He arrived exactly at seven thirty.

He confirmed it was Chloe by the shadow that spilled over him and onto the hallway before the door was even fully opened. He grabbed her, hefted her up easily, and tossed her over his left shoulder, keeping her secure by holding onto the back of her legs. He was careful not to let his hand slide up and onto her butt.

The kidnapping had begun.

He was as vague as possible when he sent the letter, because Lochlann wanted to surprise her for a change. He'd gotten his hair cut, his limp was almost non-existent, and he was dressed in a pair of dark jeans and a well-tailored shirt. The change might have been a little startling, but after his last hospital visit, Lochlann was trying to prove that he was fine.

"Are you hungry?" Lochlann asked as he stepped into the elevator, the doors closing behind them. He still didn't like the metal boxes, but he wasn't going to carry Chloe down the stairs. That'd be disorienting.

“Hey, Lo-ACK!” Chloe started laughing as Lochlann picked her up. She laughed as she carried him all the way down the hallway. Her face was red.

One of the other girls who lived on the hall looked worried as they passed by. “Chloe? Are you…?”

“I’m getting kidnapped.” She explained, all laughter and smiles.

“Oh, okay. Have fun?”

They made it to the elevator. ”Hungry?” he asked.

“Ravenous. And I’m ready to walk a long way, too, once you get tired. I have the best shoes for the job.” Chloe wiggled the claws at the end of her scaly bare feet for emphasis, still laughing. She wasn’t expecting Loch to make a joke about her body, but she certainly didn’t mind seeing it in his invitation. Or perhaps it was a kidnapping notification?

“You look nice, by the way, Loch.” He cleaned up rather nicely. Was he trying to impress her?

When Chloe told the girl they passed that she was getting kidnapped, Lochlann didn't slow down, but he did say, "It's consensual" right after.

“Ravenous. And I’m ready to walk a long way, too, once you get tired. I have the best shoes for the job.”

"Good," Lochlann said. Absentmindedly, he brought his other hand up and tickled the back of one of her feet. He made no indication that he was ready to set her down yet. He didn't have the guts to admit that he was a little drunk when he wrote the letter and that he had spent hours trying to picture her wearing heels.

"I am going to take you for the best bar food on this side of the island," Lochlann warned her. "And then I am going to take you to every bar on this side of island until we find one you like or you're drunk enough to dance with me, whichever one comes first. As my kidnapping victim, You cannot refuse. You will have fun. Until then you are my hostage--these are my ransom demands."

He knew the bar-hopping thing wasn't exactly Chloe's style and that her interests were more, well, interesting. Maybe geeky was the word. But he felt like anything else would be too intimate, and he didn't want to accidentally complicate things further.

On the same note of complication, he figured it was implied that Club Gemorrah was not on the places they'd visit tonight.

The elevator dinged and he carried her out of the building and onto the street. The first place he was going to take her was a little bar a few block away, just at the edge of the downtown and the underground.

“You look nice, by the way, Loch.”

"Thank you," he said. "You always look nice, so I take it for granted and don't tell you enough."

“Oh no!” Chloe cried out unconvincingly and pretended to struggle against him. “You fiend! Not fun! Anything but fun!” She hit him lightly on the back with clenched fists.

If Gomorrah was on the itinerary, she’d be able to get them free food and drinks… but with everything that had happened between him and her father lately, she didn’t imagine Loch wanting to go there. There were other bars on the island too, she was sure; hopefully they would let her in.

"You always look nice, so I take it for granted and don't tell you enough."

“Flatterer.” She hit him on the back again and laughed. “Thanks. Do you think people will believe me if I say I’m old enough to drink? I mean, my birth certificate doesn’t exist in this universe, so…”

Oh no!” Chloe cried out unconvincingly and pretended to struggle against him. “You fiend! Not fun! Anything but fun!” She hit him lightly on the back with clenched fists.

”Im so sorry, Chloe, but you’re going to enjoy this if it’s the last thing I do,” he said, giving her a friendly slap on the butt. It was an action of habit rather than any intent. His guard dropped rapidly when he was around her.

He’d met a girl at the place he was taking her to, although he knew she wouldn’t be there tonight. He wasn’t too worried either way—Chloe was off limits and even if he craved her sometimes, he felt relief knowing he had her as a friend.

“Flatterer.” She hit him on the back again and laughed. “Thanks. Do you think people will believe me if I say I’m old enough to drink? I mean, my birth certificate doesn’t exist in this universe, so…”

“I’ll be able to get you in,” Lochlann said. ”I’ve never had a problem when I come in with girls. Plus, really, how would they know you’re not eighteen? I don’t know when my birthday is or how old I am, either. We’ll be okay.”

He didn’t set her down until they were at the first club, which already had a line. Lochlann didn’t set her down, just walked right up to the bouncer and looked him straight in the eyes.

”Excuse me,” Lochlann said. “We had reservations for 7:30.”

Lochlann set Chloe down when they were inside the bar. It was small, with exposed brick, though there was music playing, it wasn’t overly loud.

”Are you a chicken wing person?” Lochlann asked her.

People were staring at them on the way to the first club. Chloe was a little embarrassed, but it was all too funny for her to mind it. Occasionally, she would see someone she knew. They would look at them, confused, and she would go red in the face and laugh a little bit more and wave.

