Arjean stood by, feeling horrible as they watched Remi try to comfort Gabbi. They didn't want to leave behind their bag and sketchpad, but they also didn't want to cause so much trouble. Seeing her cry and how worried Remi was, Arjean began to cry too. "I'm sorry," they kept repeating, only stopping when Remi combed through their hair with her hands.

"It's okay, you two. I need to keep a closer eye next time. How about we get something to eat? I think there's ice cream around here," said Remi, seemingly trying to add a bit more emotion to her voice. Arjean assumed that was mostly to make Gabbi happier.

Arjean lightened up when ice cream was mentioned. Rubbing away the tears from their face, they grabbed Remi's hand and began swinging it back and forth excitedly. "I want sprinkle vanilla!" they chirped a bit too loudly.

Remi backed away from the two, giving herself enough space to turn into a golden form, then coming out with her lower body being that of a four-legged deer, instead of her usual two-legged one. Arjean knew what they were supposed to do next. She always turned into that form to give Arjean and Junchi back rides when babysitting and playing with them. Flying onto her back and getting themself comfortable, they waited for Gabbi to do the same thing. "Come on."

"Is it alright if I sit you on my back? It'll be easier to keep track of you guys that way," Remi explained, lowering her body so Gabbi could have an easier time climbing on.

At this point Gabbi was so happy to have someone, anyone worried about her well being that she began crying even harder. She didn't want Remi to think anything was wrong so she kept trying to smile and wipe her eyes. She knew she was making Arjean nervous..
Ugh, "Thank you so much you guys. You have no idea how nice it is to have actual friends"
During the majority of her short time on earth, no one ever loved her. Abandoned by her original parents she was guided to an adoptive family who sort of took an interest, but were scared of her powers and abilities, intimidated by her wings and flashy personality.
Luckily she had the minimum she needed to be taken care of, but she didn't feel accepted. She needed friends.

She climbed on Remi's back and calmed down. She hugged her toy, and smiled at Arjean.
"Let's go eat!"

Arjean would have hugged Gabbi, but they still didn't feel comfortable enough to touch her yet. It also wouldn't do any good if they hugged her and they both fell off of Remi's back. Remi was always good at keeping Arjean on her back and not allowing them to fall, but she made it clear that it was possible if they didn't hold on tightly.

"You're welcome," Arjean responded, hoping that was a good reply. It was embarrassing seeing how good Gabbi was at communicating when they themself were still having trouble. This could be a good chance to practice. When they got back to their mommies, they could show off how many words they learned from her, like "commemorate" and "irresponsible." They weren't completely sure what those words meant, but they could repeat them.

"Ummm, what ice cream you like?" they asked her, wondering if they made sense. "I like sprinkle vanilla."

Gabbi looked up from the deer fur that she was inspecting on Remi's back.
"Ice cream? Oh yeah. I like sprinkle vanilla too. That's my favorite. Back in the states they have a place called, Marble Slab. They put the ice cream on marble to mix the sprinkles in. I wonder if they have good ice cream here...."
Gabbi wondered what else they might be doing while they were here.
She hoped they wouldn't split up... her guardians weren't that kind to her. She didn't really want to go home.

Gabbi thought about all the fun she had today even though she had a panic attack or whatever she could call it, she really did have a fun time.

"Are you having fun, Arjean?"
Gabbi went back to playing with her feathers and deer fur yet still waiting for a reply.

Arjean got most of that. "What are states and marble?" they asked, leaning their body onto Remi's back to relax. They had an idea of what marble was, remembering Remi and their mommy speaking about it.

"It's a rock, Arjean," Remi responded. "A pretty rock that shines." She turned her arm into marble to explain what she was talking about, then returned it back to her normal state. "And states are, uh, land owned by people. You'll learn more when you're older."

Arjean never liked to wait until they were older, they wanted to do everything now. It always felt unfair that they couldn't do stuff because they were so young. At least their maman Béatrice always liked to teach Arjean almost everything they wanted.

"I'm having lotsa fun!" Arjean said in response to Gabbi. "Are you?"

Right then Remi stopped to grab them some ice cream. "Large, medium, or small?" she asked the two.

"Large." Arjean always got large. Sometimes the large was too small, so they got two or three, but then they had to stop so they wouldn't get sick.

Gabbi had calmed down a lot ever since she got on Remi's back. She laughed when Arjean asked about her comment.
"All in good time, Arjean. No need to worry. I get that you're impatient, but no worries, ok?"
She compared her current experience to how she was feeling about three months ago.
"Yes, Arjean.... I'm having lots of fun with you. I hope we can become great friends."

