physically. "My boyfriend makes portals."

"Uh-huh...So...did your boyfriend, who I was never told about, by the by, pay for two separate rooms? Also, you could have come home if a tsunami was hitting and your had to portal out. Home is where the heart is, and all."

Maddie looked around. "Like I said, he'd been gone all night."

That didn't really answer Sariah's question, but that was because Maddie didn't want to lie, but she also wasn't keen on telling her sister the truth.

"Hey, I have to go. I'll call you later and explain." Before Sariah could reply, Maddie ended the call and looked at Zippo.
