An Audience fit for a King

When Jude asked about choice the King was quiet. He seemed a little upset. “No I’m afraid not.......normally when a throne is selected the one in question knows what they are doing and perform the ritual willingly. However Aren was...different. A group of devil worshipers killed Aren’s parents and used the child for a sacrifice in hopes to summon a power demon. They instead tied the crimson to Aren. I still do not know how those men learned of the ritual but they payed for the incident in blood. Now Aren is destined for the throne and it cannot be broken. If I could remove it I would and do the ritual properly but that is one thing I am incapable of doing.”

It wasn't fair. Aren hadn't chosen it. He'd been picked by someone else, slotted into a position he didn't want or need.

"Then let me figure it out," Jude said. "Giltenn isn't for show, and if you know us as well as you claim, then you know that much. We'll find a way to reverse it, and undo the connection to Aren. Everyone ends up happy."

More or less.

The Red King was quiet. They were pondering this proposal. “Very well. If you can find a way to undo this binding you can perform it. But I doubt even Giltenn can help you with this. This ritual is an ancient one, one that was created the same time this realm was billions of years ago. You are welcome to try however.”

Of course he was going to try. He'd done more with less. What was the point if he wasn't going to at least try?

"Then I will," Jude said. "I'll figure it out." Or figure out a way to re-seal them. They weren't letting what had almost happened to Rory happen to Aren. The parallels were too clear.

The Red King waved a hand and one of the walls shifted, changing a doorway leading into a large library. “You are welcome to look for answers in the royal study if you wish. It contains many books of the magic of this place. Perhaps that could lead you to the answers you seek?”

Alright, well, hold on. How could the books be there? How could he read things? Were they in a dream or not?

"What is this place, exactly, and how did I get here?" Magic, probably. But magic was a massive, nebulous form with no clear details.

The Red King chuckled at his question. “When I was young and still a throne I named this the red dream as I had originally believe the same thing. This realm is very real however. It lies in its own little corner of existence tucked away from everything to not draw attention. Only two ways to get in or out, either via the Throne where ever they are or via portal into our neighboring realm.”

So it was real. A dimension. A pocket dimension, really, only the scale of it...

Jude frowned, leaning against Giltenn as he tried to... to figure it out. To come to a solution. A way to fix Aren.

I would like you to send us back now, Giltenn thought. They'd been there long enough, and they were wary of being trapped in a realm with no quick and easy way back.

The door to the library suddenly closed and became apart of the wall once more. “Very well. You are free to return to your realm. You may tell Aren whatever you see fit. Just tell him....his old pal red is the one on the throne.” The King waved his hand which would cause Jude and Giltenn to flash back into the normal reality with their hand still on Aren.

Jude was happy to be out. Happy to be back to normal, to have the silver of his left hand back in place. Giltenn was gone, slipped back into their own mental space, and Jude immediately shook out his left hand, getting used to the lack of feeling once more.

"Aren?" He said, unclear on how much he'd heard.
