His dis-concern for her falling as no surprise to her. The girl only grumbled as he pushed herself up. "No, I'm not anymore." There was only a bit of tone in her voice as she got on all fours and sulked closer to the clearing. "The weakest..." Her eyes darted from each of the animals. Back and forth, until she stumbled upon a doe that had a slight limp in her back left leg, towards the huff. "The one right there, she has a limp in her back left leg. Seems that she hurt it somehow." She paused and observed them even more. "Other than that, of course the young ones." Though she wasn't very fond of hurting smaller ones like that.

"Unless you think we can go for the buck?" It would have been a tricky thing for her to do alone, but to have this beast by her side made her feel like anything was possible. "It's up to you, considering you're a lot faster than me." Even with his speed, Claire could sure try her beast to keep up. Claire patted herself down and cursed under her breath. Her bow and arrows were not wit her, only her knife. "How are we going to handle this Wessy?" Claire wanted to give him a name he didn't like.

Claire would be hard-pressed to find a nickname Wesley didn't like. Wess, Wessy, Wessy-poo, all and any of those worked well enough for him. It seemed most things rolled off him like water on a duck. "The buck, yes," Wess said, voice distracted and joyful. Wesley wasn't human enough to feel bad for eating baby animals. Maybe at one point, he was, but that part of him had long since died. Just as the part that was more flustered around people he liked had.

Wesley didn't feel the need to explain his tactic to Claire. Instead, the Wendigo used his burst of speed to beeline to the buck. It looked up just as he grabbed its head with his claws and tore into its neck, snapping it to the side. The rest of the deer leaped and scampered away. Wess crouched on the deer and bit into its neck on reflex, tearing away the skin there to ensure its death.

For a moment, Wesley was lost in the blood and excitement of the hunt. His heart hammered in his chest, and his hair stood on end. There were a thousand things on his mind, but in his head, he was entirely alone, breath heavy and labored. The hiss of his breathing made an eerie sound in the otherwise quiet forest.

Claire waited for a few seconds, to see what brilliant plan the Wendigo had for them... Until he left her. Now, Claire knew that people ran away from her regularly, but this was totally different. The look of disdain on her face was a clear definition in her features that she was not happy at all. The little hunter enjoyed it too much to have it taken away by some beast. Claire wanted to catch the buck, she wanted to claim it. But now, all she could express was anger.

"Nice move asshole." Her once subtly soft demeanor was now gone as she moved over to Wess. Her face was filled with dread that someone had stepped on her pride and shattered what she held dear. This man had ruined too many things for her. Though the kill had been quick, she didn't want the thing all over it. As Claire got close enough to touch him, there was a weird sound that came from him. "Alright there show off." She unsheathed her knife and effortlessly plunged it into his back, just a bit right of the spine. She pulled it out before hopping back a few steps encase he lashed out. "Good job only getting one, but you did it fast." The compliment seemed very hidden behind her hostile voice.

Before she could even pull the knife out of his back, WSess caught her wrist and tried to throw her over his shoulder and onto the deer. If he succeeded the Wendigo would snarl and bare his teeth, but then, looking at her and not smelling the human on her, Wesley remembered that they were not enemies. It was hard when blood was running down his back, and she had attacked him, but he knew...

Wess shook his head and flung himself away from her, shaking his head several times. He pulled at his hair. She was a friend. Friend friend. "I was trying to help you!" Wess snarled, half irked and half saddened. "Why did you attack me? Do you just want people to hurt you? Look, I get it. Your pride is important to you, but pride without intelligence makes for a dead girl!"

He stumbled away more, growling and snarling as she shook his head. Wess didn't want to lose himself. He didn't want to be a monster. Tears streamed down his face.

Claire regretted this. As she was flinged around like a rag doll by the Wendigo, she kept herself like a brick and let it happen to her. She deserved it; she was being a bitch and he was only trying to help her. Oh god did she feel bad. It was like a flood of emotions that rushed through her. How many times had he been mistreated like this, how many times had he been abused just because? She frowned, even though it was subtle enough for him not to notice.

As he backed up from her and ranted, she felt even worse. Why had her pride been so important? There was no need to let such a petty thing get in the way of their... Their what? They weren't enemies or acquaintances anymore. They were friends. The thought baffled Claire as she stood upright and looked at the beast. Every word he had said stung for some reason. Maybe it was because they were so alike, and that she understood all the pain he must feel inside. Though, she hadn't expected him to cry. That was the last straw for her. The wolf girl ran full speed at him, blindly wrapping her arms around his chest, and nuzzling her face against his dirty fur. "I-I'm sorry." She uttered out, as Claire hated apologizing. But she wanted this beast, her friend, to know that she felt his pain too. He was just a big baby.

