So his counselor suggested another stupid idea to...basically calm his nips; People watching. with all the nervousness in his voice, the counselor thought maybe it was a good idea that Cross should simply observe how people acted in society and perhaps change his ways to better fit in. It was only took two hours to realize what the counselor was hinting at. Rest in peace, desk. It was gone by the time Cross stormed out. He didn't need to calm his jimmies. His jimmies were manly. Nobody needed to mess with his jimmies. Or touch them. Whatever.

Suddenly the next day, he found himself doing exactly what the counselor said; he began to people watch. He took his usual spot at the fountain with a hot cup of noodles in one hand; chopsticks in the other. So far, people watching was boring. They did normal things like...walk around, eat, or talk about stupid things like exams and other boring stuff. Well, maybe something interesting would happen at some point. This was a school for the gifted and fuckin' weird after all. The big man tore the flimsy lid off of the cup and stabbed the chopsticks into the noodles like a professional-stabber and stirred the steamy hot contents inside. His focus was on the noodles now that he took in the delicious smell of high-blood pressure, excited to dig into his .99 cent cup, paying no mind to whomever was walking by.

With a chilly wind blowing over the courtyard, Oliver took a moment to reflect on his first day a few months back. So much had changed, and yet… Well, besides the decay of the leaves that were verdant when he had arrived there wasn’t much about this place that was different. Did he grow a bit taller? Last time he checked, the answer was a resounding no. So physically and environmentally, the state of affairs were that of the usual. But the boy started to get a taste of what he could only call the bitter stew of both life and lost boyhood. He wasn’t the small child he never quite got to be anymore. After a certain turn of events, he had to figure out his place in the world. That, and try to make up for personal mistakes.

With a bit of a hum Oliver felt a bit more lifted than he usually did. Powers classes were going well, and so was his state of mind. Sure, things were eerily different, but change happened. And change could be good. So in attempting to be the opportunist the boy would take this day and those following in stride and with a pep in his step. Good timing for his being here too, another student had slipped and fallen. Before the papers could fly off the klutzy boy scrambled to return them. While his reward was just a muttered thanks, he felt good nonetheless.

Still the boy was a bit winded from the treck from the top floor, and needed to take a load off considering the hefty bag he constantly drug around. He sat rather daintily on the ledge of a fountain, a few feet away from a man who seemed to be enjoying some noodles. His pastime would be thanks to a book he recently checked out. After all, there was nothing more relaxing than deciphering calculus. But as he got to studying, he couldn’t help but to almost physically feel an aura radiating from the guy beside him. He was intense. He was so intense that his intensity was intense. And the meek little boy wasn’t used to something like this. So he looked over, a worried expression on his freckled face. ”Sir? Pardon my intrusion, but are you alright? You seem… Upset.”

Slurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrp!

Holy crap these noodles were delicious! Any normal kid would have been screaming about burnt lips, but Cross ate the noodles up like a man, the burning sensation from the boiling hot meal nothing but a tickle! Beef flavor, the little vegetables in the cup...IT WAS PERFECT! Why didn't he try these before? Of course, he'd have to work on his chopstick skills because right now he didn't know how to break apart the sticks without grinding them into sawdust. That, and--

RIP.

He had been so into his noodles that when he jabbed the sticks back into the cup for more noodles, that he punched a hole straight through the foam bottom, the tasty broth pouring free from the hole. "OH NOOOOOO!" Cross screamed and lifted the cup over his head, letting the remnants of the steaming soup pour into his mouth. He had lost most of it on the ground and getting a taste of that broth made him even more upset. No, pissed off. He had even gotten some soup on his pants which made it look like he was so excited that he literally wet himself trying to eat his lunch. The man grumbled, throwing the chopsticks and attempted to stick his fingers into the ridiculously small cup to get at the noodles trapped inside.

Riiiip. The cup ripped like tissue paper BUT HEY, at least he got the noodles! At this point, he looked like a savage as slurped up the noodles that got caught on his meaty fingers. Then someone started talking to him, wondering why someone like him was so upset over eating noodles. Oh, he was probably growling at the same time. Stupid cup. He stopped mid chomp, looking down at the scrawny kid who decided to sit under his shade, noodles all over his fingers and a piece of fishcake on his face. "...What?!"

