"Nah, just enjoying my retirement on this island." Meng said with laugh, grinning over at Aivia as he swirled his beer in its can. The sound of it sloshing stuck out compared to the rhythmic rolling of the sea and the bustle of other beach-goers. His voice dropped down a bit as he spoke almost flirtatiously to the girl. "I appreciate you saying I look young enough to be a student there, though." He gave another laugh and a large swig of his beer, draining it before crushing the can in his hand and dropping it into the cooler in the same way as before. He didn't grab up a new beer, though.

Meng shifted in his seat, sliding himself back so he could sit up a little more properly and look over at Aivia without twisting his body so much. "Must've cost an arm and a leg to get to that school, I mean... It's all the way out here on this island, and I had to work my ass off to retire out here." He scratched an irritation on his gut as he spoke, looking out at the sea absentmindedly before looking back to Aivia. More accurately, he looked her over again. A small grin had crept onto his face but his eyes never got that 'dirty old man' glint you'd think they would.

Watching him as she rolled his can around in his hand, Aivia wondered what beer tasted like. Her parents and even friends used to drink it, but she had no interest in it. It smelt bad, so the taste couldn't have been any better, right? As he made a comment on how he thought he was young enough to still be in school, she figured out that no, he wasn't a teacher or an older college student, and was most likely retired or working out of the school area. As he shifted his weight to look more at her, she didn't move. As he made another comment, it seemed that he was indeed retired, which made a bit more sense to her.

She then wondered as to how old exactly he was. Maybe late 40s or even somewhere in his 50s? She didn't want to pry at him, as he had been nice enough to let her sit close to him. As it seemed that he stared at her, moving his eyes up and down, Aivia wondered as to what was so interesting about her. Was it her blue and white striped bikini? Then it hit her like a bolt of lightning. Was he checking her out? Blinking at him, she was a bit surprised that the thought had came to her so quickly. It made sense as to why he was doing it, as she was young and beautiful, but it still creeped her out a bit. Wanting to get the thought out of her mind, she asked a stupid question. "What did you do for a job?"

Meng's mouth opened, as though he was about to answer. Then, he paused. He never really thought of this. He couldn't just up and say what he did for a living. Half of his job was classified and the other half was not something a teenage girl ever needed to hear about. It was something that enough drinks could get him to brag about, and something that drinks were needed to remove the memories of, but meng had seen some shit. He didn't have a fake job lined up, did he? Was it in those notes he didn't bother to read? He cleared his throat and shifted in his chair. "A stressful one." His mind raced, thank god it was so hot out, he was already sweatting. "I was... An executive." Smooth as satin, Meng.

Smiling as it him as he opened his mouth, she tilted her head to the side when nothing came out. Had he forgotten? Or did he not want to tell her. Either way, she batted her eyes and waited until he either said he couldn't or told her. As she sat there in silence, she perked up fast as the guy finally talked to her. She he told her, all she did was smile and nod, as he really hadn't answered her question but at the same time it didn't matter. "That's interesting."

"Yeah... yeah it was..." He didn't believe the lie, and doubted this girl did as well, but Meng had to hold back the urge to wince as memories from Africa, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East tried to resurface. He almost lost his cool, though he did reach for his next beer a little too quickly. He kept his voice under control at least, speaking somewhat casually as he quickly change subjects. "Forget about all that, you won't have to worry about that until after you graduate." Meng pulled the tab on his beer between sentences. "Besides, something tells me you aren't going to go right for the private sector corporate life anyways."

Deciding to learn a bit more about that girl and that academy she went to, Meng pried a bit. "So, you got some kinda special power? Magic? I hear around town everyone up at the Academy has some kinda power, part of the reason they come out here." Meng started to take a drink, not caring if he was too blunt in his questions. As far as Meng was concerned, Aivia probably thought of him as some harmless old guy who she might see around the town, so he doubted she'd mind a little informal forwardness.

Looking at him as he stated which type of job she most likely wouldn't go into, she nodded. She wasn't into that sort of thing, but then again she wasn't sure as to what exactly she was into. Maybe music or something would suit her, because of her power, but she still wasn't sure. Batting her eyes at him as he asked her what type of powers she had, a light smile light across her face. "Healing." She nodded to him, as she wasn't sure exactly how to explain her power, but then again it was hard for anyone to explain theirs to someone else. "Do, do you have any powers?"

Healing? Meng did find that interesting. He didn't know of any beings able to heal being used by any governments or organizations, at least he didn't meet any when he was still working. "Healing, huh? Must be pretty handy." Did he have any powers of his own? Meng chuckled and scratched his chin. "Apart from my almost supernaturally good looks and otherworldly charm?" He leaned back in his chair and crossed his legs. "I've dabbled in magic a bit, learned stuff here and there. Nothing too big yet, just some retirement hobby." He brought his lips to the can and took another drink. Three beers at the beach, not normal for him this early in the day. He'd usually go for a soda at this point. He was barely starting a buzz but it might have just been that memory before, so long as they don't talk about his 'work' too much... Meng pushed that out of his head, pushed out everything but his drink, the sun, the ocean, and this beautiful girl lying next to him on the sand.

She had never thought of her healing abilities to be handy, or even useful. She had rarely ever used them, and her manner of discovering them was quite strange. They never really came in handy, but then again they suited her personality, as she couldn't think of herself to have some overpowered power that would hurt a lot of people. Smiling and laughing a bit, she found the comment tat he had made about himself a bit funny, even though he was most likely trying to be serious. Breathing in and out with little movement, she found it surprising that he man didn't have a power.

She was sure that everyone on the island had a least something to make them unique, but it seemed that there were some people that were in the words of the island, normal. She tilted her head a bit as she leaned close to him. "So you're saying that there are people on this island, with no powers?" She questioned him to see if he knew the answer. She found it weird that there may be other people that weren't as gifted as she was, but that didn't make them lesser to her in any way. "I'm just a bit surprised that you don't poses any powers."

Didn't have any powers? He's a damn wizard now! Meng kept his face happy and contented, taking another sip of his drink and shifting in his seat a bit. "You know the girls around here say I got pretty magical hands." He wiggled his eyebrows at Aivia and continued. "We can swing by my place a little later and I can show you if you want." He gave a rather loud, bawdy laugh and took another drink, shifting in his chair again so he was sitting up a bit more.

"Though... Yes there are people on this island with out powers. I did just say I'm practicing magic, after all." He put his drink down and leaned down, looking for his smokes. He pulled a cigarette out and put it between his lips. "I mean, it doesn't sound all that impressive. but..." Meng snapped his fingers and a single flame like that of a candle popped up from his hand, right next to his thumb, as though he were holding a lighter. A few puffs and he had lit up his smoke and grinned at Aivia again. "...It gets the job done every now and then."

Tilting her head a it at his comment, she wasn't sure as to what exactly he meant. As she thought, she wondered as to why he had only said mentioned that girls... A light went off in her head after a few seconds, and he realized that he was indeed talking about something else. Not wanting to comment, she she kept her head tilted, blinking in his direction. She wasn't going to say yes, and she wasn't going to say no. As it seemed that he indeed it have some type of, she wanted some type of proof. As she thought of that, it seemed that he was pulling out a cigarette. She didn't like smoke, or cigarettes, but the light wind wasn't blowing in her direction, so it wouldn't bother her. As he put it in his mouth, it seemed that he had no lighter, she has he moved his fingers, a spark of fire was created there. "Woah." She said a smile crossed her face. Even though it was minimal, she thought it was pretty cool to be able to do what he did.
