What must I do to be alone?

The 15 year old Kartik walked quietly around a section of a mountain. He was enjoying the few moments he had to himself. He had been through class after class that day and people had bugged him about all the miniscule details of his life. At a couple points, he was ready to bite someones heads off. He just wanted to be alone. He kicked open a guitar case that was at his feet. His favorite instrument.

After a few minutes of strumming pointlessly on his guitar, he set it back in his case. His eyes darted around, trying to see if anyone was there. He listened intently, hoping he wouldn't hear the sound of leaves moving or anything that could mark the entrance of his former master.. or captor.

Joe noiselessly came up behind the boy and just stood there. She had been up in the mountains on her own because her sister, Violet, had gone off in a depressive mood and left her to fend for herself. And Joe had always enjoyed going up into the mountains where the air was fresh and crisp. Up here she just thought about anything that can to mind, and sometimes imagined situations/encounters she would have with people--such as this one.

Joe hadn't thought she would see anyone in the mountains today, but there was always surprises life threw her. She hadn't imagined a situation like this one, but it greatly amused her how she could just stand there behind the sitting form without him noticing her.

Making a decision, she lifted her index finger and tapped him on the shoulder lightly twice.

His peircing red eyes looked up at the young girl. She looked a few years younger than himself. He rolled his eyes, and ignored her. He lifted up his guitar and began to strum again. He continued for a few minutes, then sighed.

"What do you want??" he asked, annoyed at the presence of her. He wanted to be alone not talk to her.

Wordlessly Joe sat down beside him. She watched him play for a moment before she answered his question. "Nothing," She answered calmly, completely ignoring the fact that he was annoyed at her presence. Yes, she knew he was, but she chose to ignore it.

"Then why are you talking to me??" he asked, persistant to get her to leave. HE sighed and continued to play.

Joe ignored his question and only smiled pleasantly. "You play very well. How long have you been playing?"

He looked at her, confused. No one usually cared about what he did. He turned to her, and stared for a moment.

"Uhhh.... For about two years..." he said, confused that she would even ask.

"A good one" he said quietly, and snidely. He was still not willing to talk, but slightly interested in the fact that she was talking to him.

"Interesting...." She watched him play. Thinking it would get his attention, she lifted a few of her fingers and pressed down a couple of strings.
