Octain stood with in the confines of his office, which had a door that lead into his classroom with a one way mirror that was the chalkboard that he could see the class. With his hands crossed under his cloak and his mask bound to his face his eyes watched. Judging and gazing the students as he put one hand through his cloak to look at a small watch. Opening it he checked the time, he still got 5 minutes before class started so he awaited inside his office. He decided that he would take some time before starting class to allow students to sit down. That was his ultimate gift to them.

Though that would not mean that he wouldn't insult those who came in late. That was his favorite part of it all. He went to his desk and looked at his class of Magic Theory. Looking at what he was going to teach. What is magic is pretty much the course. Which is disturbing. Magic was a hard subject to explain, but Octain had a tight grasp on it's powers.

He kept reading it just to ensure he knew what to do. He wasn't much of a teacher, though he was going to enjoy this. A smirk slowly appeared behind the mask. Which still showed the cold faceless void that was the mask. Not even a mouth or nose. He was hoping that most people in the class were people who had water bottles, though he had a case on his desk inside the classroom so people would take one.

He checked his watch as he realized he had one minute to get into the class room and put a rune on the door, so when he went out of this door, he came in through the hallway door when he opened it. Which he did. Coming through the hallway door he looked into the room and sat in his desk.

His red cloak covering his whole body as his mask gazed about the room.

"Before we start, I have gotten water bottles for all of you." He said tilting his head forward with a bit of a smile under the mask.

Morgan had arrived at her class exactly five minutes early as she always did. She quickly prepared a new notebook, for this new class. Morgan was very curious about the strange world around her, she has learned alot apon arriving at Manta Carlos, but she still wanted to know more, and figured learning about magic would be a good place to start. The professor had entered, he looked very strange with his red cloak and his mask, Morgan figured it was a weird act or something, maybe he'd take the mask off later? He mentioned giving water bottles to anyone without one, Morgan being the over prepared person she was, had two water bottles with her, one she had been using throughout the day and was about half empty, while the other was still sealed and in her bag.

Lochlann was sitting in the back of the class, in the row closest to the door. He was just popping in to observe, and he had a note from his adviser that said he could attend one class.

His adviser thought it was a nice thing that Loch was showing an interest in his studies, but truthfully, Lochlann just wanted to know what the hell he did wrong during the first--and only--spell he attempted. He'd wanted a succubus, and instead he ended up kidnapping a girl from another dimension. She was hot, sure, but rumor had it she was taken.

The teacher didn't take off his mask, and he was asking about water bottles. Lochlann looked at them, but was uncertain. He said, "Do I need one if I'm just observing? I'm uh, not really a caster."

Wei was screaming.

He was actually, legitimately, unironically screaming as he tore through the halls, slamming into walls from too much momentum and nearly careening into the floor when he tried to speed up after turning.

It was a mess, and he could tell people were looking outside of their classrooms to figure out who was screaming and why.

The spirit he'd summoned (he wanted to summon the spirit of "getting up ten minutes before your alarm rings", but instead the spirit of "forgetting how to get to where you wanted to go the day of" was rearing its ugly little head, making him turn into dead ends and take the down steps when he really needed to go up) was no help, and he just prayed he wouldn't accidentally end up outside, of all things.

Wei took a hard left into what the spirit was telling him was another hallway, but slammed face first into a closed door, which rattled in its frame.

Fuck this spirit.

Taking a deep breath he got to his feet and was about to keep running, when he noticed the door number. Finally he let out a sigh of relief and opened the door, walked in, and dropped his bag onto the floor, his small chest still heaving with the effort. He realized he was a few minutes late.

“Well, you did cast a spell that one time,” Chloe interrupted Lochlann. She was sitting next to him, the evidence of his extremely unwise dive into the world of summoning. They were still friends, but sans benefits, which made a lot of sense now that Chloe knew what kind of demon she was.

Loch didn’t know about that yet. Chloe didn’t even know if she would tell her girlfriend.

Before Chloe learned that she was the daughter of a powerful demon lord, she spent a lot of her winter break trying to learn illusion magic. She had taken up as much time with her tutor as the school was willing to pay for, and had logged over forty hours of solo practice on top of that. Now she had the ability to will a small, colored ball of light into existence for as much as ten seconds at a time.

Supposedly, this meant she was a fast learner. She was proud of that little colored light-ball. If she logged in even more time, she would even be able to make it move or change colors without her having to start over from scratch.

But Chloe wasn’t here to get better at lame party tricks. She wanted to find out if she could harness her demonic nature for spell-casting. That would help her more than any amount of practice. In theory. If the attempt didn’t kill her, or worse.

