A Walk in the Park

Catalina walked the park and looked over the greenery and the people playing outside. It gave her a distant kind of joy. She liked the wildlife and how close to the forest this place felt. In the city, this was one of her relaxation points. She very much enough watching people, learning their weaknesses and what, in general, made people tick.

Humans had been interesting, but very fragile creatures. Here, though, there was much magic to explore. Underhill had contained many different fae, but this place had creatures she had never seen in all her years. So many things to learn, explore and prod. The thought gave her real excitement and she found herself grinning.

What things could be exploited here? Examined and scrutinized. Broken apart until they no longer resembled what they once had? Would one of those things be here? Even that made a jolt of excitement flutter her breast.

Catalina let out a content sigh and sat in the grass, taking in the touch of the wild. She fell back and let her arms spread, feeling as much of the greenery on her skin as she could. The prickling, tingling sensation made her smile grow.

Catalina's eyes slid to the man beside her as she inspected him.

"It is a beautiful park," she corrected. "The day I care nothing for. It is the green I enjoy." She paused as she thought about something, then nodded to herself. "Sunshine or rain are always welcome to me."

She went back to watching him, her stare intense. Catalina sat up slowly.

"Who are you?" she asked unceremoniously.

"Catalina Embers," Catalina said with pride. She turned her attention from him back to the sky. "I'll call you Zach, much easier to remember."

She closed her eyes and breathed in the fresh air. "Cities, so necessary for networking but terrible for the lungs and the heart. Would you not agree?"

Catalina rose a neat eyebrow. "You have lived here all your life? I take it you know this island well, then?"

She turned her gaze on him again. The look she wore now was much gentler than before. "You have piqued my interest, Zach. Why don't you tell me a little more about yourself?"

"Hardly a fair trade. That was barely any "telling" about you," Catalina said. "My name is Catalina Embers, I am a Fae of the Unseelie court, and I have newly arrived here in the hopes for a new life. I am very old, and I own a spa. See, that is how one tells about oneself."

She returned his smile. "You try again."
