Of all of the entertainments that you can find on the
Starlight Observation Station, the most popular of all would have to be the Virtual Reality Simulations. Currently operated by Orion Intergalactic, they allow users to create a digital persona and interact with an entirely digital world as if it were real.
Each game is populated by procedurally generated non-sapient NPCs as well as actors hired to play important roles. The games are designed to feel real in the moment, but an important sub-routine after each game separates the individual user from their experiences so that the whole thing was more like watching a movie or playing a game. This was added after a series of high intensity simulation games caused mass distress in participants afterward and the company that formerly owned the system was threatened with litigation.
