It was polite yes, it had been nice to ask Wess to eat with her, but it seemed now that he was making up excuses to not. It wasn't like he had to even eat with the, it was mostly because Claire was starved for someone else to talk to. After only talking to Attel most of the time, their conversations had ran dry a long time ago. Even while they hunted, the wolf and her stayed silent, only talking if it benefited their activity.

As they walked, Claire kept her silence, glancing every so often at Wess to see if he wasn't going to eat her. For some reason that still weighed on her mind, though it was doubtingly a lot less of an issue now. It wasn't like she even trusted the beast, so keeping her guard up wasn't that crazy of an idea.

As they arrived, she nodded almost motionlessly as she grabbed the buck by one of its legs and dragged it in. If the Wendigo were to come in, it wouldn't end well for him. She pulled it a for a while, until she felt the presence of the wolves come around her. 'Stupid girl, you cannot be friends with such a beast.' One of them echoed in her head. 'You are a disgrace on our tribe human wolf girl.' Another, older wolf said. Claire only shrugged as she stepped away. Out loud, she said this to them. "I do not care what you think of me, you lesser beings. I am your leader and your savior. Would you rather that the Wendigo came and snatched up your children and mates? I fought the beast for you all, as well as for my own life." She lifted down her loose shirt. "I will not be told what to do by any of you, not even Attel can make be weaver on this fact." She was only a few meters away from Wess as she watched the wolves slowly back off. "Wess is my friend. If you hurt him, you will die by my hand." And with a huff, she turned and faced the Wendigo, showing him a greedy smile. "They won't bother you anymore."

Wess winced when Claire suggested to the wolves that Wesley would eat their children and their lovers. Animals didn't even appeal to him, and she was talking about him as if he hadn't just helped her, not once but twice. Wess had forgotten why he was nervous about people, but Claire was doing a good job of reminding him.

"Oh," Wesley said, not minding the wolves in the den, "I didn't fear them bothering me before. I could kill a wolf, even a whole pack of wolves if I had to. The Forbidden Forest has scarier things than wolves, Claire." Things like him, evidently.

He looked off, awkward, trying not to meet Claire's eyes. He didn't want her to now that she had hurt his feelings. Was this how it would always be? No matter how hard he tried, he'd never manage to get people to like him? He understood them not turning their backs on him; that made sense, but to disdain him? Even after he helped them.

Wesley wasn't typically aggressive or aggressively leaning, but he bared his teeth at Claire and the pack behind her. He had been nice and still they thought they could trample all over him, encroach on his territory, and even attack him. This wasn't a matter of dominance; it was one of decency.

"I want to be your friend Claire, or at least on good terms with you, but I won't be treated this way. I'm not just some piece of shit on your shoe. If this is how it's going to be, stay out of my territory, or I'll kill you."

Had she really pissed him off that easily? Geez, was he ever a moody little thing. One minute she's trying to help him get some good rep with the wolves, and the next it looked like he wants to kill her. Was Claire ever going to catch a break? "I wasn't tr-" She stopped, getting frustrated with her situation. "I didn't mean it like that Wess. Fuck." He was getting on her nerves when she was so desperately trying to be friends with the beast. The silence between them was long and awkward, which made it clear that she had hurt his feelings a lot more than she had intended. And just at the wrong moment too, she was starting to like him.

When he threatened her at the end she only gave him a unamused look and chuckled as if it was all some big joke to her. Before she replied, the wolves that had gotten too close got a threatening mental message, making them wimper back into the den. After a few seconds, they were all gone. "And I am the wolf queen." Her pride only shined for a moment before she started to laugh again, ending in a raspy sigh. "Who am I kidding? They don't care if I'm in love with you or hate you, they will most likely do what they want. I'll hurt them though, if they get close to you." Again, another subtle compliment. "You tried to kill me already, yeah?" She didn't bother to show the marks to him. "I mean if you want to kill the only person that is trying to make an effort to be your friend then go ahead. Though I think you're just a moody little thing like me." Her look was not a good one as she started to walk back to her den. "I mean you don't have many choices Wess, so either love me or hate me." Her hand waved him to follow. As she passed though, her hand loosely wrapped around two of his clawy fingers. "Which one will it be?"

