"Indeed. To hone one's physical and mental skill are both excellent uses of one's time." He said as they reached the large log of a fallen tree. He examined it for a moment before carefully hoisting himself over it. Doing so was more difficult than it first appeared, for it was covered in snow and ice. "Do be careful with this one." He warned.

"My own interests are rather similar to yours. I often find myself enjoying the cultures of different civilizations, in addition. I also find Astronomy to be an excellent use of time." Only a few more moments would pass as he would suddenly stop. He held his right hand up as if to signal silence. He wasn't sure if Nakata had heard anything, but something else was in the vicinity. It had taken great caution to keep itself silent, but had apparently erred when the rustle of leaves was heard.

It was a single, isolated incident. But it was there. A rustle of leaves made by one other than Alistair or Nakata. While there was a chance it was something innocent, a quick scan of the surrounding area revealed no other movement. There was indeed a chance of something hostile being present.

Naka figured a solution after watching Alistair climb the log with difficulty. He picked up a nearby fallen branch. After testing it for a second, and feeling satisfied with how sturdy it was, he ran at the log, jumping and running up the log, pressing the branch back against the ground so that he could brace himself. He was lucky that he had light steps but still, he began to start to slip. Somehow though, he managed to make it to the top though by pushing off of the log so that the branch was balanced on the ground for a second with Naka standing on top of it before it fell forward, at which point he jumped from it, landing on the ice covered fallen tree. He slid for a second, but managed to catch his balance just in time. It wouldn't have been a horribly fatal fall but at least getting up there this way served to further some of his training, and it managed to warm him up a bit.

He had managed to gather his balance just as Alistair raised his hand, and Naka knew this signal all too well. With that, he entered a low crouch and began to listen for what had caused the concern. He barely caught the rustling leaves and even then, wondered how much of a cause for concern it was. Still, it was hard to guess what exactly it was that made the teachers want to keep kids out of these woods.

Nothing happened.

Alistair lowered his hand and continued moving. "Perhaps it was nothing." He said. It was at that very moment a hand burst its way through the ground and latched itself onto his right leg. He seemed only somewhat surprised at this, looking down at his leg with a confused face. "What in the world?" Indeed. He had expected a sort of surprise attack, which is why he continued moving. He intended to draw "them" - whatever "them" referred to - out. However, he didn't expect a random hand to reach at him from underground!

They were undead. More than one of them. Besides the zombie hand that now had itself attached to Alistair's leg, two more rose from the ground, one on each side of the two young men. "So then, it would appear that wolves and bears are not the only aggressive things we have in this forest, Master Nakata." He said as another hand - presumably from the same zombie - burst from the ground and latched onto Alistair's other leg. Alistair struggled to keep his balance but the zombie now rose out of the ground causing him to be pulled under the zombie's mass. The zombie began to move ontop of the fallen Alistair, clearly planning to do whatever it was zombies did to living people!

One of the other zombies slowly began moving towards the fallen Alistair, while the third one made its way towards Nakata. "Stupid annoying zombies! It's cold here on the ground! Get off - agggh don't grab me there! How rude!"

Naka was a little insulted. Firstly, he noted how seemingly collected Alistair was, despite his situation. He had not, however, been trained in disposing of such creatures. Despite this, he did what he could, grateful that it was not a bear again. Slowly, he concentrated on the energy in his body. It held only the power of the mind but his father had taught him to focus himself and to do so physically was his best tactic for that. He charged the zombie coming towards him and directed an open palm thrust towards its head.
"Naiden!" He shouted as his palm made connection with the creature's lower jaw and with enough force to give a normal person whiplash, but he followed through with the strike, aiming to push the based of the skull back and into the brain. No powers, no weapons, only the might and will of one fighting as best they could with their own power. It was successful, in the degree that it broke the zombie's neck, cutting off a portion of its brainstem with the base of it's own skull. It would have been harder to do with a living person, but it would seem it had lower muscle resistance.

