The thief's question was an understandable one, since he had seen the ability that Hah'en had specifically not used in the fight he saw. But Hah'en was hesitant to answer any questions about her motivations and abilities, and she eyed the thief with distrust in her eyes before answering.
"The reason is most probably the one you have already guessed."
The thief wasn't stupid, he could easily guess that Hah'en had wanted to hide her strongest ability, the ability that gave her the upper hand. It was also an ability that was most effective when her opponents didn't know about it beforehand.
But Hah'en's mist was also not an attack ability, it was meant for camouflaging and stealth. And in a public fight in a big space such as the one she had just been in the mist wasn't as effective. Since Hah'en's opponent could just get out of the mist and wait for her to run out of steam, so to say.

"Fair enough. Just don't want to assume things. I don't fully know how it works or what all you can do with it so was curious."

His statement held a lot of truth to it. He was genuinely curious, but it was also more knowledge. Knowledge allowed him to devise plans for jobs. And that was what had made him so successful in his illustrious career.

He saw the way she had looked over at him. She didn't trust him in the slightest. It was fair not to. But the few that really knew him knew the parts of him they could trust.

"You don't trust me. And that's fair. I am a thief after all."

"Curiosity killed the cat."
Hah'en stated one of her favourite saying in English language. They had a similar phrase in Ovaali, but it was a lot more dramatic. 'If you insist upon your doom go look where the forbidden flowers bloom'. Hah'en preferred the English version, it was a lot shorter and got to the point faster. Just like Hah'en liked it.

"It is good you are self-aware."
Hah'en commented with a hint of sarcasm. Hah'en distrust was very clear for even someone who wasn't as good at reading people, after all.
Hah'en suddenly stopped at an intersection, not giving any hint which direction she had been planning to go, and turned to face the thief.
"This is where we will part ways."

"But progress is born of doubt and inquiry."

Adryan responded quickly and matter of factly. His sharp wit came about for more than just lines to dig at people. He had since gems as well.

Noticing that she had come to a stop at an intersection, he figured this was it. As far as she was willing to let him go. A smile came to his face as she spoke. He extended a hand to her in a farwell. His face soft and sincere.

"It was a pleasure."

Adryan assumed she'd have some sort of come back or a quick line to dismiss him, but he had genuinely enjoyed their little talk and getting to know the one person that had ever caught him a little more.

"And excessive doubt and inquiry leads you to doom."
Hah'en returned right back, basically repeating her earlier statement but in different words. They could most probably keep this debate going the rest of the day and Hah'en didn't have that kind of time so she shut it down by lifting up her hand and saying
"Do not bother answering, we will agree to disagree and move on."

A pleasure? Hah'en didn't doubt it, this man had clearly enjoyed himself by driving her crazy. Though Hah'en was nothing but honest, and when she took his hand she gave is a firm shake and said
"It could have been worse. Goodbye, Adryan."
Hah'en could do the thief a service by calling him by the name he had given her, he had deserved that much.
"I will remain here until you are out of my sight."
She said, and proceeded to wait until the thief was just that. Out of sight, but not quite out of mind. And when Hah'en was certain he was gone she proceeded to turn around and walk two blocks to the direction where they had come from. They had already walked past her apartment building, but Hah'en had wanted to be sure that Adryan would be thrown as off the trail as possible.

Her handshake was firm, but Adryan didn't expect any less. Her retort was right on the money. He was about to respond to her but quickly just nodded to her when she stated they could go back and forth all day. He had no doubt that they could.

He stepped backwards a couple steps in the direction of his home in the woods so he could keep facing Hah'en a moment more. His smile came back across his face.

"No 'Petty Thief'? I'll take that as a compliment."

He turned around facing away from her and threw a single hand up in a parting wave. He had honestly enjoyed the small conversation the two had shared. She was definitely an interesting person.

"See ya around Hah'en..."

He had no doubt that they would end up crossing paths again.
