A swing and a miss... Ignis thought to himself. Still, he missed a rust monster? That actually sounded interesting. If the old man weren't so boring the other 29 days of the month, he might have regretted bailing so often. And... what did he say after that? Six pages? Realms of...

Ignis' eyes lit up. "Now that sounds kinda interesting. Where is this... Realm of Ruins place? If I have to write six pages of nonsense, I'm gonna find a fun subject there."

His smile was genuine. A first in this class. Writing wasn't a strong suit of his but he felt he had found a good excuse for a field trip. The hands on adventurous experience he thought he would get when he signed up for the class.

Well, shit.

There was calling him by his full name, and then there was something like Master Jamston. He had to admit, it had a good ring to it, but the connotation sucked. Nine times outta ten, the teacher calling you Young Master was strict and probably old-fashioned. And those types of signature-style 'I Am Your Teacher Now Respect Me' speeches were designed to make a student feel progressively more stupid about their whole self. And really, they were doing a good job if that was the intention - Nix's sparking had increased exponentially, though his expression was still cheeky. There was no way he was dropping any of his classes for one really hard class, nor was he going to suddenly become a wizard and start to cast Flame Charms on his homework. How did one do that, actually? Mean, it couldn't involve much work... Ahem. Off-topic. Again.

"Fair enough, sir," he declared with a lazy shrug, "fair.... enough. 'Cept, y'know, I've been dealing with and training with my own powers on my own for about 5 years. So yeah. I think I deserve a little less tutelage." Or whatever it is Trent'd said.

Taking the notebook in his slightly less-sparky hands and discovering that, indeed, it was magic-fire-proof, Nix dignified the instructor with a grateful look.

Which was wiped off his face by the next words the teacher said.

Just. Freaking. Great.

At least he'd have the chance to work with the Realm of .... of... Damnit, he couldn't remember the name, but he'd read about the place in some of the class notes he hadn't burnt. Honestly? It sounded nice enough. But there was always the issue of trying to avoid Death By Deadly Creature, and if not that, then Death By 6-Page Essay. Nix's face, however, still stayed in a somewhat miffed expression. At least he was somewhat skilled in the writing department - his sister had long had an interest in it.

Oh well - at least it'd be more interesting than a lecture for the millionth time about the dangers of fairy dust or something. Realm of Ruins, Ignis had namedropped for him. Right. That place. Yeah. "Alright, sure. Different creatures, two months, 6 page deathtra - I mean essay - Realm of Ruins. Sounds like a plan, sir."

These two did not quite hear anything he just said, selective hearing at it's finest to be sure. Though it did seem that Nix did hear more then Ignis did. Turning first to Ignis this time he narrowed his eyes a little. "The Realms of OUTER Ruin are the external planes of existence parallel to the Material Plane of Ruin. I'm specifically saying Outer Ruin for the Realm of Ruin is a somewhat generic place when it comes to the diversity of it's inhabitants. You would not last two minutes going to such a place without proper knowledge. Which I'd like to remind you, if you pay attention to my classes you would know how to be prepared to going to an Outer Realm."

After that Trent turned a more gentle grandfatherly look at Nix. "Nix, when you go a day without learning anything new then it is a day wasted. You can never not learn more unless you stop trying. Personal study only gets one so far. In my multitudes of millennia of my life the only time I've wasted is when I've slept." True Trent thought to himself. When he slept it was for a couple hundred years at a time if he wasn't careful.

"Now both of you, all the information you will need is here in the class room or you can find copies of the same books in the library. If you need any assistance do not hesitate to ask me. Again I expect these papers on my desk two months from now. This gives each of you enough time to write it without it impacting your own studies." He turned his gaze to Ignis again. "That is if you even do the assignment."

Whoa. Well, that grandfatherly look kind threw him for a loop. For all the sass he'd given his teacher, Nix didn't expect to see this sort of grandfatherly look. Huh.

And, the guy had kind of a point - how else did Nix learn to keep the coffee pot hot with just his hands? A little grin, as he remembered the fiascoes in the early days of his powers - he'd bean pretty clumsy. Still was.