His fist full of foam cup came fast and stopped just inches from the boy's face. Those intense eyes watched as he crushed the little cup in his massive fist like the pro cup-crusher that he was. The fist still...lingered and that gaze was still there which if looks could kill, he probably would have burned a hole in the poor kid's skull. Speaking of skulls, his fist was the size of the kid's head! Couldn't really see his face. "Do I look upset now, NERD!?"

He immediately regretted this decision.

Like, immediately.

The second Oliver attempted to inquire about the wellbeing of the tense man was the second he recoiled in horror. Not just because of the fact that steaming hot broth almost hit him. It was because of his increasing vigor in the most menial of tasks. So much so that the poor cup had broken in his hand, and like a starved animal he went about correcting the issue. Oliver watched in a bizarre mixture of fascination and utter dumbfoundedness over this man. Was his mental state alright? Was he a bit… Touched? This almost seemed to answer itself immediately as the man dug his hand in the cup just to get a few noodles out. But hey, Oliver was not one to judge right of the bat. Just because he was effeminate and posh didn’t mean anyone else had to be. Why, he bet he was a really pleasant person! Right?

Any hopes of this were shattered immediately when the man turned and screamed a “WHAT?!” to the boy. He physically jumped, and… Was he shaking? Well, he certainly was now. The man crushed the cup in his hand in front of his face. Oliver could hardly imagine how easily this man could probably make his occipital bone clap together with his frontal one. He looked like a force to be reckoned with, and a meek twelve year old boy was most likely a force to be decimated. And with the almost glassy look in his now watered eyes, it appeared he had already been.

”I-I’m sorry sir I had no idea I-” His voice silenced itself when that ever-familiar insult was hurled at him. Nerd? Well, certainly but... Ouch! Oliver then looked down as a sign of submission, though didn’t back away from the argument. Running away didn’t solve problems, but making peace did. In theory. ”Sir if you don’t mind me saying… you sort of just crushed a cup to render yourself without a meal. I can.. Buy you a new one if you wish. But um… Yeah. Suffice to say you do look tense. Like, really tense.” Oliver looked over this hulking man. Was that a vein bulging from his neck? Probably. it would only prove his point further. ”You’re going to give yourself high blood pressure or an ulcer, as my mother would say.” Well, a salty cup of noodles wouldn’t help with the former either. Following that brave spell though, Oliver's face flushed red. Why was that any of his business?

"I mean... Please don't hurt me."

O-Oh wait...He had made a grave mistake that could possibly damage his reputation. He pulled back the fist of cup.

He was about to make this girl cry.

A-And did he really look that tense? Well, he was pissed off that the flimsy bottom of the cup gave way and he got soup on his crotch. Anyone would be pissed off about that and possibly scream bloody murder because the soup was still hot. He was just mad that it looked like he wet himself, the broth was gone and..well the cup was destroyed. At least he got as much meal out of that as possible. Still, he got so carried away that he scared this girl half to death! At least she had the decency to care about Cross' well-being, but Cross couldn't get ulcers or other things of the sort. Like, if he took up smoking, he would never get cancer. The pros to being a werewolf.

He suddenly backed off, hands up as if the girl was hot to the touch. "Wwwaaah! No it's my fault! D'oooh! I hate making girls cry!" he put a hand to his forehead in despair! No, this would definitely damage his swagg-tastic reputation and it would be another thing that Miss M would hit him for! Wow, he felt so bad now. The girl was kind of...cute in that please be gentle kind of way. "H-How about we forget about this and I buy you lunch?!"

Wait...

Did he honestly think he was a little girl?

For a moment through clouded eyes, Oliver blinked. Rubbing them with the back of his little hand he looked up in honest confusion. Did he really look that androgynous? It wasn't like he didn't dress in feminine attire before. In fact, he usually did when he wasn't where other people he knew or came across often were. But today wasn't that day, at least around the school. Nope, just in his regular uniform-esque attire. The poor guy had it all wrong....

