Oblivious to what her husband was doing, Scarlet moved a piece, unaware that she was playing right into his trap.

Ivan made his trap more complex, delighted that Scarlet was so inexperienced, but not showing it. He planned on making his trap more and more elaborate over the next five moves, capable of defeating his wife in only a few moves.

((Sorry I haven't replied sooner. I've been very busy, unfortunately. :( ))

Scarlet glanced at the cat across from her and moved a piece without really looking at what she was doing(her mind was on other things). But a second later she bit back a gasp and hurriedly moved the piece back and moved a different piece forward, hoping her husband wouldn't notice.

((No problem! Real life comes first!))

Ivan grinned wide. With his next move, he could demolish the majority of Scarlet's pieces. He reached for the piece... But had a change of heart. He decided to let Scarlet win. He moved a piece into position for her to capture.

Scarlet, now paying attention, saw what he had done, and smiled softly. She jumped his piece and saw that he could now jump her's.

((Just do me a favor: Don't stress yourself.))

Ivan pretended not to notice, moving another piece into her way to set up a double-jump that would bring her a king. He tilted his head, feeling good about what he had done. He faked a surprised expression. "Oops." He said plainly.

((On a side note, my first day of school was today. I'm taking German!))

((I won't be. =D The things I was busy with this week are over now, thankfully. ))

Scarlet saw what he had done and pretended to be innocent about it all. She jumped the two pieces. She had to admit she found it slightly disappointing that he was giving the game away, instead of playing as well as he could, but she didn't say anything about it.

((That's cool! I wish I could learn German. And Latin. And Gaelic.....and countless other languages. But unfortunately I don't think they have the correct programs for homeschoolers to learn them. But I'm not sure...))

((Thank goodness; Stress kills, ya know?))

Ivan flashed a winning smile, which, admittedly, was difficult to do as a cat. He kept a piece on either side of Scarlet's king, ready to capture them the moment they tried to leave. With the king temporarily incapacitated, he moved a single piece to set up an elaborate trap. He had given Scarlet a handicap, but now he was playing near his best.

((Yes. I about got so stressed I killed myself. .....Okay, so not really. xD))

Scarlet quirked her mouth to the side and thought a moment before she moved a piece. She hoped it wouldn't aid to his trap.

Ivan smiled good-naturedly. All of the pieces were coming together, metaphorically speaking. He put one piece forward. It was the trap's activation piece; If Scarlet jumped this piece, he'd be able to capture two of hers and earn a king.
