A Walk in the Park

"I have no reason to care or not care about the human race. They are amusing distractions, but they have never done anything particularly useful for me. What good have they done you? Humans take new things, and they experiment and prod them until they can change them. They think they're apex predators and the moment they realize they may not be, they become fearful and strike out at whatever is closest. That is what humans are like."

"What passion you have for the people who ruined you. How many humans have you met, I dare ask? Have you met lifetimes worth? Have you studied and watched them almost since the dawn of time? I think not."

Catalina's voice was cool, but not yet chilly. Truth tell, Catalina had no opinion on humans. They had never hindered or helped her in any significant way, and she wasn't envious of anything about them as a whole. Even if she wanted to care and see this boys point, she wouldn't have known where to begin.

While Zach had been human before, and could consider himself human now, Catalina had never had a bit of said humanity in her. She had been fae born and bred. The closest she got was marrying a human and bearing half fae children. Still, half fae children where either like the fae or like humans, they didn't tend to be a mix of both. Not in Catalin's experience.

She shrugged. She couldn't battle willful ignorance. It was cruel of her, really, to poke such sensitive areas, but Catalina wasn't opposed to being cruel.

"Fine, fine. Have it your way. But don't go around acting like humans need your protection, they protect themselves might well enough, I'd say." Despite that this may be taken as a compliment to some, Catalina said it with the hard edge of an insult.

"That a threat? How cute." Catalina scoffed.

"'Likely will gut me like a fish'?" Catalina repeated, her smile thin. She stood and stretched her arms over her head. "Maybe," she agreed. "Then again, maybe not. You don't live this long without learning how to protect yourself, especially not when you have a smart mouth."

She watched him impassively, seeming to debate something internally. "I have to get back to work. I suppose, if I were to spend my off-time talking to a human, it was nice that it was you. I think I came out of this with more questions than answers, though. I'm interested."

The last sentence was spoken like a threat, her voice low and her eyes impish.