Octain stood from his desk. His eyes gazed around the room as he walked over to the door and slowly closed it. Then locked it. Anyone who was late, would have to knock and give a VERY good explanation of why they were late to HIS class. He stood at the front of the room. With his hands inside his cloak and his mask with no face. Looking around the room once more.

"Good morning Children, Magic users." he spoke. "I am Magistar Octain. When you speak with out being spoken you. You respond with. 'Magistar, Octain. Or both. If you wish my attention. If not. Well. There will be punishments."

"Now class.. Attendance. Chloe? Wei? Lochlann? Morgan?" he said looking at a piece of paper on his desk. Then back at the students to put faces to the name. He then walked to the middle of the room between all four.

"You are all hear to understand what magic is. What drives it. The Arcane has many forms. Such forms can be conduits of it's almighty power. As all of you who are in this room." He span around. His cloak sending out a breeze into the room. With that the room was filled with a chant in ancient dialect that Octain only knew. "To show you some of the more mundane uses of magic. Every one has a water bottle yes? Please, all take a drink from it."

Who ever took a drink from water in the room, the water would taste like Orange juice. Which was odd, since the water was originally tasteless. "Each of you must be confused on how the water changes it's taste, normally water is tasteless, see through. Yet. It now tastes of Orange juice with out it being the color or it. In the order in which I called your names for attendance, tell me why that is."

"In this order. I wish for you all to give me your BEST definition of Magic. Morgan, Lochlann, Wei then Chloe." He said as he waited everyone's answer.

(Poster order is Miralis, Saryn, ReD, Anzellous then Kait. Please keep to posting order. Unless the previous poster allows it.)

After being instructed to do so, Morgan took a sip from her water bottle, and was surprised to see it tasted like Orange Juice. She put the cap back on the bottle and examined it seeing that it still looked exactly like water, how did he do it? Morgan was curious if it would effect the other bottle she had, she dug into her bag and broke the seal on the other bottle, taking a drink from it. Despite being sealed the liquid inside the bottle tasted exactly like orange juice.

Morgan had to think for a moment on what her best description of magic was. She had done a bit of studying before hand, but Octain was asking for her description, and not something dug out of a textbook. She finally thought up of a response "I suppose a good description for magic would be, any extraordinary or mysterious power or ability, something that invokes supernatural powers.". She felt fairly confident in her response.

Well, you did cast a spell that one time,” Chloe interrupted Lochlann.

"Yeah, and look how well that turned out," Lochlann teased, a grin making his way to his face.

It disappeared quickly, though. Lochlann was not one of those students that answered questions. For some reason, being put on the spot was very stressful and made him defensive.

Address the teacher as magistair octain. What a joke.

Ugh. But it was his turn to answer already. Lochlann unscrewed the cap of the bottle and took a drink, scrunching up his face when the taste of orange met his tongue. He'd....actually, he'd never had orange juice before. It was supposed to go good with champagne, or so he'd heard, but he wasn't typically a champagne drinker but--

Oh fuck it was his turn.

"Magic is whatever it wants to be," he said, shrugging. He didn't know. He didn't particularly care. He didn't need to know how he could turn from a horse into a man and back, only that he could.

He turned his attention to the strange dude who'd run down the hall screaming, curious to see his answer.

A water bottle? Oh, he supposed that was why there was a crate of them sitting innocently near the front of the class. Wei reached into his bag and pulled out a rather large looking water bottle. It was tinted green with a strap that he could clip to his bag, but the clip was broken and hung forlornly from the cylindrical bottle.

He took a few sips. Actually, he gulped it down because he'd forgotten how thirsty tearing through the halls like an asshole would leave you. But he nearly spat the water out when he found that it tasted like citrus rather than nice clear tasty tasteless water.

Wiping his lips he looked up at the teacher. It was his turn to answer the questions.

"Well..." he began, screwing the top to his water bottle shut. "Magic is the manipulation of energy through a conduit to change the properties of the world around you."

He looked into his water bottle and gave it a sniff, his keen nose finding that it still very much smelled like water.

"It tastes like OJ because of the incantation you just did. It changed the way we perceived the taste of the water."

Chloe sipped the water provided to her. It tasted like orange juice, like the magistar said. She noticed that the monkey-boy has his own bottle, so unless Wei was some kind of plant, this ruled out the possibility that Octain tampered with the water ahead of time.

“Magistar Octain either cast a spell on the water to make it taste different, or on us to make us taste water differently,” she concluded aloud, adding to Wei's commentary.

But she wasn’t answering the Magistar’s question. “Uh, right. Definition of magic…” she trailed off, buying herself a few precious seconds to think about her answer. “Magic could probably be anything that, uh, breaks what we would otherwise call the laws of reality. Like how telekinesis can break newton’s laws, or shapeshifters seem to break, uh, conservation of matter and energy.”
