Pausing only for the sentient toy, Marcus picked up the girl with only a small amount of difficulty. "Carrying all those books around for years sure came in handy" He mumbled, moving into the hallway.

A few people stared at him carrying Kadasha, and one Nurse even tried to stop him, but he wasn't slowing down until he was certain it was safe.

Not even looking behind him, he made several twist and turns, taking the stairs instead of an elevator Becuase well, Horror movie safety, Marcus found himself outside the hospital kitchen, breathing heavily. She didn't weigh much, but even that took its toll after almost flat-out running, and he was out of breath.

((btw, changing for smaller image, not mood change))

The lights in the room flickered, shadows seeming to dance on the wall as they did. Were those limbs or just tricks of the light? A gentle tapping sprang up, irregular and from all over like the footsteps of so many small creatures.

One of the wall outlets threw off a shower of sparks. A second later the sprinklers went off, the fire alarm blaring suddenly over the sound of the heart monitor. Water showered down on everything, adding to the cold density in the air.

The flickering lights followed the pair to the kitchen, chittering voices whispering just out of the edge of peripheral vision.

Kadasha had her eyes closed all the way, she even tried to cover her exposed ear with her hand while the other held on tightly to the toy. She was panicking already with the laughing and the heart monitor going off, but everything just became much worse. It was raining on the inside, and she could hear creatures chasing them.

She wanted this to stop. She couldn't take it anymore, she cried, overwhelmed by the fear. She wanted to call out a name she didn't remember so all she managed were tears. The toy tried to wiggle out, reading to put its life on the line, but it was held back by Kadasha's weak arm. It couldn't bear the thought of taking away her only comfort.

Then suddenly, Kadasha's eyes started glowing. While she had them closed, an outline shone through, however with how she was curled up in the stranger's arms, only the toy would have been able to spot it. Two emerald wisps appeared seemingly from out of nowhere and floated around before they dropped to the floor. As soon as they hit the surface, they transformed into wolves, transparent ones seemingly made out of pure energy. Both stood in front of the girl and the stranger, snarling at whatever it was chasing them.

The toy recognized this power. It was the same one that allowed him to utter the girl's name the first time a person found them on the shore.

Once the sprinklers went off, then Marcus knew they were really in trouble. If he tried to open any of the books he had by his side in order to get a weapon, then they would get water damage, making it pointless to even try. His heart was pounding, but he put on a brave face. Kadasha was terrified and it wouldn't help if he himself was too scared to think clearly.

Too tired to run anymore, He watched the lights, and was slowly backing away from the flickering ones. "It's all over," He thought, shaking his head to remove the water settling in his hair.

Spotting the deep green wisps, Marcus was mesmerized. Watching them float around, it helped to calm his heart. The ghostly wolves were a nice touch, but where did they come from? Was it the girl? Did she have a power similar to his, but from her own imagination instead of books?

The skittering stopped as the two ethereal wolves appeared, the flickering lights stopping just short of where the two green creatures stood. It was a standoff.

The voices hidden in the shadows of the unseen creatures chirped amongst themselves, as if debating what to do next. There was a brief moment of silence and the flickering lights began to move away from the pair of people and their wolves.

The hallway grew silent as the electrical disturbances that accompanied the movement of the creatures moved around a corner.

The toy watched in awe as the wolves were successful in staving off the creatures that were hunting them, pushing the creatures back the way they came. But was that the end of it? It noticed that Kadasha's grip relaxed. At first it thought that she was just relieved, but looking back at her again, she looked to be asleep, yet she was still shaking. It wasn't clear if she was sweating profusely or it was just water from the sprinklers, but her face was still riddled with fear. Her breathing still reflected that.

One of the wolves wandered forward towards where the creatures had been in case they decided to come back, but the other turned and walked to the stranger carrying the child and her toy. It stared at him, but not in a threatening way. The wolf sat down, as if waiting for something.

That was... easy. The girl's own power seemed to have scared it away. But she was still scared, and one of the wolves was looking at Marcus funny. Why was that?

Lightly shaking the girl, He spoke softly. "Hey Kadasha, I think you did it. You scared them off." He may not believe it himself, but Marcus could still hear her breathing heavily. Not good for someone that just came out of a coma.

He softly put her on the ground. "Hey, we're okay now, no need to be scared anymore."

There was a thunderous sound from all around the pair as all of the lights in the hallways and just beyond the door behind the pair suddenly overloaded, exploding. Glass showered down mostly harmlessly all around the two people and the wolves as the area went dark.

From the dining room behind the pair, the thud of several somethings hitting the tiled floor was accompanied by a sudden soft glow. Four small, glowing creatures not unlike gerbils but with long, gangling limbs and far more eyes than they had any right to have. What was worse however was that all of them seemed to be crackling with pent up electricity.

The group of creatures let out shrill tittering noises and lunged to attack.

Despite what the stranger was doing and saying, Kadasha hadn't responded. She laid there limp, with tremors in her lips and hands. The toy wiggled its way under her hand, which twitched at its touch, but the tremor stopped. Kadasha's state was not a good one. Having exerted her powers conjuring up her protectors, she had become too exhausted to hold consciousness.

When the lights exploded, the glow from the wolves became their primary light source. They turned to where the demons materialized and met their charge with tooth and claw, seemingly unfazed by the electricity coursing through these creatures, but they did seem to fluctuate whenever, and if they managed to make contact.

Though he was expecting the creatures to come back, Marcus was not expecting the lights to burst, and scrambled to stop glass from falling on to the unconscious Kadasha.

His left hand went to his book bag, and by muscle memory, he grabbed an old sci-fi novel. Despite the glow from the wolves and oversized hamsters, he struggled to read the words he had tabbed in case of an emergency, he needed some better lighting.

Looking around, Marcus scowled. there had to be something in case of blackouts. Kitchens especially, because of the dangerous...

Pushing open the door, he burst into the kitchens, searching the dimly lit area for matches. That would have to work.
