Angus loved the beach. Back home he’d headed down to the beach almost every weekend, at first with his board and no one else, though as he got older he usually brought more and more people down with him.

There were a lot of things on this island that got on his nerves. The school, the people in it, all these weirdo people acting like they were all special or something. But, if nothing else, the island had nice beaches. So if he ever needed to unwind, or was feeling particularly homesick, he’d usually head down there and see how the surf was.

Plus, it gave him a chance to show off, and that wasn’t something he missed.

After having caught a few waves, Angus walked out of the water and onto the sand, wearing nothing but his boardshorts, and sat down next to his board, taking a moment to relax.

The beach was one of the places Kon still loved from his previous life. As Sprinkles, he jumped at the chance to spend time at the beach. It was one of the few times he could go out and have fun. Which made the stereotype of cats disliking the beach all the funnier (and sometimes more annoying) to him.

Konpeitō exited the changing room with all his accessories taken off and wearing an EMT-themed one-piece outfit. There were even buttons on it so he could show off his pecs. But only a little. Enough to intrigue and snatch up prey.

For now, Kon wanted to appreciate the nice weather and relax. He particularly enjoyed watching a guy surf. It was one of those skills that Kon admired but never found the passion to learn. So when the man stopped surfing and went to relax on the sand nearby Kon's setup, he didn't hesitate to let his mouth run. It didn't help that the guy had a particularly nice body.

Walking over to the man, Konpeitō smiled widely and waved. "Hi there! I couldn't help but notice your surfing. That was really impressive."

Angus turned at the sound of their voice and was unable to hide the look of bewilderment that immediately sprung up on his face. What the hell were they wearing? Who shows up to a beach in the afternoon just casually dressed like that? Sexy Halloween costumes weren’t due for another few months at least.

Though, once he got over his initial surprise, the compliment was enough of an ego pad to keep him from vocalising his thoughts on their choice of dress.

“Nice of you to notice,” He said, his usual smug smile spreading on his face. “I ‘ve been surfing since I was a little boy, it kinda comes naturally to me.”

Some weird looking cat man wasn’t exactly the sort of attention he’d hoped to attract on the beach, but he figured he’d spare him a few moments of his time. It was only midday, he’d have plenty of time to find more titillating company later.

“You much of a surfer?” He asked before his eyes kinda looked over those clothes again. “Or uh, I don’t suppose you’d be a lifeguard dressing up like that.”

Konpeitō gave an amused chuckle at the man's confusion. He loved the faces he got from the unique outfits he put on for the beach. Concern. Disgust. Attraction. Confusion. It was all great.

The man didn't stay confused for long, at least. If it did, Kon was certain he'd be told to leave. But he wasn't, so he sat down now that he was invited for a conversation.

"Nope to both. I'm just a guy who enjoys the beach. Surfing is something I enjoy watching, but I bet if I decided to learn, I'd be great at it. I much prefer swimming and talking to people at the beach, though."

"Ah well, those are perfectly good reasons to enjoy the beach as well," He said, keeping an affable tone in his voice. "There aren't much better places to meet people, yeah. Though, if you do wanna try surfing I'm sure I could show you a few tricks."

He practically radiated confidence, obviously taking a lot of pride in his own skill. He flashed him another smile, before holding out a hand.

"But, before any of that, I'm Angus Audron."

Kon enjoyed this man. He was confident and friendly. Two qualities Kon liked in any person they spoke with. It made speaking to them on his level easier. Not feeling the need to tease someone for being weak-willed or throw passive-aggressive insults at an asshole was a nice change of pace around here.

Kon's ears perked up at the "Audron" surname. The fact that he was blonde with amber eyes further led Kon to believe that he was a relative of Jazz. "I'm Konpeitō Hatsu. Kon for short. I wouldn't mind being taught some tricks, but before any of that," he said with a joking tune, "are you a relative of Jazz Audron?"

His eyebrow twitched.

Of course, he knew Jazz, probably one of her weird nerd friends if the name and how weird they were dressed up was anything to go by.

But, Angus wasn't so displeased to hear his dear sisters name that he let it show, and he was good enough at hiding what he was feeling to keep it from being too obvious. He simply blinked, playing up the surprise he felt at hearing her name.

"That I am, she's my sister. You a friend of hers or something?"

"Aha, I was right!" Kon was ecstatic that he guessed right. It was the same thrill he got when he solved a book's mystery before the characters did. Except that this time it was in real life, so it was much more satisfying.

At this point, Kon was familiar enough with his shape-shifting to know the colors of his body had become vibrant. Some might even call it an eyesore, as his hair was already colorful. He was even correct in his guess that his eyes were now shiny like gemstones. Those were harmless enough changes that he didn't even bother reverting himself back to normal, nor would he acknowledge them unless it was acknowledged first.

"I'm honestly not sure what I'd call her. We're friendly, but I feel like she's a bit too young to be a friend-friend, you get me? But I like her, and we chat occasionally, and sometimes I help her with stuff, so take that as you will."

Wow, that was a garish as hell display. Angus couldn’t keep the disgruntled expression hidden that time, seeming to squint as the colours were made even brighter in the midday sun. Was he flexing on him or something? Trying to show off with that fancy-schmancy shiny look? Angus wasn’t very amused.

“Alright Sherlock, no need to get too excited about it.” He said, a little peeved, before taking a moment to regain his composure. “But yeah, you do seem like someone she’d be friendly with.”

It sounded innocuous, but it was more of a backhanded compliment than anything else, given his own opinion on Jazz. He kept that to himself, though.

“So how do you know her? You from the school or something?”

It was entirely possible that he was and Angus just never noticed, even with how much Kon tried to stand out. He never really did pay attention to people he didn’t have reason to care about.

Konpeitō noticed that Angus was having trouble looking at him now that he was so bright. He would have turned his colors back... if not for Angus' next words. Kon was surprised by how passive-aggressive he became. Now he was in a petty mood. Angus would have to deal with this garish colors for now.

Giving a friendly laugh, a teasing expression rose upon his face. "What's so wrong about being happy over my own personal victory. I try to find happiness in the small stuff... Was that something you didn't want me to guess?" After all, you don't just call someone Sherlock as a compliment. Every time Kon has heard that used directly towards someone, it was an insult. Usually, an insult dictating amateur detective skills.

"And we both frequent the M3C, so we end up talking a lot."
