Lăelynn stood before the large forest, awed by the sheer size of the trees. This forest must be very old to have grown so immense. This is where all the trees on the island had likely come from. Kind of spooky though. The trees were so close together she couldn't see very far.
The little dragoness really wanted to go in and explore, having already seen most of the other forests. Chances are, she'd get lost in there. She wouldn't be able to fly up and out in case of danger and it wasn't like she could scare anything with her dragon form. Lăelynn began to dart in and out of the trees at the edge, trying to see what was in there without going too far in.

Jett frequented the Forbidden Forest, as all monsters seemed to. Usually, when he traveled its depths, he was in the form of his dog and sometimes even his Skinwalker form. Both matched the tone much better than his smiling human body.

When he spotted a cute girl, darting in and out of the woods as though she were afraid, he shifted to that human body and stepped out, waving her over. "Hey there, cutie! What are you doing in a place like this? Don't you know the Forbidden Forest is dangerous for soft girls like you?"

Laelynn swiveled around to the source of the voice to see a very tall man. She smiled and skipped over to him, hopeful that he could help her not get lost. The dragoness stopped directly in front of him and gave him her best friendly smile.

"My name is Laelynn Yueliang. I really wanted to go explore in there since i haven't been there yet but I was worried about getting lost. You look like you could help with that though. Do you come here often? What's your name? How long have you been on the island? How do people get here if they can't fly? Can you bring me through the forest? Why is it dangerous?"

"Woah, woah, girlie. That's a lot of questions." Jett laughed, rubbing the back of his neck and holding up a finger for every question he answered. "Firstly, a pleasure to meet you Laelynn, my name is Jett Lavelle. I do come here often. I've been on the island since, Christ, uh, twelve years. I came here when I was fifteen. Most people get a letter and come by boat. Yes, I can show you around the forest. It's dangerous because there are lots of mutant, random shit in there."

He grinned and then winked at the cute girl. "It's called the Forbidden Forest, mostly because that makes it sound scary. See how dark it is? Spooky, right? Anyway, yeah I can guide you around. Not much to see back there." He held out his hand, offering it to her. "Did I answer all your questions or do you have more?"

Lăelynn looked awed as she listened to Jett's answers. Twelve years was a long time to spend in one place. She hadn't spent more than three days in the same place since Yuè had taught her about the strings. The dragoness peered around Jett to look into the forest. What did 'mutant random shit' look like? Was it just living piles of excrement? Lăelynn scrunched up her nose at that. If it was, she'd be able to smell it. Lăelynn started bouncing on her toes, eager to find out what it really was.

"I don't think it's scary at all. It looks like something straight out of a fantasy novel where you find the really mean demons and creatures. It's really cool! I want to see all of it, even if it is boring."

Lăelynn cheerfully grabbed Jett's hand and started tugging him towards the forest.

"Nah, no Demons in there. All the scary, nasty Demons are right in town." Jett laughed, before his hand was taken and he was yanked into the forest with a surprised yelp. Jett went willingly after realizing they were going on their little adventure. He slipped in front of her and took the lead, deeper and deeper into the darkness of the forest.

Once inside, it was cool, and the trees above created a canopy of gnarled branches, keeping those under them from seeing the sky. The Forbidden Forest, unlike the regular woods everywhere else on the island, was deathly silent, the type of silence that came with a constant hunt.

In the darkness, it was hard to see any creatures, but when they were seen, they were hideously deformed and ready to kill anything in their path. In the distance, there was the screech of an unknown creature.

Jett motioned to a swamp in front of them. "Nasty leeches in there that suck away magic."

Lăelynn looked around, astonished by how well the forest kept out light. She'd never seen anything quite so eerie before and she loved it. Even the silence, which made her feel like something was going to pounce on top of her. But Lăelynn wasn't afraid. Of course not. She had Jett, he'd keep her safe.

The dragoness inched a little closer to the swamp, undeterred by the ominous screeching. She peered over into it, curious about how such creatures could exist.

"How do they do it? Take your magic I mean. Do they suck it out through your blood?"

"Pretty much. I mean, it's more complicated than that, I'm sure, but I don't know the science behind it all." Jett moved to the swamp and dipped his hand inside. When he withdrew it, a leech was connected to the back of his hand. He inspected it, then showed it off to Lae before peeling it away from his skin in a bloody mess. "Yuck."

The forest had gone silent with the hunt and Jett perked up, glancing around. He was stiff and quiet, ready. He wanted to grin, but he didn't. More than anything, the Skinwalker wanted to transform, but he'd never been one for giving away his hand too early.

In the distance, the screaming of a little girl sounded.

Laelynn made a face at the bloody mess made when Jett removed the leech. They were curious creatures indeed, but not exactly pretty. The dragoness searched her pockets for a handkercheif, using the stark white fabric square to wipe Jett's hand clean.

She paused and looked up at Jett when he seemed to have heard something. Lynn wanted to ask what was going on, why the silence had even thickened, why Jett had gone so tense. Gently, the dragoness tugged on Jett's sleeve, only to shriek and cling to his side. Her voice was clearly panicked.

"WHAT WAS THAT? WHO WAS THAT? SHOULD WE GO HELP OR IS SHE ALREADY BEING EATEN?"

Jett hid a frown when Lae dabbed at the mess created by the leech. He was more than excited when she was distracted by the foreboding screaming in the distance. A long, loud wailing. There was the specious beckoning for help -- insistent, terrified, and just slightly off.

"That's no woman," Jett responded with a light huff of laughter. "That, my girl, is a Wendigo on the hunt. Better if you don't go running toward it, or you might be the next voice the creature uses. What did I tell you? The Forbidden Forest is a dangerous place and most of the monsters here like feasting on lovely little girls like yourself."

He laid a hand on her shoulder in the hopes of quieting her, as he returned to listening intently for any possible sounds. "That wasn't even a mile off. Who knows, it could be hunting us."
