Getting Bison shipped to the island in a timely manner, on the other hand, certainly was. Travel to and from the island could be an adventure at the best of times, and consistent shipping could not be counted on. In the majority of cases, whatever you ordered would arrive, but it wouldn't be unusual for it to arrive weeks or even months late.

A bison that had been sitting frozen for that long would not due, so he waited until the island was having a proper, time sensitive shipment, and then ensured the meat was brought aboard. The moment it was on the ship, he sent out a nicely worded letter to Lelei, and settled in to wait.

Ignatius did not do things by halves. The chef had prepared a proper meal to go with it, mixing seafood in with red meat. Almost all the dishes were primarily meat based, with only bits of other things. Ignatius was a carnivore no matter what form he happened to be in, and the idea of sitting down and having a salad didn't work for him.

He was dressed in a proper suit, similar to the one he'd worn at the policemen's ball, and yet still noticeably different. He had a whole selection, and this time he'd picked out a blue tie.

He settled into his lounge, waiting for the staff to come and inform him that Lelei had arrived.

RE: A Taste of Bison [Crit]

Lelei was quite excited to find that he had received an actual letter from someone in his mail, and not some kind of bill or advertisement in an envelope. Electronic correspondence was nice, convenient and fast; but he had never received an honest-to-God personal letter before. It was a whole new experience for him to carefully tear it open and read the message inside.

Finding out that the letter was from his new acquaintance Ignatius was pleasing. Finding out that the letter was an invitation to his house so that they could partake in the bison they had previously discussed was exciting. Lelei was quick to accept the invitation.

Later on, standing at the front door of a large, aged manor house apart from the rest of the homes on the island, Lelei kept reminding himself to be a little more in control of himself this time around.

As he straightened out his good, comfortable clothes, Lelei kept thinking back to how he had acted at the police charity event. Back then, he had been something of a tipsy mess. The open bar had been readily taken advantage of by him while he got to know Ignatius, and he remembered saying a thing or two that might have been over the line. This time he hoped to keep his composure and not try and be too overt about the alpha "bond" he felt with Ignatius.

They were more personal. They were more formal as well. Ignatius liked being formal. He liked the way it all sounded, when you formally invited someone. He liked his formal greetings for an event like this.

So when one of the staff arrived to let him know that Lelei had arrived, he made his way to the front door, all formal politeness. He found Lelei in the hallway, a grand and ornate thing, but had no intentions of them lingering in the house for much longer. He was all smiles, too many teeth giving him a predatory edge as he gestured into the house.

"Welcome to the manor. I hope I didn't leave you waiting too long. I had trouble getting the meat here in a timely manner. You don't want it frozen too long, or it'll ruin the point of bringing it in at all." He started to walk, presuming Lelei would follow him as he trailed him down a long hallway, guiding him around a corner and then out onto a patio.

To say the backyard was rich was not giving it enough credit. The stone deck extended out far enough to give plenty of room, with a fine table set out, already prepared for them. After a step down, it split into two paths, one wandering out onto the well taken care of grounds, and the other making it's way over to a large pool, easily the side of an olympic swimming pool, although not so uniform in shape. Trees dotted the grounds, and Ignatius settled himself in on a deck chair looking out over the pool and grounds, not sitting at the table just yet.

"Take a seat. It's just the two of us for the night." His parents were out, off on some vacation or another. They did a better job of passing as human than he ever did, and the luxury of off-island vacations remained open to them.

RE: A Taste of Bison [Crit]

Being greeted at the door by a staffperson, and not Ignatius himself, was a minor surprise for Lelei. Although their presence seemed obvious in the context of vast wealth and power, Lelei had never encountered a home large enough to warrant staffing. More than the size of the house itself, having multiple staffers really spoke to how much money Ignatius had to throw around.

Ignatius' own approach once inside was also a surprise, as Lelei's attention was occupied with ogling the vast and fancy-looking entrance way.

"Ignatius! It's an honor to be in your home."

The mood of the manor compelled Lelei to give the man a small bow.

"Don't worry. For good meat, I can be patient."

Ignatius would no doubt hear the whispered "wow" coming from Lelei once they had exited into the backyard. Lelei would have called it a backfield though, because of how expansive and beautiful it all was. His appreciation for actual LANDscaping might not have been very mature, considering that he was familiar with undersea scapes, but even Lelei had to admire how everything looked.

Lelei found himself liking the stone deck the most, and how it contrasted nicely with the manicured lawn and the large pool. It felt strong and commanding, like the two of them. After the rush of the city, Ignatius' backyard felt extremely calming and serene. Yet, it was all under the watch of Ignatius and Lelei, as if it were their own personal domain.

"Your home is lovely, by the way. Especially this backyard you got here."

Lelei took the deck chair next to Ignatius. Looking back at the dinner table set for the two of them, he was struck with a momentary sense of something. A table set for two on a lovely night? It almost felt like a date.

"So this is all yours, huh? Man, this is sooo much different from my cozy little apartment in the city. I like my place, but it doesn't have this view. And this is all private?"

He'd always been one for handshakes, although he'd forgone on in this case. This wasn't business. This was simply him sharing the chance to taste a rare meat with someone else who would appreciate it.

He wasn't going to give him the full tour. He almost never wanted to give anyone the full tour. It took too long, and he'd done it too many times growing up. If someone cared enough and he had a reason to, he would have a servant do it, but he had absolutely no interest in touring someone through the overly large family house.

"Not all mine. It's the family estate. It was my fathers before me, and my grandfather's before him. My parents still live here when they're not off seeing the world, although for the most part I have the run of it." It was his house - his parents just happened to live there. Whoever was the head of the family was the head of the house, after all. He still had members of the family come to visit, but he was the only true resident.

