She had moved close enough that her nose brushed his. It was only partially to be close to him. Another part of her was simply challenging him. She had the habit of doing that.

He'd take the challenge, and throw it out the window. He'd slide closer so his lips were practically touching Eli's, then Mal would slide away as soon she attempt any movement, in hopes to frustrate her a bit.

Eli tried to kiss him when he pulled away. She glowered.
"You know what I'm talking about," she said in a low, fuming whisper.
She thought to scoot away from him, but she didn't. Instead, Eli followed him, trying to push herself against his side.
She was frustrated yes, but she liked it that he frustrated her. Not many people challenged her back.

He'd lean towards her again, pressing his nose to hers, this time if she moved in for the kiss he'd quickly turn his head away so she'd kiss him on the cheek.

Her lips did indeed settle on his cheek. He might hear her give an irked little sigh.
"Mal...I am going to give you the worst fuckin' case of blue balls."
Sometime during their interaction, their food had been delivered. Probably for the best that the waitress said nothing. Less awkward for everyone.

She'd turn and scoot back to her seat, where her food was. Should she address this secret? Probably better not to push him, right? Eli was an impatient person by nature. Debating time...
