Angelo was nervous, and he was trying his absolute hardest not to show it. He wasn't used to being nervous. Hell, there were precious few times in his life when he'd ever really had any cause to be nervous. He'd stared down the barrel of a freaking gun without feeling this nervous.

It was just an interview. He'd already managed one, and he couldn't figure out what a second interview meant. Did that mean he'd done good? Or did it mean he'd done bad? What was a second interview supposed to be testing, beyond that he wouldn't crack under pressure?

Sitting in the waiting room with his resume clutched in his hands was just making him even more nervous. Wasn't the person who was supposed to interview him here yet? The clothes he was wearing hadn't even been worn before, so they were just... well, they were a bit stiff. And scratchy. He'd much rather have been in a nice pair of jeans rather than dress clothes, but he was trying his absolute hardest to look presentable.

He was pretty sure that in most cases, answering 'yes' to 'have you ever been involved in a felony in your home country' was going to be an immediate no.

Kiara was just as nervous as Angelo if not moreso. She recently rose to the position of Police Commander. While she had a lot of experience as an assassin, her time as a cop was different from that. This position in general was very different from her old occupation. As an assassin, she mostly worked alone. She was trained to take down targets and acquire objects of importance under the orders of her superior. While she did have contact with those in her field, she rarely worked with them. Now she was an officer of the law in the position to boss around others. It freaked her out really. Was she truly clarified to do this?

Still she kept a calm exterior. There was no use for panic. If there was anything that her previous occupation taught her, it was professionalism. A panicking interview did not meet the professional requirement. Her eyes glanced at the time. Crap, she was supposed to let him in already! She checked her desk. It was meticulously clean and organized. Everything in the office was in perfect alignment. She checked her mirror. Yes, she definitely looked presentable. The catwoman took a deep breath and walked over to the door.

Her hand grabbed the knob and gently turned it. She glanced out to see a blond man in dress clothes. That must be him. Putting on a small smile, the commander marched over confidently. She stopped a comfortable distance away from him.

"Are you Angelo Genovese?"

Considering how she would turn out years later, this lacked a lot of the warmth that her later self would have. She gave off a cool impression, but she was far from relaxed.

Okay, relax. Deep breath. He just kept telling himself that until the door finally opened, and then he suddenly forgot to breath for a few seconds.

Right. He could do this. He stood, offering his hand to the... okay, wait, what? His brain screeched to a halt, eyes flicking up to the ears rising out of the top of the woman's head before wandering down to -

Okay, no looking. Eyes up.

His brain slowly began to work, offering his hand for a shake as he took a deep breath. He could do this. Eyes up. Easy smile. "That would be me, yes. Angelo Genovese." And if he was lucky, she wouldn't be from New York at all. If he wasn't lucky... well, he would just have to cross that river when he came to it. "The chief said you'd be giving me my second interview." And this would be... well, the police commander. Second in command. Whose name he hadn't been told, which he'd just have to play around unless she happened to decide to introduce herself.

"Kiara Kaciania."

She noticed his eyes shift from her face to above her for a moment. He must've been distracted by the cat ears. Well, they certainly were an odd sight to see at first. At least it wasn't down at her chest; she would've ripped him a new one if he was too busy ogling her large melons. She could forgive the deviation. Thus far he made a good impression. His hair was notably long and spiky. He clearly tried to keep it in check for this interview, but she couldn't help but notice it. The man chose a nice suit for his outfit. Good, good.

She kept masking her nervousness with cool confidence.

"The chief's words were correct. Now come with me."

The cat woman could hear the chief laughing at her internally. How could a woman with her background be so afraid of hosting an interview? It wasn't even like she was being interviewed; she was the interviewer! The woman lightly nodded before turning around. She walked over to her office. Her heels clicked against the ground. Her strut was akin to a fierce model on the runway except less flashy. She totally meant business.

Which is why it was embarrassing when she almost tripped on her own door.

She caught herself just fast enough to cover and make it look like nothing happened, but she was screaming internally over it. How could she be so clumsy?! If she wasn't trying to cover up her mistake, then she would let out a frustrated sigh. Instead she went over to hold the door open for Angelo and waited for him to enter.

If you had asked him a few minutes ago if a giant-breasted catgirl could be intimidating, he'd have said no. As it turned out, he was wrong. The simple fact that she was going to decide (or maybe, anyway) if he was going to get hired made her very intimidating.

He genuinely had no idea she was nervous at all - or at least he hadn't, until she sort of tripped. She recovered so fast he was left wondering if he'd just imagined it, only he was fairly sure she had, only she'd caught herself, and that... okay, that made things a bit easier. She was human. Well, cat, but close enough. She could still make mistakes and wasn't some terrifying god looming over his immediate future.

He stepped into the office, taking a seat and adjusting his hair with one hand. It wasn't quite as long as it would one day be, but it was already down to his lower back, despite his best attempts to keep it under control. It wasn't going to work - it was always in his face, and a part of him liked having it in his face, because it kept focus off his scars. They were less glaringly obvious when they were buried in his nearly literal mane.

That said, he really wasn't sure what to say. He had no idea what she was going to ask, and he was afraid that if he said anything, that would open her up to asking exactly the wrong questions.