"I thought you'd appreciate a pool view." The dining room was meant more for large gatherings, and it would look silly to have the two of them at such a large table. The table in the backyard was large, but still reasonable. "The pool doesn't get much use, unfortunately. I can't say I have much time for it." It was a high end salt water pool - still chlorinated, but less likely to burn your eyes if you opened them underwater.

"The chefs already started cooking. It takes some time to prepare, so I started before you arrived. It should be ready soon."

RE: A Taste of Bison [Crit]

If Lelei had eyebrows, one of them would have been raised slightly at Ignatius' clarification regarding the estate. Lelei would have never pinned Ignatius as the kind of man that still had his parents around the house. Now he seemed to make it clear that they were living with him, and not the other way around. Still, the momentary implication had put Ignatius in a somewhat off-character light that Lelei found amusing for a few moments.

Leaning back in his deck chair, Lelei put his eyes back on the pool in front of them. The water looked beautiful in the kind of way only a high-end pool, or perfect lagoon, could look. His nose picked up hints of salt wafting off the water, and he became even more intrigued by it.

"It reminds me of the ocean in a way no other pool has."

Lelei turned to Ignatius, smirking.

"Maybe after the meal we could take a dip in it? Nothing that'll make you cramp up. Just hang out in the shallow end. Maybe a few drinks too."

Speaking of which, Lelei wondered if he could... order(?) a drink from the staff. He wanted to raise a hand or something, but that seemed uncouth and rude. Otherwise, he really had no idea how to signal that he could go for a relaxing drink.

"Um... So... Would you mind if I, uh, ordered a drink or something? I don't know how this live-in staff thing works..."

That included his parents, and he would certainly take care of them... presuming they weren't in his way. He had gained his position by essentially throwing his father out of the position he'd created for himself.

"A salt system makes for less harsh water. It's certainly not as natural as the ocean, but the ocean also isn't terribly healthy for things not meant to be in it." Things like him. He doubted Lelei was even capable of getting ill from the sort of bacteria that made people chlorinate their pools.

"That was the plan, more or less." And by less, he meant the swimming. "You're free to swim - I prefer to relax. I'm far from a strong swimmer." His size and general density made swimming a tad more challenging than the average human, and the whole thing felt awkward. T-rex's could swim, but not very well. They weren't intended to go swimming for long periods of time. Nothing more than a doggy paddle across the mouth of a river.

He let out a laugh at Lelei's sudden awkwardness, and made a quick beckoning gesture with one hand. An older man appeared in one of the doorways, heading over to Ignatius's side. "Some whiskey for me, and get Lelei whatever he'd like." The man turned to Lelei immediately, waiting for whatever he happened to order.

"We're well stocked." Ignatius reassured Lelei. There were very few things he wouldn't have.

RE: A Taste of Bison [Crit]

"A salt water pool? I've never seen one of those before."

Just from the way Ignatius described it, Lelei assumed that a salt-based system for a pool was a rich person kind of thing. Thus explaining why he had never encountered one before meeting his wealthy dinosaur associate. From what he knew and had heard about people with money, Lelei assumed that they were able to afford things that were generally better in every respect. And a less-harsh pool sounded better than a regular one.

Lelei was also excited to hear that Ignatius had also intended on going for a little dip after dinner. Even if he seemed less eager than Lelei.

"Ah. It's fine! We're not actually gonna be swimming. We'll just be relaxing in the water together."

Relief washed over Lelei as Ignatius took the lead with ordering a drink from his staff. Maybe it was the idea that these people worked in the house, and thus was technically grouped with "family" in Lelei's head, that threw him off. Even when the staffer approached Lelei, he felt a little awkward.

"Um. A whiskey for me too. No ice. In a bigger glass than usual. Er, I dunno. How big are the glasses Ignatius' usually gets?"

Much like with so many other things, a salt water pool was cheaper to upkeep over time, but had a much higher upfront cost.

He found himself feeling some amusement watching Lelei stumble through ordering. There was really no question that Lelei hadn't grown up in the kind of life that Ignatius had. The servant gestured with his hand, indicating a small glass.

"Get him one the same size as me." Ignatius cut in, and the servant hurried off to make the drinks, leaving the two of them alone again. "They'll top up your drink until you say not to, so glass size doesn't matter much." He reassured him. There was no point in worrying over small details. The point was to relax. The staff could certainly adapt.

RE: A Taste of Bison [Crit]

There was an almost audible sigh of relief from Lelei when Ignatius cut in to clarify exactly what Lelei was trying to convey. As if it were not obvious enough that Lelei was completely unfamiliar with talking to a house staffer. He gave Ignatius a thankful smile before leaning back in his deck chair and relaxing. Together, the two large enjoyed the quiet of the backyard and the peacefulness of the view before them.

Having spent most of his time in the city proper, Lelei had long grown accustomed to the persistent buzz of the city itself. Life went on at all hours of the day, and the structures of buildings allowed it all to echo everywhere. Sometimes he managed to escape it by swimming. But he had rarely found a place on land that could give him the same reprieve from the energy of Manta Carlos.

"It must be nice having this nice little private area to yourself. It's all private, right? No neighbors watching you back here?"

Lelei loved the idea of having a place out of doors that was completely private and free from any watching eyes, accidental or otherwise. If Lelei had a place like that, he would do the obvious: spend some of his time outdoors in the buff, just as he might do in his native kingdom under the sea.

"And the house is awesome too. But, if you don't mind me being so inquisitive, what do you with a place this big? This seems like more room than I would know what to do with."
