"Makes sense to me." Shay shrugged. "Some creatures around here are older than that. It's not really uncommon. Why don't you think you can be that old?"
"Are you serious?" He asked, dumbfounded. "I mean... How could I be..." He sat down on the ground where he stood. "I'm... two... And... I mean, look at me. Theres no way I..." He shook his head. "I don't remember... Anything before two years ago..." He mumbled something about 'five hundred years' while looking down at the ground. Kenta shook his head and looked up at her. He seemed... paniced? "I... had almost 500 years of life I... don't remember? Does that even make sense to you?"
Shay bit her lower lip thoughtfully. His unease was making her uncomfortable. She was only twelve, how was she supposed to know how to deal with any of this? Tentatively, Shay sat beside him, reached up and laid her hand on his shoulder. "Maybe you can just start new?"
Kenta was holding his legs close to his body, resting his head on his knees. He would look over to her silently for a few moments before shaking his head and sinking back into himself. "That's... what I've been doing, I guess. But... but who am I then? I had a whole life... several lifetimes... And I know nothing about them..."
This wasn't a problem Shay had ever faced. She didn't know what to tell him. Well, she did. She wanted to tell him to get over it and move on; that's what everyone had to do with terrible situations. But that seemed cold, even for her, so she was silent as she patted his back as soothingly as she could.
After a while of complete silence, Kenta sighed. He shook his head and made a halfhearted smile at her. "I... Guess I can't just sit here forever, can I..?"
"You'd probably get kicked out sooner or later," Shay responded. Was she joking? She didn't sound like it. Shay stood and backed away from him. She had had enough physical contact. It seemed she was quite uncomfortable with it. "Maybe you went through something traumatic that triggered memory loss."
He sat there for a few more moments before finally getting up as well. "Well... That makes me more curious. What could have happened..?" He asked. He didn't really expect an answer.
Shay again shrugged. "Something terrible, probably. Maybe one day you'll find out, but until then, just live your life and try to stay afloat."
