Silence. That's what it was, complete silence. And the only noise was the occasional call of an animal, or a small burst of wind cutting through the bare trees. That's why she loved the forest, it was almost completely silent. Using her tennis shoe-encased foot, she scraped some dirt off of a rather large rock and plopped down, pulling her skirt over her knees.

She leaned her head on the heel of her hands, trying to decide how she would spend the remainder of the afternoon. Maybe she'd play a trick on the headmaster — she hadn't done that in a long time. It'd have to be really good though, because there was no sense wasting a perfectly good afternoon on something stupid. Especially since she might get in trouble for it.

She closed her eyes and silently started planning. It was something that she was good at.

He loved going for walks in the winter. It was always so peaceful, always just so... amazing. The trees were lifeless, in a good sort of way, and silence was good. Sabriel embraced silence, since it was a rarity that he ever got any of it. His hands were stuffed into the furry pockets of his long coat with his eyes turned downward to look at the ground.

"Well look what we've got here."

Sabriel's eye twitched as the voice began speaking. He lifted his head, looking around. As he saw Connor, a grin spread on his face and he was about to run and hug her from behind, but he decided against it. She was always one for tricks, and though he wasn't very good at mischief and didn't like it very much, he supposed he could do something small.

Making sure to be silent, the fifteen-year-old walked closer to where she was sitting on the rock. As soon as he was behind her, he moved his tail in front of him and poked her in the back with it.

"Rawr...?" He had been aiming to say it simply, but it wound up coming out more like a question. So he pretty much sucked at trying to be sneaky. Oh, well.

As a general rule. it is not nice to sneak up on people when they are plotting, especially when that person is a prankster to begin with. When something poked her in the back, Connor shrieked. But at the "rawr", she realized it was Sabriel, and she laughed.

"Oh, hello, Sabe!" She said, moving over on the rock a little ways so that he could sit down too, if he wanted. "How are you today?" He was one of the very few people that she didn't mind talking to. He himself wasn't terribly talkative, so it was alright.

Sabriel bit his lip when she shrieked; woops. He hadn't meant to really scare her. No wonder he didn't like playing pranks... someone always got scared or hurt. "Sorry Connor," he said meekly, offering a shy smile.

"Oh, hello, Sabe!"

Of course she wouldn't be mad. Sabriel sat down next to her on the rock, the shy smile becoming a grin. "Hey, Connor," he said. As she asked how he was, he shrugged his shoulders. "I'm fine, and yourself?" He really wasn't a chatty thing. Conversation most certainly wasn't his forte, though he could handle it on most occasions. Even so, he liked hanging out with Connor; she was really one of his first friends at this place.

"It's alright," Connor assured him. She really didn't mind, it served her right for being so lost in thought in the forest. She made a mental note to be more careful in the future.

"I'm alright. I'm going to do something to the headmaster. I don't know what yet, but it'll be good. Want to help?" She offered, her eyes shining brightly. Her mischievious personality made her seem much younger than her sixteen years, but she'd been sort of repressed as a child or something...it probably had something to do with the fact that she'd accidentally killed her parents.

At least he was forgiven. Sabriel was glad to hear this, and that she was all right. However, he was a bit hesitant when she began to say she was planning something to do to the headmaster. Connor was always good at planning; it was what she was known for. Some times, he wondered why he even got involved with her. She was trouble, disaster, and he would probably end up going down with her one day. Oh well, that's what friends were for.

".... Want to help?"

Uh oh. Sabriel bit his lip, wondering. Helping would get him in deep trouble, not to mention he didn't like playing tricks and he wasn't even good at it. "Me, of all people?" he asked with a crooked smile. It almost seemed silly for Connor to have asked that. "You know I'm not very good at being sneaky... or plotting... or... stuff..." Awkward, much?
