As Carmin was picked up, his entire face would turn a lighter green. The whole situation was just plain shameful as far as he was concerned. He couldn't really move or do much at all as Angelo picked him up, then shifted around and picked him up differently. But when all was said and done, the view he got was actually pretty good. Angelo was also somehow managing to shine the flashlight on him while carrying him, which was pretty impressive.

As Angelo explained his ability, Carmin's eyes fixated on his arm. Specifically the robotic one. Had that always been there? He figured he would've remembered something like that. He tried to think about it but had little luck remembering it. It was only as Angelo told him he'd take him wherever he wanted that Carmin realized he was staring and turned his eyes toward the front of them instead.

"Oh-kay. I know the flower is somewhere in the woods, just I don't know exactly where in the woods..." Having been to those woods in the past, Carmin was well aware of how little that helped. He was also aware of how easily one could get lost in those woods. "I don't know how you are with directions, but it might also be a good idea to do something to make sure we don't get lost."

Oh, well then. Truth be told, Angelo had mostly already given up on the possibility of finding that flower. The woods was a big place, and Angelo? Angelo didn't have a lot of faith they'd find it. It was like looking for a needle in a haystack, only it was trying to find a needle in an entire farm covered in hey.

Angelo started to walk, mostly just wandering wherever the hell he felt like. He followed game trails, mostly, figuring it wouldn't be visible from any actual groomed path.

"Don't worry about that," Angelo said. "I've got a normal compass, and a compass that will guide us directly back to the city." The Compass of First Frost, a gift from the Twelve, and something Angelo hadn't truly found much use for.

"I guess you were just planning to circle around until you found it?" Angelo asked as he walked, genuinely curious.

"Oh, a compass," Carmin had never thought about using one of those before. He felt kind of stupid for never having thought about it. He still didn't totally understand his phone but he knew there was a button on there for compass that might've worked too. "That's a good idea."

When asked if he was just planning to go in circles, he felt extra stupid for not having had a sound plan for that. Especially after the first time he went in there and got lost. His face lit up light green again, a state which it was only recently returning to normal from. He spoke in a very defensive tone as if he was offended that Angelo would even suggest that. Even though it was kind of true. "N-no..." He quickly scanned his head for any sort of plan he could've had, hoping to make himself not come across as a total idiot. "I was going to... um, I was going to go back and forth through the forest in a zig zag and leave rocks behind where I'd been." Where was he going to get this large stock of rocks? Well, Carmin didn't exactly come up with that part yet.

Angelo didn't really consider it a good idea, but that was mostly because it wasn't really an idea. More of a power.

"When you say it only blooms today, what do you mean?" Angelo asked, completely oblivious to the constant changing of Carmin's face. It didn't really occur to him that he was looking at a blush. He was just way too used to people going red, after all. "Like, one time only? Full moon only? Once a year?"

He really didn't think they were going to find it, but that didn't stop him from from walking anyway. He didn't seem to be paying all that much attention to his surroundings, but that was because he had walked this area not too long ago: he knew it by heart.

"Once every five years," Carmin kind of rushed this whole thing but he was fairly certain he had the details of the flower right. "I'm pretty sure it just blooms for the whole day then it dies or something and only blooms again in five more years." That was right, even if they didn't find it tonight, there would still be another chance five years from now. Of course five years was a really long time and it would be nice to get home before he reached his twenties.

He kept his eyes scanning the ground for potential blue flowers, though he couldn't see to far ahead with how dark it was. Come to think of it, he didn't know how much time he had left to eat the flower. "Do you have the time?" He wasn't sure how long he'd been on the ground, but they had to be cutting it close now.

Okay. Five years wasn't awful (it wasn't never, for one), but it wasn't exactly good, either. Five years was a long time. Five years was... five years ago he hadn't even met any of the team. Five years ago he hadn't even pulled on a mask. He was a fundamentally different person five years ago, still a perfectly ordinary human with nothing strange about him.

So to say the least, he understood. Five years was a long time.

"Eleven-forty-five," he guessed, then double checked, balancing retrieving his phone with keeping Carmin from falling. "Thirty-four," he corrected.

"If I'm being honest... I don't think you're going to find it. The island's gigantic, and the odds of you stumbling upon it aren't very good. But I'm still willing to keep searching until the sun comes up if you want."

He could at least do that much.

"twenty six minutes then, until it's supposed to be too late..." That didn't exactly give them much time, the forest was really large and as far as he knew this flower was fairly small. It seemed that he wasn't the only one who thought that either.

He wanted Angelo to assure him that they'd have no problem finding that thing, to tell him that he had some ridiculous ability to help him locate anything he wanted. But the honesty was still appreciated. If he really did think they could find the flower and then they didn't, that would be soul crushing.

The fact that Angelo was willing to help him like this also caused a little guilt. It was one thing to agree to carry someone into the woods for a while, but all night? And meanwhile he was sitting there just kind of deceiving him. "Th-thank you for, um, this. I appreciate it." He felt the urge to nervously rub his arm or the back of his head or something, but wasn't really able to do that right now.

Twenty-six minutes was nothing. He'd prepared himself to be there all night, but if it was just twenty-six minutes? Easy.

Angelo wasn't quite an optimist, even if he often appeared that way at first glance. No, he was a realist. He expected what was most likely to happen and then let the cards fall as they may. He wasn't expecting to find it, but that wasn't going to stop him from trying.

But twenty-six (or was it twenty-seven?) minutes later, it was time to give in.

"Sorry," Angelo said, stopping to shift Carmin's weight on his back. "But I think you're out of luck for this year."

No point beating around the bush. It would be upsetting, but better than trying to keep it going for longer than necessary. "Where do you want me to drop you?" He asked. "The school?"

After some time had passed, Carmin began to worry. He couldn't check the time himself, but he knew that it was getting to that time. Midnight. Any second, Angelo was going to to let him know.

Yet, when Angelo actually told him that their time was up, he still felt his heart drop. Even with how much he thought he expected this outcome, his eyes still began to get glossy. He kept quiet as Angelo explained that they were out of luck, but when he asked where to take him next, Carmin spoke up. "Five more. Can we look for just five more minutes." His voice was really quiet, almost desperate.

Oh. Oh. Holding Carmin as he was, it was hard to miss how quiet his voice had gone. He'd thought he was helping, even if he didn't think it would actually help in the long run, but now he wasn't so sure.

Right then he was just wondering if he was making a mistake. If indulging Carmin was doing more harm than good.

"Sure," he said, because he was too committed to do anything else. "We can keep looking."

There was no option but that. He'd help, even if he didn't think it would actually help. He couldn't imagine the idea of abandoning him when he'd already gotten that involved.
