"So...I don't know what to d-" Riley stopped himself. He thought about this real hard already and made his decision. He knew what he wanted to do or at least give an attempt at doing
"There isn't anything special about me anymore, i'm not a rotting corpse. I can finally go back and stuff...start new...but" he glanced down at his drink briefly.

"I want to become a scout and uh..I figured I ask you for all the needed information and stuff?"

"You want to be a scout..." Aranea grinned. She approved, but she wasn't sure where to start.

"Well, let's see. The information you need depends on the kinds of roles you want to fill. If you want to put on your social worker hat when you work with us, you're going to want to start taking classes that'd help you become a social worker." She had a feeling that wasn't the kind of thing Riley wanted to do, though. Unless he was secretly good at dealing with kids and parents - she'd been surprised before.

"But if you want to do investigative work, that's a whole different skill set. You want to learn a lot about the supernatural so you know what kinds of things to look for in the field and how to follow up on them. And how to get out if you're in a bind. A good advisor could help you there. And on top of that, my advice that you read up on fae society, no matter your role." They'd lost a scout that way.

"Other than that... I guess, you have to apply to become a scout like with any other job. Make a resume, network with some of us, keep an eye out for our recruiting events that sometimes double as early training..."

Hopefully that covered whatever Riley might be asking for.

Riley listened to what Aranea was saying and just taking mental notes. Social Work wasn't really what he wanted to do since his people skills were complete shit. If he could get better with his social skills he would probably think about it later but for now he was dead set on just the investigation side of things.

"Fae society? Uh alright." That was specific. Riley knew some things about how some fae operated but he never really had much trouble from any fae since getting here. He just knew things could get really complicated and could go south real quick if someone isn't careful.

"So I just need to uh, make a resume and apply?" It sounded simple enough. "Is there a certain time I have to apply or I can just go do it now? I want to just start training and stuff as early as I can."

"Oh! Um..." Shoot, he really didn't look it up, did he? "Well, you probably aren't ready to apply yet. The school website has some information about the kinds of candidates we're looking for. But there's some classes you can take at the college level to get ready."

She would go on for a bit about the requirements for investigative roles, and how his experience as a cryptid could strengthen his resume. She thought he could make the requirements with another year or two if he focused in on it, but she was leaning towards two just to be safe.

"I might be wrong about that, though. Our recruiters could give you a better answer than I can. They might have changed it a bit since I applied... let me give you an email address." She wrote it out on a napkin, along with a note that said 'mention me if u contact her.'

Riley finished the rest of his fries as Aranea continued to explain things. A year or two of getting qualified sounded reasonable. That gave him enough time to train, study, or do whatever he needed to do to help him become a good scout. Maybe learn some type of magic that could help him better.

"Thank you..." Riley being thankful? Still seems weird. "If it wasn't for y'all I would probably still be dead in that bayou." He hated that place and didn't even want to think about what would have happen if Aranea or any other scout didn't come save him. So yeah, he was really thankful.

"Is there anything else I need to know or look into? Um...any training tips or suggestions for magic?"

Aranea gave Riley a big, toothy smile. This job could be really rewarding sometimes, as Riley was reminding her.

As for the training tips... "Well, the most important skill for an investigative role is being good at investigating. So, don't laugh, but something that helped me a lot was logic puzzles. Sherlock Holmes talks about deductive reasoning all the time for a reason - you're going to use that. If you really want to pick up some magic tricks - anything that helps you learn things you couldn't otherwise. So, scrying, invisibility to sneak into places... turning into a very small spider, maybe," she smirked, "That sort of thing. Extra senses are great too. We like those.

"And you want to either be fit enough to get yourself out of trouble when you find it, or to have something up your sleeve for it. Even if it's just working on your cardio - there's no shame in running away when it gets bad enough." Even Aranea had done that before.

"Well alright..." There was a lot of things Riley had to consider and look into now. If it was really going to take a few years then he guessed he had enough time to train and shit.

Riley scratched at the back of his head as he just thought over everything Aranea had told him. "I guess that was everything I needed then?" Was there anything else he needed to ask? He guessed he could also just ask her later when he could think of something else.

So what now? Probably a good idea to just start training. After finishing his fries, Riley got up from his seat and just seemed ready to go now. "Um...seriously...thanks, thanks for everything."
