What the clouds called for

After about 10 minutes of finding his way to the roof in a massive school like this one, Shinji finally made it to his destination. As soon as he entered the roof area, he looked into the stars above. he had never seen so many clouds in the sky. This was the perfect place to come at a time like this. He walked over and sat on the edge of the roof. The air had a small breeze running through it at the moment and it brushed Shinji's hair to the side. It didn't bother him at all. he was too into the sky. he was always a night person anyways. It was around 11:30 at night. Leaning over and resting his elbows on his knees, he looked down to the streets and watched all of the pedestrians walk to around. "They all look like ants from up here. I can't believe that i am up this high." He started as he looked back up for a moment. "I feel as if I can touch the stars right now." He smiled and put his right hand into the air reaching for the distant rays of light in the sky. He chuckled, "Me and my fantasies..." he loved it up on the roof too much to ever want to leave but he was still starving from the trip there. He felt he needed this time to take in the scenery. Shinji rested his head on his palm while it was still on his knee. He had full support for the laziness of his neck.he stared off into the distance and didn't take his eyes off of the horizon where he could see all of the lights as well as the stars themselves. He was completely relaxed.

Cytus had come to notice that despite school being out, the roof tended to become a very popular place at night. A strange irony considering that when she talked to students about their assignments or other work they had been assigned in an attempt to collaborate, they merely brushed her off to leave school as early as possible, only to return when classes were not in session.

Cooperation was not a trait that humans shared apparently. They didn't enjoy work, but they did enjoy the fruits of the labor of those that had made this school what it was. A shame really.

The Aenari walked softly staring up, knowing that there was a particular star in the sky, but not exactly being able to see it, almost appeared blank in her search. Her walking was blank and blind as well, and in her blind walk, ignored her other senses for a moment, and bumped into someone who was sharing the area with her.

She was immediately apologetic for the intrusion.

"Forgive me, I was not aware of where I was."

Shinji continued his gaze into the distance where the stars met the horizon line. He was obvious to almost everything around him but somethings that he noticed weren't very important factors. Things such as the light breeze that was constantly moving his hair into another place was a perfect example of these non-important factors. Soon enough, before Shinji was able to notice, someone else made their marry way to the roof top just as he did. No doubt they wanted to stare at the stars like he wanted to but there was no guarantee that this was true since some others would rather stay out all night with their friends or stay inside glued to a television or something of those sorts. Without noticing the polite young lady who accompanied him on the roof, Shinji just sat there until he was bumped lightly but said lady. "Wah?" he said under his breath as he turned his head to look behind him. As e looked at her he processed the fact that there was another person there with him and he had completely forgotten the manners that his parents taught him. Immediately jumping from the edge of the roof and almost falling off, he stood up, beginning to speak. Before he could say anything he realized that she had apologized to him for. "Oh no, you are completely fine. No need to apologize." He said with a small smile. "Have you come to enjoy this beautiful night?" He asked immediately after to start off a conversation. He may not have showed it too much on the outside but he was extremely excited to meet another attendant of the academy. He almost didn't know how to act.

Cytus only kept staring straight ahead, head pitched at a precise angle that humans probably wouldn't find comfortable for long periods of time. Although she did not make eye contact with the person she had run into, and had instead simply backed off, Cytus remained resolute with her apology.

"I learned it was customary to apologize to someone if they had been wronged, is that incorrect?"

Cytus had so far apologized to everyone for her apparently eccentric way of interacting with them, and each had accepted. This then, would make the first divergence from the formula.

"Beautiful night?"

She contemplated the question. Cytus couldn't see much in the way that others did, so, no. But she again did not know why she had come to the roof in the first place. Sentimental value perhaps?

"No. There is a star in the sky I wish to return to."

