Wandering Too Far Back

What time was it? Late at night, yes, midnight had yet to come however. Sumi had passed out from exhaustion, having got carried with his art, a mess of different paintings, all depicting different legends such as the Dragon Palace of Urashima Taro, or the tale of Benkei and Ushiwaka, lay scattered on his bed as he slept on the drawing desk. But what would a sentient blob of ink dream of?

He could never remember. And it had been worrying him. Weird dreams? He always remembered those. But the specific dreams he had been having right after drawing or reading about specific past legends and tales of Japan's history? He knows he had them... But nothing can be remembered. And that had been hurting his creativity.

Determined to address this issue, Sumi approached Natasha, who he has heard is a Dream Therapist... "I don't know, no matter what I have been having this dream that I can't remember at all. The random dreams are still there and I remember them as weird as they are, but these after reading about Japanese folklore and history... I know they happen but it bothers me I can't remember. This never happened before."

Natasha held a neutral expression as Sumi insisted there was something wrong. Not that she did not care for the patient's concerns; there were just not enough symptoms. She hated dismissing people, but after becoming the goddess to some not-so-bright pixies, she learned that not every problem needed direct intervention. So a boy coming in to complain that he couldn't remember his dreams wasn't of immediate worry to her.

"Do any feelings accompany the dream? This can be either what you remember feeling during the sequences or what you feel after the dream's over." At the very least if there were emotions involved in this case, then she would have reason to further investigate. Prying into people's minds like she could still somewhat freaked her out. Going into personal people's thoughts for no reason was not appealing. She had followup questions in relation to the folklore. "What specifically were you reading?" She almost wanted to be blunt and ask how it was related to the situation, but she voted against that.

Feelings? "Only frustration from not remembering it. And I felt like crying once, but couldn't even remember why. Usually I can remember any dream in such a vivid detail I can paint them, but these...", how do you paint something you can't remember of? Hypnosis, maybe? Sumi was genuinely upset by how those dreams "lasted long" and when he woke up they were simply... "Gone".

No, those dreams had to be there somewhere, maybe if someone could see them for him or somehow affect it, maybe he could remember? Or so he thought. "Hm, let's see... Urashima Taro and the Dragon Palace, Benkei and Ushiwaka, Nobunaga Oda's conquest... Oh, and Miyamoto Musashi too! Can't forget him. ... Odd thing I don't remember this happening back in Japan, when I had borrowed a book of Japanese Tales. Back then I only had dreams of the locations."

Natasha was not an expert on Japanese history or folklore, so most of that went over her head. She couldn't really connect them with any issues without Googling them, which just seemed unprofessional and not-so-godly. However, her interest was peaked at the mention of crying. Wanting to cry equaled sadness. Something about his dream made him sad. There were multiple possibilities as to why this could be. A fictional scenario that hit him hard, a blocked memory, or even some kind of forgotten message could be the culprit.

She put her hand up. "Wait. You mention crying. I assume you mean the sad kind of crying, yes?" With an anchor point to grasp onto, the goddess changed her focus.

"Not sure if it was sad, I was teary-eyed, and since I sleep alone there was no one to hear me cry and tell me if I sounded sad or something. Any guess on why this keeps happening? You look quite pensive.", was there something else to connect it? For a brief moment he put himself to thought, what could be a possible trigger for it, there were only so many things to trigger these "disappearing dreams".

And after giving enough thought, he decided to present what he suspects started it all: "The other day... Me, Junchi and Tadashi ended up touching on the subject of family. It's nothing new to me, really, I used to feel a tinge of jealousy from other kids back in Japan whenever they brought up the subject of their parents, while all I have is my big brother, who is just a human who fostered me."