They finally made it to the club, and she could finally walk on her own two feet again. Thankfully, the music was quiet enough for them to hear each other. “I’m down for chicken wings.”

She looked around the club. It was a pretty subdued place in general. A nice change of pace from Gomorrah’s first floor, as far as she was concerned, but it was also far less stylish than Gomorrah’s first floor. “Is this really the kind of place you can get reservations?” she asked him, “Or was letting the bouncer see up my skirt your whole plan for getting us in?” She smirked. This wasn’t a serious question, even if people could see her panties when he was carrying her around.

“I’m down for chicken wings.”

"Good," Lochlann said. "And what do you want to drink?"
He gave a wink to a girl that passed by and she gave him a smile back. He was oozing confidence right now, like he owned the entire world. Lochlann led Chloe through the crowded main room and to the very end of the bar, where he quickly claimed two stools for them. He patted the one next to himself in indication.

“Is this really the kind of place you can get reservations? ….Or was letting the bouncer see up my skirt your whole plan for getting us in?”

”No, I wouldn’t let them see your underwear, especially since we might need to use them as a bargaining chip to get into the one club later,” Lochlann said. He kept his face dead serious, but then the corner of his lip started to twitch into a smirk. ”It’s just a perk of being what I am. Sometimes I can convince people to do things, but only if it’s something they’d want to do normally. They take lunch reservations, so I just played on that and viola, no questions asked.”

Lochlann shrugged. It was sort of hard to explain.

”How do you like your wings?” Lochlann asked. ”They do hot wings, but they also do insane flavors like strawberries and cream. It’s…it’s weird.”

Chloe sat down on the stool next to him. She noticed that wink at that other girl earlier, and it reassured her. Now she was less worried about there being romantic overtones to this little excursion of theirs. She could let down her guard a bit more.

What did she want to drink? “I dunno, actually…” she reached over and grabbed one of the little menus they kept on the bar, flipping to their selection of beers.

”No, I wouldn’t let them see your underwear, especially since we might need to use them as a bargaining chip to get into the one club later,”

Chloe’s head shot up to look at him, eyes slightly widened with worry. If she actually had to take off her underwear…

Loch smirked, and Chloe started chuckling with relief. He wasn’t being serious; he just had some kind of suggestion power that got them into the bar. She nodded with understanding.

Prompted about the wings, she flipped back to the page with food on it. “It says they have a sampler, if we want to… nope, wait, cancel that. They have ranch-flavored wings. We’re definitely doing ranch wings.” She flipped back to the drinks. “And I think I’ll get some MCPA, too.” Manta Carlos Pale Ale, a craft beer brewed on the island. It was delicious. Any bar on this island that failed to have that beer was just an abject failure as a bar. At least, so said the bartenders at Gomorrah who taught her a little about beer.

“I can pay for some of this stuff, by the way.” She moved the small purse in her lap closer to her, ready to pull out her debit card if she needed it.

“You’re a ranch girl?” Lochlann asked, arching an eyebrow. For some reason that surprised him. The idea of Chloe enjoying ranch just seemed….he wasn’t sure. He was grinning at her, though, and honestly Loch was really looking forward to this night.

“The MCPA’s are good,” Lochlann agreed. ”I like those, and the Black Fox lagers.”

He waved the bartender over and ordered an MCPA, a Black fox, and their wings. Lochlann decided to go with the old bay wings, because why the hell not. He was feeling nostalgic.

At the mention of her paying, Lochlann waved his hand at her to dismiss the idea. ”No, I’ve got it. I would be a horrible captor if I didn’t plan to accommodate my kidnappee appropriately.”

When their drinks were brought to them, Lochlann thanked the bartender and took a swig.

”I just started one new job, and I go for training on the other one in two weeks,” he admitted. The drink menu was still out before them and he looked at it, then Chloe, and grinned.

”Chloe,” he asked. ”Do you trust me in a superficial kind of way? I mean, you know better to trust me in general, but I’m not talking about doing anything serious. Just to have you close your eyes and let me put something in your mouth.”

He frowned, and then burst out laughing because that was the worst way he could have phrased it.

”I want you to try something—a drink—but I don’t want you to know what it is. Would this be okay with you?”

“What? Ranch is tasty,” she said. “Sucks on salad, but it’s great on other stuff.”

If Lochlann wanted to pay, Chloe was fine with that. At least she had offered.

She was about to ask him about his new job, but she needed to come up with a nice way to ask. Her initial instinct was to act surprised: how could he, Lochlann Cabyll-Ushtey, ever hold down a job? Who would hire him? But she might have been cutting too deep with a question like that.

The conversation moved on before she could ask.

”… close your eyes and let me put something in your mouth.”

Now it was her turn to raise an eyebrow. “In front of all these people? So forward, Lochlann.” She knew that wasn’t what he meant, though.

”I want you to try something—a drink—but I don’t want you to know what it is. Would this be okay with you?”

A drink from the menu, probably. She spent some time sipping on her beer, weighing the likelihood that he was going to try something like drug her. She spent enough time sipping that beer that it was starting to get awkward. Eventually, she replied.

“…You know what? Sure. I think I trust you that much. Just, uh, lemme know when to close my eyes, ok?” She smiled at him, nervous, but she knew how scared Lochlann was of her father; he wouldn’t do anything too horrible to her. Chloe never thought she would be thankful for how terrifying her father was.
