You could always dream

By the sea. That was where she was. Sitting, perched along the rails, overlooking the rolling seas. She watched as the waves frothed, mind wandering thinking of no particular thing. This is what happens when the mind of Shari was idle.

"It's a beautiful night," she murmured to herself. "Water splashes calmly against the rocky threshhold, the moon sparkling down from above. Pinpricks of stars twinkle in the distance, soon they fade from their glory."

She sighed, and wrapped an arm around one knee, her other leg swinging from her seat. "Relaxation is a wonderful thing..."

Dean walked , slightly bored, slightly happy, on the rail by the sea. He had great balance, and there was nothing entertaining to do, so he'd decided to practice his balance. The day was getting dark, the air a little cooler, but he enjoyed it none the less.

In the close but far distance, Dean heard a voice. It was that of a girl, and it was light, as though she was speaking to herself. He shrugged and continued walking along the rail, but the more he walked the louder the voice became. Then only a mere 3 feet away form him he noticed a girl sitting on the rail, speaking to herself.

"Relaxation is a wonderful thing..."

"It sure is..." He said, now standing next to her before deciding to take a seat.

She blinked, and stared at the person who suddenly arrived into her little world. She hadn't noticed until he was right up to her. She was daydreaming too much.

"You can never get genuine relaxation unless you have nothing to do," she commented, still with a blank face. But if you knew her, you would've known she was enjoying it.

"Well, what brings you out here tonight?" Shari asked, wondering why else he would be out here.

Dean just shrugged, agreeing with the girl. "You've got a point there," He said with a sigh. He swung his feet back and forth, it's not like there was anything else to do.

"Well, what brings you out here tonight?"

Dean gave another shrug and said, "Boredom, I guess." With a small chuckle escaping his lips. He came to the sea out of boredom, and the girl had commented that genuine relaxation came when you had nothing to do, so it looks as though Dean was already relaxed.

She closed her eyes to avoid her blowing hair. "I'm sort of bored too. Nothing to do; nothing at all."

The fourteen-year-old sighed, breath escaping to the winds. "Normally, I would enjoy a nice silence; but today isn't really, normally." She knotched a strand of hair behind her ear and looked out again at the rolling waves. To her scientific point of view, the waves were coming from the wind, the salty spray around her. She hadn't been here a lot.

"I know what you mean," Dean said, giving out yet another sigh of his continuous boredom.

He shrugged and said to the girl, "I can enjoy the silence once in a while, but it's good to have someone to talk to or hang out with, you know?" He looked over to where she was looking at; the waves. He could feel the light spray of the salty sea water on his arms and face. he didn't mind, it'd been a while since the las time he'd taken a swim in the ocean's water. "I'm Dean, by the way." He said, completely forgetting his manners in the beginning.

"Friends or just someone there is always nice," she said, blank eyes on her leg which seemed to have been the victim of the wavering waves. "My sock is mushy and cold now," she frowned, disappointedly, shaking her foot, as if that would help it dry faster.

"I'm Shari," she said, absent-mindedly, focusing more on her wet shoe. She hated getting wet, especially by the sea when she doesn't want to.

Dean just remained silent, feeling a though there was no real need for an answer. The girl seemed a little bit out of it, like she was partially stuck in her own world or something. Her sudden change in topic was odd, but Dean asked. "Did you go walking in the water or something with your shoes on?"

He could tell that the girl, whose name he found out was Shari, wasn't really paying attention to him, but more to her wet socks. He sighed and looked out at the ocean.

"No, I just noticed my shoe was wet. I don't know when. Guess I didn't notice it until it began to stink." She tugged off her left shoe and shook it around like a nut. Then she took off her salty sock and let her foot out into the open cool crisp air. "Much better," she commented, and proceeded to do the other foot.

She let out a sigh of satisfaction, and then she turned to look at Dean. She guess he really was bored. "So, I'm guessing you go to the school near here," she asked, after a long silence of wondering what to say.

Dean still remained silent, not sure how to answer to her comment, but simply watched as she removed her shoe then her sock and then proceeded with the other foot. He couldn't help but give a small chuckle as she said 'much better'.

Dean nodded and said, "Yeah, you? Came in a few weeks ago." He sighed and began rocking back and forth on the rail, trying to find some sort of thing to do instead of just sitting there.
