In what felt like no time, five minutes had passed, probably more. With that, the last stride of hope had left him and Carmin was ready to give up.

A defeated sigh escaped him along with his last ounce of hope. Following this were three rather depressing statements “I give up. It’s no use. We can go home now.”

That was right. He was stuck like that forever and any attempt of fighting it was completely pointless. He felt stupid for even considering a cure to be possible at this point. Now he just wanted to get home so he could cry into a pillow or something without anyone around to see it.

No two ways about it: The whole thing was sad. And not in the sad like 'that's so pathetic' way, but sad in the actually genuinely sad way.

He guessed home was the dorms (a safe bet for almost everyone) and started to head that way, his brain turning over the information he'd gathered. He was looking for... a cure, he guessed. He couldn't be sure, but that certainly did lead to some conclusions.

Not conclusion's that he'd voice, of course, but ones he'd hint at just in case.

"...Do you want to talk about it?" Angelo said.

Carmin was too busy being a downer in his own head to realize that he'd never told Angelo where he lived. After having told him they could go home and then watching him head towards the dorms, Carmin basically assumed he had.

He was basically just lying there quietly in a gloomy trance until Angelo spoke up. When he did, Carmin's eyes opened a little wider and shifted up to try and see him better. Then he spoke in a rather ashamed tone. "Don't worry about it... I lied to you. I'm not sick. The flower was just to make me normal again." Carmin looked away when he finished talking.

Oh. Well, truth be told, that had kind of been what Angelo was expecting. It was Manta Carlos, after all. Manta Carlos and he was... some kind of plant person. Not exactly a species with a long and storied history the way a lot of others had.

Just... plant.

Plant person.

"I guess you were human originally?" Angelo guessed. If his original species was non-sapient plant he doubted that Carmin would be so eager to fix things.

Carmin more or less expected an awkward silence until they reached his dorm room. He certainly didn't expect Angelo to take it as lightly as he did. It was a good surprise though, well mostly.

Now he was faced with Angelo figuring out that he used to be human, and given the circumstances, Carmin felt it was unfit to lie about the matter here. "Yeah, up until I was twelve."
This was sort of a secret to Carmin but he felt he could trust Angelo to enough of a degree that it was fine to admit it.

Twelve. Truth be told, that was older than Angelo thought. He was still under the impression that Carmin was maybe fourteen, but considering the island, he'd also just assumed Carmin was changed only recently.

"I... can kind of relate," Angelo admitted. He couldn't exactly show off, but the silver on his face was obvious. "The transition to fully human to something that couldn't really pass in the narrow reality is pretty difficult, even if I'm not on the level you are. Have you... talked to anyone about it?"

Angelo had talked to a lot of people. The fact that he'd ended up more or less locked up because of it hadn't helped, either.

Was Angelo no longer human? It seemed kind of possible in Carmin's head. There was the arm and those markings on his face. Did that mean he was a cyborg? Carmin was kind of curious about it, but decided not to ask.

When it came to talking about his problems, that was typically a topic Carmin avoided. It was just much easier to bury that stuff than to acknowledge it. But he was trying to be honest with Angelo so he opened up a little. "Um, well the scouts talked about it when they rescued me." After that, he just sort of went on acting like he'd always been that way. It was just easier that way.

"Well, I was thinking more like a therapist," Angelo said, being very careful with his words. "I know a lot of people think it's a bad thing, but therapists help a lot, especially in cases like this. I guess it's fair to say that people generally aren't prepared to deal with supernatural stuff like this, but it's not as if you're alone in that."

A lot of people on the island had cases like Carmins. Cases where they'd been changed, generally against their will, into something... else.

"It might help to know that other people are going through the same thing. Feeling alone... it kind of eats at you, you know?"

"A therapist?" Carmin didn't sound overly interested in that suggestion, but as Angelo continued speaking, it didn't sound like such an outrageous idea after all. He began to realize that maybe Angelo understood his situation a little better than he'd originally suspected.

Hearing his next part about the lonely feeling that eats you hit a little too close to home. Typically Carmin tried to deny stuff like that getting to him, but Angelo just seemed to get it a little too right. He stayed quiet for a few seconds before responding. "Mhm..."

Trying to pretend everything was fine was clearly not working out, and it didn't look like he was going to be changing back to normal anytime soon, so perhaps Angelo was right. It was time to try something new. "I'll look into getting a therapist I guess."

"A therapist," Angelo confirmed. He'd had one himself, and it had... well, it had helped a lot, to say the least. It had been a game-changer. Helping him figure out how to handle things in a healthy manner was... a big change.

"They've got a nice list over at the school," Angelo said with a shrug. "They can point you to someone good. I know there's a lot of stigma, but... it's helpful. If your leg was broken, you'd go to the doctor for help, right?"

He could see the edge of campus approaching, and Angelo shifted, angling himself towards the middle school dorms as he walked.