Wess wanted to be angry at her suggesting she was all he could get. That she was all he would ever get. But she had said she was in love with him? Or that she hated him? Wesley was confused, and he didn't have a whole hell of a lot of time to think about it all before she was laughing (none too warmly) and closed the distance between them to hold two of his fingers.

She was so cold, and it hurt, but at the same time, Wess felt a heat building in his stomach that he hadn't felt since, shit, he couldn't remember how long. Sulkily, Wesley said, "I'm not moody. All you've done was insult me and hurt me and now, even as you try to stand up for me, you're insulting me. Claire, you're not a very nice girl." He frowned.

The Wendigo leaned down, so his face was in hers. He narrowed his eyes, suspicious. "Why do you want to be my friend, Claire? You don't even like me. Is it because you can't kill me? Is it because you're also desperate?"

"You don't have to tell me that." Claire knew that she wasn't a nice person. No, she didn't need some Wendigo to tell her that. Her attitude was out of control. She had issues with trusting people, liking people and how to properly how them both. Claire was a mess of a girl and she fully knew that she didn't deserve this Wendigo at all. Her heart and mind said another thing though. "I know full well I'm a monster too."

Though, when his face got close to hers, instead of pulling away in fear, her face was lighting up for some weird reason. Was she... Blushing? Because of him? How stupid was she? "Because we're the same." Was all she really wanted to say. Taking a breath, her eyes stayed on him. "We are both lonely, because we obviously don't know how to interact with people." Her grip tightened as she pulled another finger into her hand. "Yeah, I'm desperate okay? Is that the big reveal that you wanted to hear? The poor little wolf girl that has been back-stabbed and betrayed her entire life is desperate for someone that will understand her. Big whoop." There was a sigh as she causally closed her eyes. "I never said I didn't like you, but it's hard to get past you, you know, trying to kill me. It's not very romantic."

"Maybe if you want people to stop backstabbing you, you have to stop backstabbing them?" Wesley said, motioning to his wounded back. It was barely a scratch on him, his skin was too thick for it to have done much damage, but the intent was what mattered.

Then she said... romantic? Why was she on about that? What did romance have to do with anything? Did Claire want to be with him? But she barely knew him! And she'd hated him all of their time together. "It isn't about romance, Claire! It's about decency. I made a mistake, I know. I'm bound by my hunger; I can never stop or... sate myself. You have to let things go. If you don't want me around, just say so, but don't take your anger out on me and only keep me around because you're lonely. I deserve better than that, and so do you."

"I'm just soooo used to literally stabbing people, yes." She snarled at the man. "It's hard to get out of your old ways. SO sorry if I'm not to keen on automatically liking you as a person." Her words had a bite to them as she spoke. Claire was not at all happy. Even then though, she felt bad for having stabbed the otherwise gentle spoken beast just because. Her habits of being mean needed to stop.

"It was fucking sarcasm, ever heard of that?" No, there was no romance here, and if Claire even liked him a little bit, it was far off from them holding hands. With that thought, she let got of his hand and shook her own. "And I'll eventually let it go; but how to you know that hurting people isn't my way of showing someone I like them, hm?" She teased as her body went back at few paces. "You're someone I'd like to have on my side, is that enough?" Claire asked as she stuck her hands behind her back. "You know nothing of me to make assumptions, and the same goes for me."

Wess shook his head. "No, Claire, it isn't enough. I'm not one of your wolves. I won't be at your beck and call, and I'm not good to have in a fight. I'm really not." Wesley backed away too. "I have to go... eat. Hunt. When you truly want to talk and play nice, you can find him until then, have fun with your wolves."

With that, the Wendigo darted off into the trees and the night, fully intending to hunt. Claire would find the boar at the den later that night, just before morning struck.
