Wait, so, what are we doing?

The library was quiet. So quiet that it made Takashi's ears strain for any sound of human life. He wanted to hear hushed whispers, or groans of agitation from the other students. And yet all he could here was the soft muted rustle of the girl the next table over turning a page and taking notes. It felt like the whole place was devoid of life.

Takashi's head was on the table, his chin resting directly on top of a decimal table of some kind--he really wasn't sure what it was supposed to be--while his eyes were looking everywhere except down at the word problem he was supposed to be tackling. Word problems were his least favorite, because they required some form of reading comprehension, whereas numbers were straightforward.

If it was just a bunch of numbers, he could take a stab at it.

Under the table, his leg bounced incessantly, causing the table to jitter slightly. He wanted to go outside and do something else. Sitting in place for more than a few minutes was just not his style. The strongest in the world had to be a man of action, not a man of sitting down practicing long division.

He sighed. "I don't get this problem.... maybe we should take a break."

Being usually a truthful person, Pluto was correct in asserting that he had nothing else better to do. School, for all intensive purposes, was utterly useless to him. He showed up, aced a test, and went back to his dorm. He wasn't talented at the material. He just knew it. Which was why what he was doing was the first challenge he's had in awhile.

Since he didn't really learn anything, it would be difficult to relay his strategy for obtaining his information to someone else. Takashi was struggling with some material, and the more Pluto thought about it, the more he honestly wanted to help. For both their sakes. If there was one thing he needed to learn, it was cooperating with other people and putting his omniscience to use.

In saying that, he was patient. His glazed-over stare was nearly lifeless as he watched Takashi try to learn something new. In his mind, he formulated a way to figure out how to explain it to him in a way he could relate. His hands were folded over themselves on the table, which jostled slightly with every bounce of Takashi's leg. Other than that, there wasn't a noise to be heard. Perhaps that's why Pluto tolerated this place. If only they were alone.

When Takashi finally spoke, Pluto blinked for the first time in a few minutes. He spoke as well, his retort coming out just as quickly as his declaration of giving up. ”Try harder.” He muttered, before leaning his head over the page to properly see it. In a flash, the numbers of the answers burned into his brain with acute sharpness. His cheek twitched, before placing a finger on the answer box. ”Everyone has a different learning method. Some people are visual, some prefer audio cues, and some prefer getting hands on.” He looked up at him, his lips pulled taught in a straight line as they barely moved as he spoke. ”You're hands on. I know it. You like to get up and do, rather than sit and ponder. So think about decimals this way. Think about how much you run in a span of five minutes. Let's say five miles.” Sticking with easy numbers, at first.

”The five miles totals one race. Each mile is a decimal of that total race. If you take one, and divide it by the five miles it contains, the decimal is... Point two. That means after running a mile of the five mile race, you have completed 20 percent of the total race." His finger asserted the point by tapping the box. ”Does that make sense, as an example?” Then, he thought of an idea. ”Or, would you rather see the example for yourself?”

Even though Pluto had been the one to offer his services when it came to tutoring him, World's Strongest couldn't shake the feeling that him being there was an imposition on the much smarter boy. After all, how many times would he be forced to explain the same things to him? How long would it be before Pluto's patience ran out, and he deemed him to be a lost cause? That's what everyone did, after all, and he had no reason to think that he would be any different.

Takashi sat up and rolled his shoulders and his neck, working out the cricks in his muscles. They'd been stationary too long, and when he was stationary too long, things got weird.

Looking down at the problem from this new perspective didn't really help, even though he'd hoped a little distance would put things in perspective. All it did was highlight how much he couldn't understand of what the question wanted from him. Was he supposed to do math? Or was he just supposed to articulate an idea? Word problems were dumb.

He listened to Pluto's explanation about miles and time, and he furrows his brow. "How can you divide 1 by 5? Isn't five too large to be put into one? That's like.... trying to fit five sausages into one hot dog bun."

His eyes followed Pluto's finger as he pointed out the box containing the 0.20 number, and all Takeo could do was tilt his head and squint. 1, 5, and 2? Where were these numbers coming from? It felt like Pluto was just making up information to confuse him. Although, the information could be one-hundred percent legitimate and Takashi would still think he was being tricked.

"I dont get it...."

The feeling he received was instantaneous. Takashi didn’t get his explanation. But Pluto didn’t look phased. This was certainly a challenge, and as the other tried to wrap his brain around these concepts Pluto tried to comprehend how to convey them to him. When Takashi interjected, Pluto immediately with a solution.

”No, that’s not it.” He stated blankly. ”It’s like taking one sausage and cutting it into five pieces. It still equals one sausage, but it’s separated into different parts. Therefore it still fits in the bun, though I’d imagine it to be messy… ” A bit of a faint disgusted look crossed his features. He hated sausage. The fact that it was mushed up remains of the innards of an animal… Gross. Who knows what was in the ones in the cafeteria… God, he didn’t want to start thinking about it lest his brain get sidetracked analyzing nutritional facts or bacteria contents or something.

”Takashi, how do you usually learn? Your knowledge of physical prowess surpasses so many of those here. How do you know what you’re strongest at?” Perhaps he’d get somewhere.

Taking one sausage and cutting it up into five pieces....?

He tried to imagine that. It certainly seemed possible enough to cut a sausage into five pieces, especially if it was a big sausage, so that checked out. The two still made no sense to him, but he at least understood fractions on a conceptual level. Just think of chopped up sausage. Which was something he did a lot anyway because hey, who didn't like sausage?

Judging by the way Pluto's features crinkled ever so slightly, maybe he didn't like sausage.

He scratched his head, looking pensive at his next question.

"Well, physical stuff and studies are different, you know? I'm always aware of my body, since i trained all the time with my Master and my friend. So I guess that kind of stuff comes more naturally to me?" It was clear he didn't quite understand what he was saying himself.

"It's like, I don't know. When I'm working out or doing stuff with my body, everything feels clear and stuff. But when I'm working, my brain feels all muddy."

A shrug. "That probably sounds stupid, but... I don't know, I just feel better when I'm moving around and stuff."

The answer Takeo gave him was something he figured out already. His learning style, though different from Pluto’s, was something he understood. Already his mind was formulating plans.

”Yes.” He stated, looking up from the paper to cast his fish-like eyes on Takeo’s. ”You are what they call a kinesthetic learner. You take in information by getting up and doing. Through body before mind.” He hoped the explanation served him well enough. Without saying anything, Pluto took the homework Takeo was assigned and read it over. Seemingly he skimmed it, though in reality each bit of information was embedded into his skull. He nodded slightly.

”I know what to do.” He stated simply, and stood up from the chair. His movements were almost silent. ”Let’s go out to the sports fields. I believe I know a way to incorporate your strengths into a learning mechanism that works for you.” He knew the track and outdoor exercise equipment was open from activity for a few hours, since it was a bit foggy outside and it had rained the day prior. It would be the perfect way to help finish his homework, Pluto thought.
