Charlie sighed deeply. He really was a bit daft, wasn't he? "Yes, yes. I didn't mean literally," she called over to him, but the malice had reluctantly been dropped from her voice. The boy was hopeless; there wasn't any point in correcting him.
She watched him impassively as he splashed about in the water, remaining silent. Finally, a bit of peace and quiet. She considered going back up to the school, but it was a Saturday, and there was nothing there for her to do. Besides, the memories around the beach were much less morbid then those surrounding the school.
After a few minutes Daniel walked back towards her, scratching himself as if he had fleas, and Charlie yawned lazily, watching him in her peripherals. "O' course you do! Anyone in their right mind wants to be like me!" She grinned toothily, no warmth in the expression. "Maybe you're not out of your tree, after all." A pause. "Maybe." There was no point in spoiling the boy just because he was dead.
