What the clouds called for

Shinji didn't really notice the question she asked about the phrase "lighten up", but instead he asked her to come to the edge of the roof with him. He wanted to see her reaction to other things. "I take it that you have lived on Earth for awhile now, right? Well, look at all of those people down there, all the light, and the happy faces. Shouldn't you embrace this place as your new home rather than seeing it as a way to survive?" He paused looking at all the people down at markets and all of the buildings below. The lights weren't as bright to him, though, because his eyes were specially developed to dim his eye sight so that he wasn't blinded by the over use of his power. But he knew that it was still a great sight to see. His pause wasn't the end of what he was saying but after saying this and then looking at the ground below, he stopped to hear reply. His expression was no longer of interest as it was more of sentiment.

"I cannot see if they are happy or not. I haven't been able to read anyone since I landed here." She said as she studied the people below. Shinji could here it in her voice. She was actually starting to show the slightest bit of emotion and for that he felt accomplished. No one, not even foreign beings can hold back emotion if they were made with the ability to have it. Some say its just a mind set but eventually everyone will feel it one way or another. "I wonder why that is?" He asked himself as he kept looking below at the people who seemed to be ants. "I assume you may have been using something to help you try and read other people's emotions and reactions. That would never work." He paused and sighed. "You can't tell someone else's emotion until you know what that emotion was in your own means." He looked at her. She hadn't looked away from the people as if she was trying to read them again. Looking away, more into the distance than at the people, he continued talking. "Everything you are having trouble with revolves around not being able to see another's emotion. Actually, if you can't see it, then you would be able to hear it in their voices. You'll see. Obviously its going to take you more than a month to notice these things. It'll come to you eventually..." Shinji stopped and stood up from his seat on the roof. He looked over to her once more and said nothing before putting his hands in his pockets and sighing. "She has a long way to go." he thought continuously after he finished saying what he had to say to her.

Shinji was interested in this but a little confused. "Well why don't you use these telepathic powers with us humans? I don't suppose that it would be harmful to us" He said in a curious and confused tone. Hands still in his pocket, he began to jingle the key to his dorm room. That is, until it began to stick to his hand. The static cling from his power was amplified from the key being a metal. He was almost disappointed that this had happened because it meant that his mind was being over active. "It could be worse though. Good thing I am already in a relaxing place." He thought to himself. A couple more thoughts went through his head concerning the women he was talking to, but they were quickly expelled from his thoughts because they were rediculous and too far fetched. Although he would like to know a little more about her race to further understand her situation.

While Shinji's new acquaintance was still talking and explaining herself, he was still trying to get his key unstuck from his hand. Don't make the mistake of thinking he wasn't listening, though. He was listening intently while do this. You may call it multitasking if you will but he wouldn't think of it as so. Both hands still in his pockets, he listened to what she said. He did understand fully of what she was talking about. Reading ones mind without their consent first is rude and an invasion of their privacy. But what he understand but was a little confused on was the fact that she had forgotten how to use her abilities. he didn't know that one could forget something like that. But now he knows all to well that it is possible and maybe even possible for humans. It wasn't so far fetched to be able to forget something of the sort. She hadn't had anyone to meld with for awhile, that's the reason. "Could you meld with a human if they had given you the permission?" He asked. he asked this for something else that he would have said after her answer if it was yes. But immediately after he asked this she said something more. She claims that said abilities would return after some time has passed. May be awhile though. "She doesn't know how it would affect a human?" Well that kind of sucks, plus it answers my previous question." Shinji thought to himself as he finally got the key to un-stick to his hand. Although, it was only done so that it can stick to his hand again in less than a few seconds. he was like a magnet. It was somewhat annoying to him.

There was a moment of silence after she had finished talking. But before he knew it she said something else. "Your body emits electromagnetic radiation?" is what came from her lips as Shinji looked at her through the corner of his eye. "How did she notice that slight change...?" he thought in his head in surprise. "Umm yea kind of." He paused to think on how he would word his explanation. A light bulb appeared above his head as he thought of a simple way of doing. This may also be a small lesson on a human brain if she didn't know this already. "Let me explain, the human brain sends small currents of electricity through the nervous system that we have. The nervous system is like a mass of small lines that are all throughout a humans body. The brain sends these currents to a designated nerve to make that part of the body move. Well, with me that process is amplified. The currents that are sent from the brain is heightened making more and more electricity move through my body than normal." Shinji paused and took a breath. After a moment he started again. "In doing this, I can emit small currents of lightning though any part of my body while exerting it. The electricity would have to have some outlet if too much is generated and that is what I do. What you just felt was the over activity of my brain and its accidental release of too many currents making my dorm room key stick to my hand." After saying this, he turned to look at her. He then took his right hand out of his pocket and shows her how the key is without a doubt stuck to his hand like glue and will not come off easily. "I apologize if it bothers you." He said afterwards. He had made such a long winded explanation too. He thought it would be small than that but apparently he was wrong. One last thing occurred to him as well, they hadn't yet exchanged names.

Shinji was still facing the girl. His hands was still held up with the key stuck to it. There was no reason for him to keep up this position so he didn't. Putting his hands back into his pockets and then turning back to face the town and its people, Shinji's expression was slightly less enthusiastic, not that he was enthusiastic in the first place. He was just in a particularly good mood. "Well if you are still able to, why don't you try it with me. I mean I have no problem with it anyways and plus I have nothing better to do." He asked with a little chuckle at the end showing a little humor. "Our bodies work the same, except you are an anomaly. You can create...atanzaw?" She said to Shinji. He was very well confused on the word choice she used. He had no idea what that word meant. "At-an-zaw?" He said in an attempt to pronounce the word aloud. Was it another language or was it from her native language. He was about to ask but stopped in the event of him seeing her make a forked shape with her hands. "What is she doing?" He thought to himself. He didn't at all know what it was so he got to thinking for a bit. It took him a few minutes but he finally realized what she was doing. "Forked lightning..." He said in his head. "Oh yes I can create lightning if that's what you are asking." He paid no mind to her calling him an anomaly because he knew that he was and wasn't ashamed of it in the slightest.

"Here let me show you how I do it." he said as he lifted both of his hands from his pockets. He forced the key off of his right hand using his left. It fell to the ground and he left it there. Shinji knew he would have to pick it up after his little 'demonstration' so he kept it on his mind so that he wouldn't forget it. He turned to her, looking at both of his hands. Soon after turning to her, he cuffed them gently. His hands were already generating a small amount of the static already so it shouldn't take long to make more of it into lightning. Shinji closed his eyes and took a deep breath. Small crackling sounds could be heard as the inside of his cuffed hands glowed a bright bluish color. Opening his eyes, he also slowly opened his hands, pulling them apart showing a thread of lightning attached to both hands. It sparked and waved all over but never left the area that was displayed between his hands. "See what I mean?" He said as he let the lightning go and disappear instantly. "Whether it bothers you is up to you and you alone. I don't know whether it should or shouldn't bother you." He stated later after he had put his hands back in his pocket. "Oh! My key!" he thought as he bent over picking up his key and then sticking it in his pocket only for it to get stuck to his hand once more.
