The Shadow gave a vague indication of a shrug at Mynaim's assertion that is was weird. Well, it was weird too. Well, it supposed weird wasn't exactly the right word. Mynaim was... it was... it was hard to explain what exactly it was. The first word it thought of was bizarre, but that didn't totally complete its thought on the matter. It was bizarre and interesting, on an intelligent level.
Of course, Shadow actually wasn't sure about the existence of a spider queen. It was pretty sure there was one, because didn't all bugs have queens? But it was pretty sure that it wasn't the kind of spider queen it was thinking of--a black widow with a golden crown.
But then Mynaim issued a challenge.
Oh, the Shadow loved challenges.
It regarded the woman reclining on the Lake and sampled her emotional state. It was so deliciously fragile and secure in self-pity that he almost wanted to lick his lips before diving down and making her day horrible.
"I will make her cry," He said, giving off an air of self-assuredness. "I'll even let you lick her tears."
With that it dove down a little, and spoke to the girl who was at first horrified, then indignant, then angry, before plunging hopelessly into misery just like he liked. Her misery was almost as delicious as her crying face was ugly.
