Riley sat quietly at the table, one of his his legs shaking up and down which was a clear sign of him being nervous. He had a lot of reasons to be nervous and the main reason was mostly due to the person who had "saved" him.

Aranea the scout; he haven't spoken to her in awhile though that was mostly due to the fact he had stopped getting into trouble. This meeting was also just sort of out the blue anyway despite Riley being the one who wanted to meet and talk to her....which is also a first.
He had asked her to meet at this cafe because he wanted to show her a surprise. The surprise being that he wasn't undead anymore.

Aranea almost didn't recognize him. She knew Riley as the odd-smelling zombie boy she found in a swamp, a living urban legend. She knew those stitches, the way his eyes sagged. Or, used to sag.

She had to stop mid-skitter and stare at him for a second. "Riley? ...Riley! The living legend, you're actually alive now! Look at you!" It was all smiles and delight, shoved out in front of all the confusion and the white-hot burning curiosity she felt.

She hoped this was meant to be a good surprise.

Riley waved at Aranea once he spotted her which wasn't hard to do since she was a spiderlady.

"I don't know about the legend part but the living part is right." He said flatly despite the little smile he had on his face. Oh look, he's trying to be happy and it is working! Now that Aranea was here his nerves seemed to calm for a bit and was just more glad she actually had came.

"So yeah, I'm basically alive and well. Just a normal human among all of you guys now."

This felt like good news, from how Riley was behaving, so she was going to treat it like good news. "That's fantastic~"

She shifted into her mostly-human form and sat in the chair across from Riley. With a fanged smile and four happy eyes, she flung a line of web at an adjacent table. It landed directly on a menu. With a flick of her wrist, the menu flew into her hand. "I want to hear all about how this happened. But first - what kind of human food do you like from here? My treat. I could use a bite too."

She remembered a few things about Riley's dietary habits. Those were probably different now.

Riley was going to tell Aranea everything, it was no point in hiding what happened. Before he could even get the first few words out, she had asked him what kind of food he wanted. Riley just sort of sat there a bit confused and thrown off.

"O-oh uh...shit." Riley scrambled to look at what was on the menu for the place they were at. "Fries? Just some fries...I'm not really that hungr-" and just before he could finish, his stomach let out a very low growl. "....Nevermind. i guess I am."

"Fries it is," she said with a laugh. "I hope you haven't been forgetting to eat." It almost sounded like he was, or that he was at risk of doing so.

Aranea would get Riley a dish with fries (and an entree, if he wanted one when the waitress came by). Aranea would get a smoothie and a bagel.

"So. How did you do it? It must have been some pretty big magic." She expected that Riley had been saving up for it, or else he was on a payment plan to cover it. Yet another reason why she would have wanted to pay for his food.

Riley let out the quickest and tiniest laugh in the form of, "heh". That's a good sign; he's laaaaughing. "Kinda hard to forget to eat when my stomach starts bein' all weird and grumbly." Like now. His stomach was definietly being grumbly.

He started to eat the fries as soon as the waitress brought them over. Riley was a hungry boy and as far as he knew, these were the perfect fries.

He took a moment from eating to glance at Aranea, she wanted to know all the details about how he is alive right now. "Well uh...I was going to do it myself but.." he wasn't confident. "I figured maybe get someone elss to do it? There is this reaper guy whose job is to fix souls and stuff for free."

"It is his duty as a reaper" Riley said making the air qoutes with his hands. "He fixed me up good. No weird side effects, no reverting, no nothin'. I'm just your regular human."

"For free, too? That's lucky." She took a sip of her smoothie, imagining what it must be like to enjoy simple pleasures like this food again, after so long.

Aranea had reservations about this reaper and his 'duty,' but hey, at least he didn't seem to be hurting anyone here. It wasn't like he was going around and 'purging the undead' or anything like that, which is the sort of thing she had grown to expect from people whose duties called for the removal of undead.

Plus, Riley seemed a lot happier now. Kid must have been miserable before.

She smiled at him again. "What's your favorite thing about the change?" Aranea would only realize later that this could be a dangerous question - it might have been sex, or something else she didn't really want to know about.

"My favorite thing?" Well what was his favorite thing? Riley wasn't sure and was really just glad he was even alive. Things felt better, he felt better. He could live a normal life now if he wanted.
"Uh...Just being alive....having a heart." His hand moved over to where his heart would be just to check if it was still beating.

"Though um, that's not the only reason why I called you here."

Aranea smiled at that - Riley had a heart now. Even if it was literally a true and new thing, that was also really sappy. But she could respect it - he'd probably been missing out on a lot of emotions since he died. She was trying not to get emotional about it herself.

But this wasn't the only thing Riley called her for. What an ominously vague thing to say. When he didn't immediately explain himself, Aranea started to worry. "...Alright, what's up?"