But as he lifted his finger to correct him he decided it would be a lost cause, for now. Maybe he was too angry to really focus on his face. Or Oliver was just so indistinguishable. Either way, it wasn't worth the trouble to tell him otherwise. Besides he really looked upset at him being upset that he was upset. Too much of this and Oliver was going to get an ulcer himself.

”What? Oh no! Sir I'm fine, really... I'm just...” He held his hands up to show he wasn't any harm, before scooting back a bit. This man was HUGE in comparison to him. Almost two and a half feet taller. He didn't need to make him any more anxious. ”I'm just sensitive is all. I was just afraid I made you mad, and I wouldn't want that.” He then scrubbed at his eyes a little bit more, shifting the glasses over them a bit as he smiled. ”I just have... Seasonal allergies, is all.”

The other man out of guilt then offered to take him out. It almost took Oliver by surprise, and of course he wasn't totally keen on the other having to spend money on a total stranger. However.... His stomach was giving him the rumbles. ”Oh I wouldn't want to trouble you with that... It's my fault.” He stated, feeling a bit guilty himself. Since he was hungry though that have him an idea, or at least a way to brighten up the man after having a bad incident. ”I wouldn't mind though splitting the bill. At least let me replace your noodle cup... Terribly sorry about that one.” After all, it did make him look like he wet himself... Hey! A sudden reminder came to his head, as he remembered what was in his big backpack. He turned around to it, unzipped the zipper and pulled out a white towel from his bookbag. He was supposed to visit the school pool today, but the class was canceled. At least he was fortunate enough to have a clean towel on him. ”Here, umm... Will this help?” He asked, as he held it out to the man.

Haha! Keen hunting ears caught the faint rumble of the little girl's stomach. He was right! Food was always a good way for him to make amends to people after he had done something stupid. This was a prime example. "D'oh it's fine!" he waved his hand, "I don't know how to use chopsticks and that's the only thing that came with the cup. Got too excited and punched a hole through it, I guess." The man did take his food seriously. He put food-eating competitors to shame and ran buffets out of business. He was also extremely territorial when it came to his food. Don't be touching his biscuits.

Splitting the bill however...Was she positive she wanted to? "I mean, if you're sure about it, we can split the bill..." It was honestly her wallet's funeral.

Suddenly, he was surprised with a towel! It probably showed on his face too when he was given a towel. No...Way. Oh my god, somebody gave him something that wasn't physical harm! And to make it even better it was from a cute girl! A faint hint of red colored his cheeks as he hesitantly took the towel. "Yeah, thanks..." he began to pat himself down until the wind decided to change directions. All this time his sense of smell was dulled. Now things were about to get a little disturbing. He pressed his face into the towel and-- Wait...

Then he immediately closed the distance between himself and the 'girl' and sniffed much like a dog would when inspecting something 'mysterious'. Wait a minute...

Then his brows furrowed. " Hmmmmgh..." He was close. Really close--Close enough for the 'girl' to smell the broth off of him. Then it hit him; He was asking a boy out on a da--RRRRRRRR! He went to snatch up the BOY by the back of his collar. With his feather weight, it would be so easy to lift him off his feet. "Yer not a girl! You lied to me!! Why do you look like a girl?!!?"

”Oh… Well, as long as you’re okay... ” The shakiness he held was fluctuating, as it always did. He was just a nervous little boy is all. And this man was at least two feet taller than him. That was enough cause for him to be trembling nonstop. Still, this guy seemed pretty appreciative of his offer. what a relief. But that act of his undying sense of people pleasing began to prove itself to be more of a hinderance than a help. For him, anyway, because those warm feelings suddenly turned nearly murderous.

The young boy could sense there was something wrong the moment he began to seriously inspect the towel. The tensions grew even more when he leaned in to sniff him, as if there was something horribly wrong with him. Before Oliver could even open his mouth to question he found himself being snatched up, and a petrified yelp quickly arose from him. He was in big trouble.