But still, really. Sleep was still something he wanted but didn't get... like many other things. Wanted to get as much as possible of the stuff. And plus, he learned a lot everyday as it was - he was on an island where there were spider people, ghosts, people who were actual goddesses and gods. What's not to learn from that?

"Uhhh... yeah. Um, yeah. You're right, sir. But still. I don't think extra tutelage'd be good for the schedule, yeah? What with sleep, classes, and life in between - gets kinda hectic." Awkward laugh. "Anyways. Yeah, that'll be done." In two weeks? No. In two months? If procrastination kicked his ass again, no. A sigh escaped as he leaned back further in his chair. Or seat. Or whatever he was sitting on.
"Sweet. So this counts as extra credit, yeah?

Ignis smirked and stood, replying as he walked over to the window.

"We'll see old man. Who knows, I might go to this Outer Ruin place and die since I'm so clueless. Be out of your hair though, wouldn't I?"

He gave a cheeky glance back before opening the window. He then turned and sat on the windowsill, leaning back out the window.

"So, is that all for today? Not gonna summon me mid fall again, are you? At least I wasn't mid performance this time..."

Looking at Nix he nodded. "All of those are needed things for young minds, but sometimes take a little less here and there will mean a more balanced life for everyone. You young ones tend to think you must do everything now not realizing that you have more time then you think in these lands. You might need to find something to sacrifice now you can then grow faster than if you had crammed more in a shorter period of time... But no this is not simply extra credit. This is another assignment, if you pass than it will boost your grade and give you some breathing room. If you fail than it tells me that you do not want to be in my class anymore." He let the rest of that explanation trail off. It was really self explanatory.

But when Ignis spoke up his gaze turned glacier cold and he almost glared at the young man. "You would first need to understand the Ley Lines as well as I for you to start choosing where you go. If you would just listen to my lectures you could be prepared to travel to such places without much worry. But you want things to be simple and just fall into your LAP. Yet you don't even have the attention span to learn Traveling. Master Astrum if you do not finish this assignment I shall be failing you from my class. Understood?" as Trent was speaking his anger was slowly rising, the scales at the corner of his eyes began to expand and appear on more of his face. Each scale a different color. Everything from Void black to the most brilliant white.

((Sorry this took so long. Life and such))

"Yeah, yeah. But then you wouldn't have assigned me this. Kinda backward thinking, don't you think?"

Ignis was enjoying getting on the old mans nerves. He almost considered sticking around for more of this banter. However, places to go, shows to put on.

"Surely I'll figure it out... Or die. Should be fun either way, really."

He leaned back out the window, adding one more thing before letting go;

"However it goes, enjoy the show."

And then he fell. A moment passed before he could be seen on the back of a large bird-like construct, headed back toward the city.

Oh fuck. This was an actual assignment. A make-up one, probably. But still. An honest-to-god assignment. Ohhhh Gods, he was in trouble. Okay. Alright. Breathe. Don't catch ANYTHING on fire. Don't do it.
"Uhhh... Mr. Trent? I can, uh, come back anytime to ask questions... Right?" He really, really hoped so. That other kid, cool as he was, seemed like he didn't really care that he'd be failing, but Nix couldn't throw away his shot like that. Otherwise it was back to the assholes back home who would call him names and stuff.
And, Nix couldn't deny, Trent was kinda freaking him out - his scales were changing color, and the expression on Trent's face was just... Wow, it was pretty scary.
Speaking of, the dude in question kinda just... Fell out the window. Holy crap - Nix was this close to jumping out after him to catch him (although with the way his hands had been it might have been for the best - he would have burned Ignis' ankles, heheh), when the guy landed on some sort of - it looked like a bird made out of light.
DUDE. Now THAT was cool. And after Trent's freakout, he was half-tempted to go ahead and join him.
"Uuuhhhh... Anyways I gotta go but thanks for the assignment keep in touch hahahahaokbye". It was one of those sentences that was very rushed, as he took a step back, a smile forcing its way onto his face as he stepped back a bit more.
Gods, this day had gone weird, fun, but scary, fast.