With that done, he grabbed a rock nearby and smashed it against one of the Zombie's skulls as he kicked the second in the face, but not in a way like he had dispatched the first zombie, and while the two that were on Alistair were now off of him, all three zombies were still up. The one with the broken neck was rising now from the ground.
"I hope you have a solution for this." He said.

"Excellent moves!" He stated way too happily considering the situation. He jumped onto his feet with ease, having only a bit of damp and dirty clothes to show for his struggle. "A solution, you say?" He wondered at the same time one of the zombies came up behind him. He nonchalantly jammed his elbow into the chest of the zombie, causing it to stumble backwards and fall over with a raaaaarrrrrrgh type sound.

"Cheese it!" He cried out, pointing at a seemingly random direction. "This way!" He began racing in the direction he pointed. More zombies began crawling their way out of the ground, and soon it would become obvious that the two of them were surrounded. Even if they had attempted to run, they would not have gotten far.

"Well then, if we can't go horizontal.. we go vertical!" He looked up at a barren oak tree that stood next to him. "Master Nakata, it is my recommendation we climb this tree, lest we become devoured!"

Naka ran with Alistair as soon as he got up, and as they were surrounded, he had turned to fight. Instead of meeting the hoard in combat he had suggested that they climb a tree. With the ice and cold that was going to be difficult, but even still, how long could they possible wait in the tree. They would be trapped, the both of them, and with no escape.
"Is that wise? We'll be trapped." He said as he started to climb.

"Aha! But are we not trapped as we are now?" Indeed, the horde of zombies had them surrounded, now. They truly had little choice unless they had a way to defeat them. But there were too many. Even his Mantras would not be enough to defeat so many in one go. "We can make a break for the treetops and decide on our next move there!" He said as he jumped onto the tree and began climbing it. It was rather difficult, with the snow and ice and all, but not impossible.

As he had predicted, the zombies found themselves unable to climb to the top of the tree. It simply was not possible for them. Alistair reached the top and rested himself on one of the barren branches. A decent view of the forest was available up here, and the roof of the academy was even visible. "Well then." He declared. "I propose we move between the tops of the trees." Of course, this was rather dangerous. However, it would certainly keep them safe from the zombies. The trees were close enough together that ones with able physical fitness such as them would probably be able to make it.

Naka listened but the problem with the strategy was that given the conditions, and though he couldn't die from them, Naka was currently a little deadened from the cold. Moving from tree to tree was easier said than done. He managed to climb the tree but jumping from branch to branch was made even more difficult by the ice which acted as a hindrance.
"Easier said than done. He said as he shivered.

"Hm.. perhaps you are correct. Very well, then." What else could they do? The zombies scratched and tried to crawl their way up the tree, but it was impossible. It appeared they truly were stuck up there. Undead beings did not tire, and it was highly unlikely they would ever give up. Either they would die of starvation and/or hypothermia, or the zombies would get them. He needed another plan, and quickly.

"Master Nakata.." He started. "Do you have the physical ability to break off one of these smaller tree branches?" He pointed to one of the branches just below them. The total length was likely just under six feet - five feet, 11 inches, 3 centimeters, to be more precise - but the thickness of it was likely too much for Alistair to be able to break through. Hoping Nakata was physically stronger - or at the very least, perhaps they could work together - he planned on apparently using the staff as some sort of weapon.

He needed to be extremely careful, though. Not just because the zombies were dangerous, but overexerting himself out here could be deadly. But if he could channel Divinity through the branch as if it were a weapon, he might be able to hold off the zombies long enough for them to escape.

Naka nodded, hanging walking onto the branch over the one Alistair had pointed to and suddenly dropped down, grabbing hold of the higher branch just in time to catch himself and kicking down along with his body weight. As the branch snapped, he grabbed it with his legs and swung it back up to Alistair before climbing back up onto the branch and panting slightly. He still had energy, and he felt just a little warmer for the small amount of exercise but he was going to need to find some sort of shelter before daybreak.
"There, although i don't know what good that's going to do. I broke one's neck and it is among those down there seeking us." He said.
