Name: Jack Tumblepaw
Age: 923 [Appears mid to late 20s]
Birthday: March 15
Gender: Male [He/him]
Species: Fae [Cat Sith]
Category: Citizen
Career: Author of the Tales on the Path series
Appearance Description: One yellow eye, one silver-gray eye, ginger-orange hair. Feline ears and tail. Wears various vibrant outfits but always keeps his left hand entirely covered with long, billowy sleeves or a lengthy glove. Jack’s left arm from the elbow down is made from a soft white ironwood with intricate carvings. The arm itself functions like a perfectly good arm and Jack can even feel sensations with it. When in feline form, he holds the appearance of a Turkish Van cat with the front left paw and leg made of living wood.
Personality Description: Jack is laid-back but seems to carry a sort of weariness behind his eyes. He’s quick to make a joke or smile and can be sweet on anyone he meets. However, he seems to have his head in the clouds and wistful for a life of adventure once again. He also has a strong paternal tendency, especially after recovering from his wounds.
At his heart, though, Jack is a storyteller and entertainer. He loves hearing the stories of those around him and will gladly write down any and all information he can in order to learn
Active Abilities:
Soul Manipulation: An old myth about the Cat Sith is that they could steal a soul before it passed on to the next cycle. There is a grain of truth to the notion, as Jack is able to manipulate the soul of himself and others. This soul manipulation can be used for regenerative healing or reinforcing the body to take less damage. Overuse of this power is dangerous as eventually, it draws from his life-force unless he can rest or restore his mana in some fashion.
Illusionary Master: A staple of the Fae, Jack is able to produce various illusions that affect other people’s senses. He is quite adept at creating fantastic creations of various shapes and sizes. These illusions are difficult to discern, even among those who are adept at seeing through said illusions. Common tricks he uses are illusory copies of himself, turning invisible, or vanishing into a cloud of blood-orange colored butterflies.
Shapeshifting: As a cat sith, Jack can transform between his humanoid form and that of an actual cat. He presents as a very fluffy turkish van, but is still fully able to speak in his cat form. His shapeshifting also allows him to walk on his two back paws like a human would normally.
Vermillion Octave: Vermillion Octave is a weapon unique to Jack, ‘forged’ from ironwood from the Autumn Grove. When summoned from Jack’s prosthetic ironwood arm, a jian shaped blade appears. The sword is unique in that Jack can control the blade with hand movements, similar to a conductor’s wand. Once activated, the blade floats by Jack unless conducted or held in his hand. If anyone other than Jack attempts to wield Vermillion Octave, the blade will begin to drain the energy from their body. Jack can also use his soul manipulation abilities to strengthen Vermillion Octave’s attacks.
Passive Abilities: Restless: Jack no longer tires or needs sleep. He functions perfectly fine without sleep, but due to his cat nature (or so he says), he can still often be found enjoying a good cat nap.
Omnilingual: Jack can comprehend and speak any language, the only requirement is he needs to hear or see the written language first. If he has to look at the language, it takes him a little longer to fully comprehend it.
Beyond Human: Jack has been blessed with superior physical ability beyond the average human. He is as fast as a cheetah and can lift up to seven hundred pounds. His hearing and sense of smell are also heightened significantly as well as his reflexes.
Weaknesses: Iron: As a creature of the Fae, Jack is still bound by the rules of faerie. He cannot touch iron as it burns his flesh and can even kill him if exposed to too much of it.
The Fair Folk: True to the name, Jack cannot directly lie. He can distort and manipulate, but he is still incapable of lying and will honor any agreement he has fallen into. It doesn’t mean he won’t look for a loophole to avoid it, however.
Oathbound: Although similar to the inability to make a lie, Jack also is oathbound if he pledges his loyalty to someone. He is required to fulfill their desires until they are in a state of financial or social success before he is relieved of duty, similar to the old story of Puss in Boots.
Biography: Jack was once a simple fae of simple means, looking for mischief in his court as most fae do. Hailing from the Court of the Autumn Grove, Jack found himself bored of the reds, oranges, and yellows of his domain and longed to be free to explore the outside. Fortune smiled upon him as he found a magical charm that allowed him to cross into dimensions far beyond the lands known as the narrow reality. He travelled for a time, accumulating wealth and prestige for those he served (as well as himself, when possible) and found his life to be enthralling. When he discovered Manta Carlos decades prior to the current day, he was overjoyed to find a new gathering of magically-based individuals who he could share the stories of his travels with. Utilizing a bit of trickery, some good deals, and unique items from alternate worlds, Jack was able to establish himself a nice home on a large plot of land outside the city to enjoy company or solitude as he pleased as well as enough money to throw around to renovate his home on a whim.
Jack would eventually begin to write stories about his adventures through a different protagonist with some embellishments here and there to heighten the stakes. He achieved moderate success and a small following. To keep up with the book series, Jack would continue his travels, meeting all kinds of people to add into his ever growing tales. His luck would run out, however, and on one of his last outings, Jack would lose his left arm from the elbow down protecting a friend. The two managed to barely escape to the island, but his charm had been damaged and he could no longer continue his heroic quests. He spent the next few years recovering, eventually gaining an artificial arm from his homeland made of the same unique ironwood as his blade. Although he longs for adventure, his close call was a realization that no one would really remember him if he had died. His book series was under a pseudonym, his friend had vanished after their arrival on the island, and he had few true friends to speak of. He decided to settle down properly, enjoy his wealth, and perhaps start a family to continue his story.
Resources: Jack has a somewhat larger plantation style home away from the city, although close enough to easily get to and from any of the major areas with ease. The main house is a six bedroom, five bathroom home complete with a study, a large parlor room, a library, and a glass-enclosed swimming pool. There is also a smaller one bedroom home by the garage, designed to be a servant’s quarters. He has amassed a sizable wealth but it mainly sits as he has little to actively spend it on unless something catches his attention.
Additional Information:
-Jack, despite being ‘retired’ from his adventuring life, still actively trains with his blade and hand to hand combat. He’s definitely not in his prime but he can definitely still fight.
-Jack enjoys company and would love to host parties at his home but wants the parties to be with people he cares about rather than just a large group of acquaintances.
-Jack’s property has a lot of stray cats who live on the land due to his feline fae nature and he treats them like an odd extended family. He does reach out to have some of the cats adopted to good homes, whether it be to families in the city or farmers out in the farmlands.