The hug helped to bring Wesley back to the present. His mind was a dark place with a tiny voice that sang how hungry he was. Always so hungry. He was damn hungry now, too, but his instinct still wasn't kicking up, thank God.

Without thinking about it, Wess hugged Claire to him, right with his hands resting on her upper back. He hadn't had a hug in a very long time. It was hard to remember how warm they were. Warm and safe. Wess found himself lifting Claire off the ground briefly before releasing her and sniffling. No, he wasn't crying or tearing up anymore. He smiled, then, remembering his sharp teeth, covered his mouth.

"Sorry. We should get that buck back." He looked over at it and winced at the state the dead creature was in. He'd done a number on it.

As the tall man pulled her in closer, Claire only closed her eyes to let him embrace her. Oh my, it had been so long since she had gotten a hug; a year or more sounded about right. Not that she was as deprived as the Wendigo for love, but she needed it too. This embrace, even though it would be seen as dangerous and strange to outsiders, this hug meant everything to her. When he lifted her up for a few seconds, a child-like laugh came out. As Wess let her go, she nodded before trying around and smiling brightly. The animal could not see how happy that had made her.

"Yeah..." Claire really didn't feel like carrying it around. Once her grin was gone, she looked back at Wess and then took a few steps towards the dead corpse. "I can't carry this on my own, that's for sure..." There were many ways that this could go down. The girl tapped her foot to some rhythm in her head as she thought. "Could you carry it? I can run with you if I'm also too much to carry." Though she wouldn't be able to fully keep up, Claire would definitely try to. "Should we just hand it over to them, all willy nilly?" Her index finger poked the chest of the buck. "Or, maybe we should just keep it for ourselves?" The girl flashed an evil grin to the man.

Wesley didn't understand. "Is that a joke or do you really want to keep it?" For themselves? As if they would be eating together? Wess had never eaten with another person like... like this monster he was. The idea of it was both worrying and appealing. "I thought you had to hunt so the pack would not be angry?" Wesley was not a pack animal, so he was uncertain how the pecking order went there.

"Are you part of them? And if so, what is your rank? Wolves are usually family units, parents, and their children, so it's odd that you're with them." He stalked her to the deer, hunched low as he normally was. Wess reached out and hauled the deer over one of his shoulders. It was a large buck, and he struggled to keep it balanced on his bony shoulder. Oh, he hadn't thought this part out.

"We could keep the boar? I -- They have more fat so they must be tastier to you, right?" To Wess, it didn't matter. He ate too fast to taste any of it.

"They are just little puppies that care only about food." That summed it up rather well for them, that was for sure. Yes, she cared a lot able the wolves that stayed here, as they were her family, but sometimes they were so needy. They listened to her even more than Attel most of the time. It almost made them like their mother. No, she was the father that was once their child. "I am kind of like their protector." Was what she settled on as she looked at Wess. "They raised me but once I got old enough to mature and be my own person, I'm like an overbearing mother with a pack of 3 year olds."

"You're right..." She paused and looked at the buck before her eyes were locked with his. "SO we drop the buck off at the den, I'll say a few swears and make sure they leave you alone, and then we can go back to my house and have a cook out with the boar?" She would have to make sure that her and Attel got a few pieces in before he devoured it all. "Unless you have some other plans Mr.Wendigo." It wasn't like she needed Wess to come with her to eat, but after he had helped, she kind of felt like she needed to. Damn the polite side of her.

Wesley wasn't sure what had changed to make Claire hate him less (or not at all). He blushed, flustered. "Erm, I could help you take the deer most of the way there. I don't really eat animals, at least, I don't like to. They don't do much for me, but sometimes they're all I got, I guess. I need to hunt..." He was quiet, letting that sink in. "But I would love to eat with you, Claire!"

Wess set the buck so that it was over both of his shoulders like sheep herders carried baby lambs. He smiled, albeit coyly, at her and looked away, so she didn't have to see his sharp teeth.

He was true to his word, making a brisk walk for the direction of her and her pack's den. For the most part, Wesley enjoyed silence when he walked the forest. Always, he listened for the sounds of anyone out and about. He was becoming aware that he might not get a good meal tonight because he'd helped Claire. Not a lot worried Wesley, but that did. It wasn't hard for him to starve and it hurt when he went more than a day without eating. God, how everything hurt.

When they got to the den, Wess threw the buck on the ground and nuzzled it closer to Claire, backing away slowly. "Do you want me to wait out here?" His voice was hesitant, uncertain. He'd stay and go to her home with her, even if it meant he'd be without the flesh he so desired tonight.
