Love was a weird concept for Ava, all aspects of it. Her mother had never said to her face that she loved her, she had shown it in actions. Ava had felt it, her mom's love. And Titus was the same, he didn't need to say it for Ava to know he cared about her. Which was why Ava was so confused. She shook her head and let it sink down against her knees. Her heat was almost completely gone, leaving just a tired, tired Ava.
"I don't fucking get it, Hal. I really don't. They got absolutely no reasons to lo-...care about me outside of the family tie. I don't get why they would even take me in after seeing what a pain in the ass I am. I'm not wallowing in self-pity, it's just the truth that I'm not the easiest person. And neither was my mom, which was probably why that asshole bailed in the first place."

"Sometimes it's hard to see self-worth," he began, relating to that comment as he spoke. A little sadness came over him but he had to help Ava, he was not going to let it show. "But other people remind you of that by showing that they think you deserve their love." If she wasn't accepting what he said to her and she wouldn't go somewhere else then he had no idea what to do. If someone like Titus was there, it would make what was said more meaningful since he would be explaining why he loves her, not why Hal presumed he did.

Hal did not know Ava that well but he could understand how she could be a handful to look after. "Does it not prove to you more that people have stuck around and not run away from you?" It was asked as a question but meant more to show how wrong she was. Not bailing on her showed that she was loved but the why could only have been clarified by her adoptive father.