The lady didn't even make eye contact with Shinji. He was a little confused but he knew that there were never two souls that were the same so he figured that she was as different as different could get. "Yes that is true but its always nice of the opposite person to tell them wheyher they were actually wronged or not." Standing straight up, he looked around at the seemingly infinite sky looking for the star she spoke of. "Well I'm sure that if you sit out here long enough with these little dots of bright, pure energy, you will see what i mean. Which star exactly are you looking for? I mean if you don't mind me asking." He asked her with a lower voice than before. She seemed like a downer to him but at this point he didn't care. This was the firstpperson that he had met at his new school and he wasn't going to ruin the moment. Besides, she was fascinating and sparked Shinji's interest.

Coming from a few thousand to a single city that was at least four times the size of an entire population had been difficult on Cytus. With so few people around, each member of the culture got to learn one another on a deeper level than she had been capable of so far on this island. Deviance had so far been difficult to cope with.

"I will remember that."

Maybe. Social norms were not something she took to remembering too well, and although Cytus would make an honest attempt, the thought was not guaranteed.

Cytus lifted a slender finger, and pointed it at an extremely faint flickering light, the one she had been staring at this entire time. It was something like a beacon, and although Cytus could not see it, she unconsciously would be drawn to it.

"The scientists here call it Eta Carinae. And yes, I suppose you could call it beautiful."

Shinji was unlike most people. Usually others would have looked at her in an off fashion but not him. No, Shinji only smiled more and more. Not from humor, more from the simple fact that she is so distant from everyone else. It was cool to know of someone that I'd from another place. Obviously it wasn't impossible considering there are people with unatural powers on the planet earth. "Do you plan in going back there any time soon?" Shinji asked as he was a curious person. "Well she said she was from there and she claims IG as beautiful so she must have been an inhabitant of said place. I wonder what its like there..." He thought this as he awaited her reply. She seemed to be very 'to herself' and was obviously not native since she used pretty much slang nor accent in her conversations. Shinji just wanted to know everything about her and her foreign race at this point but didn't want to be rude. The breeze blew by once more pushing his hair into his eyes. UsinghHus index finger, he slowly moved his hair to the side and awaited her response.

Cytus lowered her finger, but continued in her blind stare towards a light that was far more distant than her gaze on any day. Was she going to go back? It was a question she had debated for a very long time, but was never quite sure of since it had a variable answer depending on her mindset.

"There is nothing to return to."

A rather cryptic statement, even by her own standards. In this case however, Cytus had no problem elaborating on her conundrum. She finally decided to look him in the eye...as much as she could anyways.

"The light you see from that star is false. It will continue to shine for just under 8,000 of your years, and then will fade from existence. The system was destroyed several years ago in a cataclysmic pair-instability event."

Code for a supernova. A hypernova if one was getting to really big explosions.

"There is a singularity in its place. A black hole."

"There is nothing to return to" She said with one of the most expressionless voices that Shinji has ever heard. He looked at her squinting. He didn't know what to think of this until she turned and looked him in the eye explaining what happened. Nothing more than a tragic story to a single being that seems like something too big to bare. He looked away for only moments before looking her dead in the eyes. "Well then you will have to take refuge here until your lifespan ends, right? So why not try to lighten up." he said in an attempt to brighten the conversation. Shinji looked away as the breeze pushed his hair once more. He turned around and went to go sit back on the edge of the roof. "If you don't mind, would you come here for a moment?" Obviously she didn't have to if she didn't please to because she has her own free will but also because they just met, but Shinji wanted to take away that expressionless, or even depressed as some might call it, attitude so that her life wont be full of thoughts of her lost planet. He didn't know how but he would at least try to cheer her up no matter what her race is.

"I will stay here as long as my chance of survival remains sufficiently high. Should any event threaten my longevity, I will leave."

The problem with lifespan was that an operator was functionally immortal. Not supernaturally slow, but a biomechanical body theoretically functioned forever with proper maintenance. Of course, it could be injured, damaged, or destroyed like any other piece of ill-maintained equipment given enough force.

"Lighten up?"

Cytus was not questioning the statement, but she hadn't heard this particular expression before. Or maybe just in passing, and instead had thought it irrelevant to her needs.

But instead of answering, the man simply asked her to the edge of the roof, a request that she complied with without hesitation.

"Is there something you wish?"
