Laughing, Zora bent forward and kissed him lightly on the lips. "Don't apologize silly... Just rest up, and get better," she said as she squeezed his hand and then let Jude show him the video of Frederick being hauled away by the police.

"More like you two won," Zora said with a chuckle, glad that Broen seemed .. happy, not just happy because he was on serious painkillers, but because the burden he had been carrying was now gone now that he had had his moment of vindication thanks to Jude's help.

"By the way, when you get out tomorrow, I'd like you to come home with me until you are better, then you can decide whether you want to return to the dorm or not," Zora told him evenly, not really willing to take no for an answer.

"Broen did it," Jude said, quick to shift the credit away. "I was just trying to mediate, and then he.... well, he saw what had to do, and he went for it."

Jude wasn't sure there was another way to beat Frederick. Or at least not a way that didn't end up with one of them dead.

"They cleared me to go home, at least, but they said they wanted to keep you overnight. You're going to match big Angelo with those scars, though."

Should he ask about sending the picture? Maybe later.

"I'll let the others know. Do you want me to give anyone else a heads up?"

"Ugh don't remind me. I don't wanna think about how fucked my face is." It was a little easier to speak now, though Broen still couldn't laugh properly.

"Actually," he said after a minute of thinking. "Show me. I wanna see. Gotta... take stock of what the fuck I'm dealing with."

He pulled the right side of his mouth up in the closest approximation of s grin he could manage to Zora. "Shitty personality and no more good looks. No money either. I'm just slowly chipping away at all the stuff you like, huh?" He was kidding, obviously. But lightening the mood was important to him.

Zora just rolled her eyes at this, called him a dork and told Broen if he kept it up she was trading him in for a refund, all in jest of course. She knew he was just joking around, trying to lighten or keep up the good mood.

Digging in her handbag, she found a compact with a mirror at the bottom of her bag. Taking it out, she opened it, dusted off the powder on the mirror and passed it to Broen so he could take a look. She honestly didn't think he should be worrying about such a thing at the moment, but she knew if she said no, or tried to dissuade him, it would only make him more curious.

Broen took the mirror as best he could in his hand, which consequently was also bruised and scratched. Probably when he hit the table. Looking himself over, he turned his head a little to each side, trying and failing to get a good look at his left side. No luck.

"Holy shit... old fucker doesn't know how to throw a goddamn punch. If I'd been on him, he wouldn't even have a fuckin face."

For all the seriousness of the situation, Jude couldn't stop himself from cracking up at Broen's comment.

"He's only ever fought in a suit, and he's never fought to kill. Of course he doesn't know how to really cause damage. If he was smart, he'd have just strangled you--I don't have the body weight to properly get him off of you. And if I'd been smart I'd remember that I could literally have pulled a gun from thin air and forced him off you."

But there were downsides to that. Downsides like making things messy. The story was clear as it stood and lined up with injuries. If Jude had pulled a gun, things would have been a lot more complicated.

"I tried going for my gun, but he had my jacket pinned. I'm just glad it didn't go off in the holster. Getting shot on top of having my face pulverized would have made this a significantly shittier day."

Broen let out another series of sharp exhales and relaxed back onto his pillow. "So what now? I'm stuck here for the night. I really hope it's not all fuckin weekend."

"You had a gun on you? For the love of gods," Zora remarked in surprise, slightly shocked by this admission. She hadn't thought or considered the possibility, especially after both of them had distinctly cautioned her about taking a firearm with her when she went to visit Frederick.

"You two are so lucky..." she muttered with a shake of her head, taking the compact from Broen, snapping it shut and dropping it in her purse.

"What now? Well, I suggest probably resting up, and if you want, we, or I," she said, suddenly realising Jude might have to go home or want to go home at some point, "I can bring you back some food, or something to keep you entertained?" she suggested.

"You realize the real torture is yet to come, Broen... They're going to make you eat hospital food," he said with a note of mock seriousness, shaking his head as he did.

But then Zora mentioned the guns, and he glanced over, offering a shrug.

"I assume you've just been carrying since Frederick showed up?" That made sense to him. He was too paranoid to just not have a weapon, and Jude had been raised with a healthy respect for guns.

"I've been carrying a piece since I arrived on the island. I'm always strapped if I can help it," Broen admitted. He was actually a little surprised that Zora herself didn't know this. He couldn't hide his slight frown even if he'd wanted to.

Pointing at Jude clumsily with his hand, he shook his head slightly. He tried to grin, to go along with the joke. But he was a little concerned about the revelation that Zora didn't realize he just casually carried a gun. "Nah nigga. Y'all're gonna get me some real fuckin' food. I'll even take goddamn McDonald's before I eat hospital shit."