Gabbi realized they had arrived at the ice cream parlor. And she was relieved that she had friends to go with this time. She had been alone before for far too long. She was actually happy. She smiled and replied to the attendant, "Medium for me, please. Vanilla with sprinkles. In a cup, not a cone."
She laughed when Arjean asked for a large. They were so big, that she understood why they needed so much ice cream. Gabbi looked down at her body, "Yeah, a medium should be enough..."

She grabbed her new stuffed animal friend and shook the snow globe.
A memory to remember a perfect trip.

Arjean tried to hold back shooting a glare at Gabbi. She may talk fast and in a complex manner, but they could understand what she was getting at most of the time. Despite not being that much older, she was still a big kid, and they deserved respect. Arjean always tried to be nicer and more polite towards those older than them, but sometimes it was hard to prevent themself from pulling at their hair, or biting them, or throwing something at them. They were getting better... slowly.

They stayed quiet, not responding to Gabbi's first comment. Rather, they responded to the second thing she said. "Yay! You can meet Junchi then. And Maman and Mommy and Grandy."

After they all got their ice cream Remi walked over towards a nearby table and allowed the two kids to get off her back so they could find their seats. Arjean didn't move for a bit, surprised by how smart Gabby was at speaking. It gave them a bad feeling in their chest: jealously. They wanted to be as smart as her; it made Arjean both admire and feel threatened by Gabbi. They tried to keep their feelings hidden though, still acting cheerful and happy as usual.

Remi sat down once the two got into their seats. She sat quietly, texting on her phone and occasionally looking up to check on the two kids. Then she remembered a question she should have asked earlier. "Where did you come from? Like, your family or group? You couldn't have gotten in here alone." She hoped dearly she didn't accidentally kidnap a child.

Gabbi felt a bit of tension coming from Arjean. It worried her that she could hurt Arjean.
She didn't want to cause a fight between them, she really liked Arjean. She wondered if it was her, or if Arjean was always like that...

On the other hand she was having a really good time. She never really hung around people her own age it seemed. Things were so tense at home. Her adoptive parents really didn't understand her or her abilities at all. It was important for her to develop outside relationships besides just being at home.

Her parents had moved all the way to the island for her, and because of her. Her parents didn't want to be seen with her in other places where there were no supernatural creatures. They were embarrassed of her. On the other hand, they loved her and wanted her to be happy, so they moved to Monte Carlos to help her be with other people like her.

Gabbi thought it might be difficult to explain this to Arjean, would Arjean understand all of this? She wasn't quite sure whether to open up her life to discussion like that.
She decided to speak directly to Remi, the asker of the question.

"So, I'm adopted. My birthfather was an Angel, and my birthmother was a human. This was back in the US, where I was born. I was abandoned by my mother. She clipped my wings and left. I was found very soon after by my guardian angel who helped me find my adoptive family. After they discovered my wings because they grew back, we moved to Manta Carlos. They would never harm me, but they were embarrassed by me, so they found this place. They dropped me off here. It's not that they don't care, but they just don't understand... you know?"

She hoped Remi wouldn't judge her.

After that long explanation she noticed Arjean, and smiled. She also wondered what Arjean thought about her, but she was too scared to ask.

Arjean only understood half of that, but that was because Gabbi was speaking so fast. They looked up at their older sister, wondering how she would respond. She looked stunned but sat there thinking while she chewed her ice cream sandwich. When she swallowed, she finally spoke. "Oh... So you were abandoned here. But where are your guardians now? They must be so worried, with you gone and all. If you came here on the school trip we should find your teacher."

"I wanna help," Arjean suggested timidly. "Please? I got good senses." They looked at Remi and Gabbi, hoping to be approved. If they flew high enough they could find whoever was taking care of Gabbi, or they could smell out the teacher.

Gabbi felt a little aprehensive at this statement.
"Well, you see no, I wasn't abandoned here. My adoptive parents took me here. They signed the form saying they would bring me here and pick me up. My teacher knows I'm here. When I got here I told Mrs. Weaver I'd be fine by myself. She said the students could wander as long as they were back by 6 pm. Right now it's only 5 pm.
What I was trying to explain was that I'm adopted. So, a lot of people don't understand what that means. I was just trying to explain it to you,
See my adoptive parents, I live with them. They take me to school every day. They brought me here."

She wondered what Remi's intentions were by stating that she had been abandoned.
Was she a bother to her and Arjean?
Would she meet Junchi?
Was she welcome to hang out with them?

These kind of questions tended to pile up in Gabbi's thoughts when she felt rejected.
