Tyler, though, wasn't actually a bother. To be honest, the psychiatrist finds it amusing that the kid thinks he is, without regard to what other experiences the island's students already presented Versil with, in her course of years being a psychiatrist and psychologist at the same time.

There were those who mocked her, of course, that's a given when they first met her because the rumours failed them. Those who tried to assault her, curious as to what her ability really is about and (yes, believe it or not) actually tried to kill her at some point. She was, however, able to defeat all those with her brother and recently, with her ward, Giro.

And then, there's no denial of her own insanity.
Sometimes, even when she thinks she's already over that phase in her life, she would still see him.

But before she could delve further into that past, she managed to wake herself and from her tea, she glanced over the shy boy she was facing.

She found it quite humorous that Tyler thinks he's being a pain.

That's why she couldn't help but smile again.

Those thoughts made her calm her nerves and she soothingly told Tyler that he's not a bother. "Excuse me for a minute, I need to grab some files from my room and start the real session. As for the staff who can help you control it... I think I can handle that... at least for now. That is if you don't mind me being your companion and whatnot."

As she thought about the course to which she shall take in the next month, she remembered that old park in her hometown where a sole gravestone stands.

And thought about visiting Lawrence once Giro is already settled in the island.

Tyler gave Versil a small nod as she excused herself. There was still a small part of him that didn't believe her when she said that he wasn't a bother. 'She probably says that to everyone,' a small voice in his head said, a voice that had been sowing tiny seeds of doubt into his mind ever since the incident. He shook his head, refusing to believe it this time. He may have only met Versil, but he knew that she was kind and honest. 'But how sure are you?' it asked him. 'How could she even help you? I mean, you can't actually see your progress if a person with nullifying powers is teaching you.'

Tyler frowned at that. The voice had a point. How exactly was Versil planning on teaching him how to control his powers? Would her way even work? She said 'I think I can handle it,' so does that mean that even she wasn't sure if she could help him? The small seed of doubt in him grew just a little at that thought. Tyler bit his lip and hoped that the voice inside his head was wrong.

"I shouldn't have said that," Versil muttered to herself as she opened the last drawer of her wood cabinet. Without realizing it, she included the dreaded "I think..." answer.

She sighed as she hauled the brown envelopes in her arms.

Yes, she thought that Tyler will be someone stronger than most, but still. Tyler is one of those patients who need security and continuous assurance. He's also just a kid, to boot.

Maybe she'll look for other staff members after all, just to help Tyler widen his network. Let the kid walk some deeper waters.

She sorted the files, the ones she doesn't need, and the ones having at least some connections with Tyler's case. She did it rapidly but smoothly, and in a matter of not more than five minutes she was out of her room to where Tyler is, holding a steno pad and a ball pen on both hands.

"I don't want to be too formal, but it is a requisite." She explained briefly before sitting where she was. "By the way," she continued as soon as she set herself and caught the kid's eyes. "Do you trust me, Tyler?"

"Do you trust me, Tyler?"

Tyler bit his lip, looked away and thought hard about it. Did he trust her? Well, he did but did he trust her that much? 'Trust builds slowly over time,' Tyler told himself. 'And you've only just met.' His eyes met with Versil's again. 'But she's already done a lot for me in a short amount of time we've met. She deserves an honest answer at least.'

"Honestly?" He wet his lips. "I trust you when you say you want to help me but," he said slowly then hesitantly paused. "Can you? Help me, I mean," he added in a softer voice. He didn't mean the question as an insult. There was still a nagging part of him that just didn't believe in her, that didn't want to believe her because it was just easier that way. If this was going to work, he was going to have to shut that part of him up.

Versil smiled. "Good. You're honest, that makes my job a tad easier." She doesn't need to take note of his honesty, but she still needed to be sure. At the very least that's one of the hurdles a patient and a doctor need to overcome. And she, being a psychiatrist, is glad that they don't need to fiddle with it any longer.

She rested her straightened back on her chair, pressing the soft fabric of her dress against the hard wood, her long hair caught in between. And then she danced her eyes away from Tyler. She still needs his honesty in answering the next queries she's about to drop one by one. And although he has been honest to her, she couldn't guarantee an honest session. And as far as science goes, those who are stared at does not have the talent to remain calm and rational.

"Do you think I can help you, Tyler?"

His name rolled out her lips like a lullaby she's used to singing. And that's how she handles all her patients normally (she figured Tyler wouldn't want to be treated as someone different from the rest so) — making them calmer than usual, chanting with every breath the very meaning of serenity. The doctor found it more useful to talk with untampered subjects. Because then, she wouldn't be able to induce them with the questions someone only like her could ever ask.

And she's starting with the easier ones, as she always does.

There's still a lot to ask this kid about, a lot to put in her steno pad, but she decided instead to scratch a group of thin, clear cursive lines making up the name of Adam Wayland as she waited for the kid's reply.

"Do you think I can help you, Tyler?"

Tyler blinked as the question was returned to him. "I... mostly think so," he paused again, much more hesitant this time and then bit his lip. He glanced at Versil as she wrote something on her steno pad.

"But a part of me doesn't think you can," he admitted quietly. He could almost see the voice in his head sneer at him (though that can't be possible since it was just a voice.) 'You think telling the truth's going to help?' it asked him mockingly.

Tyler stayed quiet, trying to ignore the voice inside his head as it tried to make him doubt himself. No matter what he did, the voice was going to stay, but he could always pretend it didn't exist. So instead of listening to it, he focused all of his attention on Versil instead and waited for her next question.

"Poppet, that part of you that doesn't believe I can," The plastered smile on her thin lips faded into a solemn line, her eyes gravitating back to catch Tyler's. "Can I talk to him?" And she did not dare move. She just looked at her with a glint of hope in her eyes. Wondering how brutally honest the other voice in this kid would be.

She fancied over the reality that Tyler pushed her into. The reality of hopelessness and uncertainty.

"Can I talk to him?"

Tyler looked at Versil and slowly shook his head. "Not now," he said softly. "I don't want to listen to it right now." The more he thought about that voice, that more he heard it. And right now, he was trying to not hear it.

"Can't we talk about something else?" he asked quietly, pulling down the sleeves of his sweater again. "What was that name you just called me? Poppet?" he asked the psychiatrist even though he wasn't that curious. He just wanted to change the topic.

Just like I thought, he's far from ready. A little push won't hurt, right?

Versil let a gentle sigh escape. "I'm British, that's something akin to 'dear'." She figured she's at least answer him, entertain Tyler a bit. But of course, she knows he knows. Challenging a psychologist in her playground was not a smart move for the kid, and althoughVersil just needs a little nudge to let the other voice act out, she still choose the complicated route.

That's because Tyler refused to have the easy one.

Inhale... exhale. She touched the crook of her elbow just to be sure about the gradual depletion of her effect on him. "Let's see how this will work." She mused as she let her chest fall down rather heavily, a pretty blush dusting her ears for the sudden drawback of her ability.

"But it's winning, isn't it?" She prodded, as if talking to no one in particular with the way her eyes glazed over Tyler's — not really looking, but she's still holding her ground.

"But it's winning, isn't it?"

Tyler bit his lip and stayed stubbornly silent, refusing to talk about the voice. He then noticed Versil's red ears. Why were her ears red? "A-are you okay?" he asked, concern lacing his voice.

The voice inside his head laughed. 'Why should you care if she's okay? So far, all she's done is push you to answer questions you don't wanna answer,' it said. 'Shut the fuck up!' Tyler thought back venomously, his fingers twitching just the slightest bit. He bit the inside of his cheek as he tried to tune out the voice.
