I guess it's kind of obvious I'm an adult, at this point.
I'm trying not to push any of them away. But it's also a matter of like... who do I let in? I've let some of my nieces and nephews stay with me, but others are just living at the school. Balancing the family situation is difficult.
It feels like everyone on the island is from a broken family sometimes.

Yeah, I get that vibe. My mom was never around, and I'm in a place where I can't see my dad. I miss him a lot, but I also never had siblings that he had to spread his attention between. It was always just me and him.
I think as long as you're willing to put yourself out there and talk to them, that's the best you can do. Some people are just more independent than others.
Also I guess it's obvious that I'm not an adult.

You made it kind of obvious, yeah. If nothing else, there's not many adults still carrying a torch for their childhood best friend. They either confess or move on, because keeping it bottled up will kill you inside.