”I-I’m sorry! I’m sorry!” He cried out, ducking his face down into his hands out of shame and fear. This guy could easily chuck the boy halfway across campus like some sort of prepubescent football. Just for him to break into hundreds of tiny little pieces so that not even the groundskeeper could sweep him up. He had to think of a reason and he had to think of it fast. ”I-I never said I was or wasn’t s-sir...” Oh God. Delete, delete! he shouldn’t have mentioned that! While it was true, logic wasn’t going to keep him from being crushed by the meaty hands of the zealous man. ”I-I mean, I’m sorry I should have corrected you but… But I mean I don’t really mind either way.. If I’m referred to as a boy or girl.. Honestly...” Now he wasn’t going to out and say he crossdressed. Not now, at least. The man would most certainly laugh at him. Embarrassed, the boy flushed bright red.

”I’m just a late bloomer , like my mother said…” Oliver muttered, brushing some of his light blonde hair from his androgynous face. He hadn’t hit his teen years yet, but even in his pre-teens he should have begun to witness some changes. Nope. He was nearly a thirteen year old boy but almost resembled a 9 year old girl. At least, so he had been told. ”Do I.. Really look that much like a girl?”

He was sorely tempted to crumple the kid up like a paper ball and chuck him as hard as he could. T-to think that Cross, the manliest monster-slayer in the country had almost asked a BOY out on a date?! TO THINK...THAT THIS LITTLE BOY BESTED HIM?! Steam spewed from his flared nostrils as he lifted the boy to eye level...Yes, that intimidating eye level. He was mewling like a cute kitten, crying out his apologies. Apologies weren't good enough, but when he tried to make Cross look even more silly by saying he didn't specify his gender, those giant brows furrowed and he shook the poor kid. Good thing thirteen-year old kids didn't die from shaking them. "WHAT?!" he snarled, ready to let the kid get an earfull before he corrected himself.

And...And as the kid yammered on, that menacing aura Cross carried eventually began to dimminish. The rage on his face began to wan into...a confused state. A...late bloomer? He, what? Cross had gotten to the point where...He just didn't know what to do with the kid. What do you do to someone like this without looking like an asshole? Then the kid made it worse by asking if he really did look like a girl. Cross frowned and shook him again. "NO, I just have allergies!" he barked and set the kid back down. The big man crossed his mighty arms over his manly chest, glaring down at the kid in thought. Idly, he tapped a meaty finger on his solid bicep and grunted. After what was probably a long period of uncomfortable silence, Cross finally spoke. "I'm going to make a man out of you."

Oh dear. This was about to get much, MUCH worse. He could feel his featherweight body be lifted from the ground as this man glared at him hostily. But Oliver didn’t fight back. He would let fate decide as to whether or not he’ll make it out of this one with a face in tact. All this brought up was repressed memories in his old school. Where he was made fun of and bullied for being different. And here? Well, he thought in a school for different people he’d be one to blend into the crowd. But apparently not. At least back then the kids weren’t so jacked up. ”I..I’m… I’m sorry...” His gaze was wide eyed and seemingly dead as he practically shut down to allow this guys to give him the one two. That is, until he began to shake him like a Polaroid picture. An odd sound came from him as he grew dizzy and a bit more responsive, his voice becoming a jumbled mess of incoherence. That was, until Cross finally snapped out of it.

Slowly the shaking stopped. Oliver, now distraught, tried to center his vision again as this man came to his senses. Or… Men. Either way he now saw like five of him. Holding his small hands to his head Oliver rubbed his eyes to try to get himself in focus. Before he shook him again. Great. Luckily the big man put him down before Oliver could lose his lunch. But, by the look of his face, Cross was apologetic. And… determined.

‘I’m going to make a man out of you.’

”P...Pardon?” He slurred out from the trauma before. He didn’t want anything to do with this man at this point, let alone let him teach him life lessons. But there was a bit of ‘sorry’ in his eyes and a want to rectify the issue. Oliver wasn’t necessarily unhappy about who he was, just… He wanted to be one way or the other. A girl. A boy. It didn’t matter. But this question always tied his stomach in knots as he couldn’t quite figure out the answer. Perhaps it would be best to explore a bit. Delve into either side. ”What do you have in mind?” Oliver asked, scooting away from the stranger a bit. Whatever it was, he wasn’t 100% on board. Not even 10%.
