Wei nodded as Hal talked. Everything he was saying was right--he didn't really have a ton of money just in general, despite the fact that the Nices paid him fairly well. He just didn't have a lot. It probably didn't help that he was constantly homesick and always sent letters to China despite the astronomical costs involved.

Plus, soft cupcakes with frosted messages in them? That was adorable. Who wouldn't like that.

At the prospect of Hal helping him, Wei smiled and started bouncing up and down on the floor in excitement. Hal would help him! He would have help this time!

Last time around Wei had done everything more or less on his own, and he was glad he wouldn't have to do everything on his own again this time.

He was bouncing again and Hal could almost feel a small tug in him. Honestly these were the kind of people that made Hal feel like every effort he put into things couldn't go to waste. Hal appreciated Wei, even though he could get in her nerves about 20% of the time.

To even add to that, Hal was feeling a little more motivated to help him out.

"Alright so," Hal casually just pulled a large sketchpad from under his bed and flipped through it until he reached an empty page. "The costs are just gonna be for the recipe--and since I'm already throwing hands in here, I guess... we could split the costs," he said, pulling out the pencil that was clipped on the spring of the pad.

"Erm.. do you want to help out or are you feeling like a kitchen hazard--I mean I could do it on my own but if you're feeling like you wanna help with preparing the dough and stuff..." Hal's voice seemed to trail off, his free hand making a circular motion, trying to get Wei to catch on to what he was "implying".

Wei scooted a little closer to Hal, still bouncing in place. His excitement knew no bounds at the moment. Hell, Hal could suggest they dance in front of the student body dressed as junk food and Wei would have thought it was the best plan ever at that moment. His tail twitched and curled before wrapping around the leg of a nearby chair.

He nodded at the idea of splitting the costs, though Wei was happy to foot the bill himself. buying materials for cooking was always much cheaper than just buying the cooking.

At the question, he nodded vigorously. "Yes! I want to help! I will kneed the dough!" He was quiet before tilting his head and whispering, "do you need to kneed dough for cupcakes?"

After a short pause, he shrugged.

"We could decorate them with rainbows too. Eeeeeeeeverybody likes rainbows."

Hal couldn't stop himself from smiling. As much as he enjoyed cooking by himself, it was nice to have company in the kitchen for a change. As he was thinking, it occurred to him he was starting to think in bulks. "Hm?" He took a couple of seconds before he could answer Wei. "Oh did I say dough? Shit-- I mean to say batter. I think went straight to thinking about baking cookies." Hal clicked his tongue. He kept getting to excited about cooking, he starts mixing things up mid-brainstorming.

...Cookies sounded good to throw into the mix though.

"I could need some help with mixing the batter. It won't be much but since we're making more than just a batch, I think I might need to mutitask with the baking part and preparations and finishing touches." Hal nodded to himself. For a moment his smile flashed into a grin, "Rainbows are gonna need time so I'm definitely going to need your help on that," he added.

He looked up at Wei, his smile still not fading. "Let's make the others covered with frosting and candy stars for variety!" he chirped, clutching his sketchpad close to his chest. For that moment it was like the two were in sync, "Stars and rainbows sound good, right?"

Cookies? The idea of making cookies might have been an even better one than the idea to make cupcakes! After all, cookies were easier to eat on the go, and people felt much better about taking multiple cookies at once, unlike cupcakes. And they were more likely to break them and share with their friends.

Aw, yeah. The more he thought about cookies the more hyper he became. And that was just from the thought of cookies. He shuddered to think what would happen if he actually ate some cookies.

"Oh, yeah yeah! I can definitely make batter!"

At his suggestion of adding candy stars, Wei giggled. "Stars for Starlight Academy."

Hal pumped his fist in the air when Wei confirmed that he could help. A part of Hal was relieved and the other half was only getting started to get really hyped about things. He tried to keep his grin from showing and keeping up his facade by looking down on his notes. "Cupcakes are pretty easy as long as we don't get too distracted." Hal bit at the other end of the pencil as he looked at the clutter of words he'd written on the page. They were mostly just key words and probably wouldn't make sense to other people.

But as soon as Wei's voice chirped in again, he couldn't stop himself from grinning when Wei caught on. "Stars for Starlight Academy!" he echoed, holding his free hand out like a gun at Wei with a click in his tongue.

After realizing his embarrassing display, he looked back down to his notes. "So there's the old tricks, cupcakes......" Hal gazed back up to Wei, a wry smile slowly making its way into his face. "I heard last elections, the cheerleading captain put on a performance... 'Think you wanna compete?"

Wei watched Hal's uncharacteristic display and wanted to swoop in and hug him, rub their cheeks together and proclaim that Hal was basically Wei's favorite person right now. But he knew that his friend could be surly sometimes, so he elected to not do that, no matter how much he really wanted to.

Hearing that the cheer captain (Marina, his mind helpfully filled in) put on a cheer performance. Wei was intrigued. After all, Marina wasn't the only person capable of putting on a good show.

"I could organize something with Dance! I am the president of that club, after all."

For a second there, Hal had a wicked smile on his face after Wei brought up his club. He'd heard about it, of course, thanks to his friend Terrance, and it was just what Hal was expecting for Wei to bring up. The smile quickly melted into his usual calm smile as he looked down to his notes and scribbled up a few more things.

"Perfect!" he said, looking back up at Wei, "We're going to need at least two...kinda like a flash mob... in different locations. One in the cafeteria and another... somewhere else where people crowd around." Hal's gaze went around in thought before he looked back down on his notes. Unconsciously, he puffed up his cheeks while in thought.

"We don't need a lot of people; round up at least four or five people, maybe. It shouldn't be too long for each performance so you have time for a small campaign speech right after. It doesn't need to be too big. How's that?"

Wei thought about where people tended to crowd around. The cafeteria was a given--rarely was it ever actually anything close to empty, except at night when it closed. There was the hallways, but he couldn't take up any of the hallways for a flash mob. The teachers would get upset, and he couldn't handle teachers not approving of his campaign.

"The courtyard or the ballroom," Wei said. "I think more people gather in the courtyard, but the ballroom is better for dancing." IT would be possible to set up a dance in either location.... but he had to concede that whatever the benefits of dancing in the ballroom were, it was just a better idea to dance where more people could see and he had a chance to talk about his campaign.

"Yeah, that sounds like a great idea!" He rubbed his hands together. "I can talk to Sid! I'm sure he can find a few people willing to dance."

"Courtyard probably sounds like the better option," Hal agreed. "I mean yeah, the ballroom would be great but.. I highly doubt a large number of people would be crowding there--I mean the kind who would be interested in hearing a campaign," he explained. Hal wasn't really wrong and he knew Wei would have agreed with this, even though he didn't say it aloud. "We just need to find a clearing--oh and a good sound system so you can be heard, it's easier to call for attention that way."

Hal thought for a moment, "Hey, I know one of the members from your club, I can probably talk him into it," he suggested, tallying up a number back into his notes. "After that, while there's still a hype and the attention is on you, you can sneak in your campaign speech and disperse right after. That's a sure way to get people's attention!" Hal was confident this was gonna work.
