Delaney was a little distraught when she discovered Sela was missing from school. The young teen had a million questions and no one seemed to know the answer. Sela's keeper didn't know where they had gone, and the school wasn't telling her anything except that they were doing their best. Her friend was missing! Didn't anybody care? Well, if the adults didn't know then it was up to her to find out. Delaney would tap into the voices in her mind and if she focused they'll eventually talk about Sela.

If only it was that easy. To get a usable range from her voices, she had to concentrate upon them, and that brought on headaches. Which limited Dela to being able to search maybe once a day for several minutes at most. And nothing usable! Nothing at all about Sela. Desperate, Delaney went to Sela's dorm, hoping that maybe she could find a clue in their room. Except, Sela's dorm parent greeted her with a smile and said Sela would be glad to see her.

"Uh, what?" Delaney said. Sela's dorm parent ushered her in and told Delaney where she could sit while they went and got Sela. Did. . . did Sela come back? Were they found? What the heck was going on?

When Sela heard the voice of Delaney in the doorway, they found themself a little shocked. Reason told them that their friends would want to check on them after they disappeared. The proof was the Nap Club being concerned when they returned. Still, Sela had trouble wrapping their head around having friends who wanted them back in their lives when they were gone.

Roland greeted Delaney in very casual wear. A tank top, sweatpants, and no shoes. The only thing proper about him was his hair. If he missed a day of combing it, it would get knotted up like crazy. Also, he was a little proud of its length.

While Delaney sat in the living room, he went to collect Sela. As expected, they slipped out of their bedroom the moment they knew Delaney was inside. Also as expected, they ignored him to greet her.

"Hi, Delaney. Hi, Georgette." Their blank expression betrayed the immense awkwardness they felt.

Roland rubbed the back of his neck. "Well... if you want anything to eat or drink, just ask. Pretty sure I got something Georgette can eat too." And with that, he went to the kitchen to make himself a sandwich.

Delaney fidgeted in her chair, then stood the moment she heard Sela speak. "Sela!" Relief washed over Dela, her friend was okay after all. "I'm so relieved-oh, uh, I'll be fine." She added quickly to Roland's offer for refreshments. Back to Sela, "I was worried and no one seemed to know where you went. Where did you go? I tried finding you but my dumb voices are so not convenient." She realized she was rambling and took a deep breath to stem the flow of words.

"What happened? Are you okay?" She wrung her hands, both anxious and worried. Delaney couldn't see Sela, couldn't tell right away if anything was offer different. She's gotten used to be blind, but moments like these really felt like a punch to the gut.

Sela quietly listened to Delanely's ramblings. When she finished, Sela looked at Roland, which he knew was a sign to finish up his sandwich and return to his room.

There were only the two of them now. Sort of. Sela almost always had company, and Delaney did too.

Curling up into a floating ball, they started: "I'm happy you care... I didn't think you would. I went to the Forbidden Forest because I didn't want to be here anymore. At the school. Surrounded by people. I'm okay. I have to be watched more often now... Sorry for making you worry."

Delaney shook her head. Of course she cared! She cared about all her friends because, well, because sometimes friends were all you had. "You're forgiven, because you're my friend. But, like, did something happen? It sucks you felt like you had to run away to the forest. And it really sucks they're watching you more now." She sighed, swarmed by too many feelings all at once.

With a little shuffling she found her seat again. "Want to talk about it?" She offered. "Get it off your chest. I'll keep it between the two of us. And if you want you can pet Georgette while you talk." Delaney motioned her dog over and unhooked the vest. Georgette rushed to Sela's side, sensing they needed some affection.

Petting Georgette was an awfully good offer. "I guess... Thank you," Sela muttered as they ran their hands through the dog's fur. It was sad that they couldn't feel the dog's softness, but they enjoyed her happy expression and the wagging of her tail.

"Nothing happened. Not really." They considered adding a shrug like they saw other people do when they were unsure of what they were saying, but Delaney wouldn't see it anyway. "I didn't like being at the school and talking to people. I wasn't... good at being a person. I didn't like it. A-And, um, a man I met while I ran away... This place is scary. I don't like it. It's not safe."

Delaney was quiet. Processing everything Sela said. It. . . "Shucks, Sela." Dela said, her voice quivering. Sela was so cool and unique, they shouldn't ever have to feel like crap. The school shouldn't keep them when they were unhappy. "You shouldn't have to be a person. You're you and that's all you need to be." She said, feeling like she could cry. "What can I do to help? Where would you feel safe?"

Whatever Delaney could do she would. It just wasn't fair! The school was supposed to be a helpfull supportive place but this wasn't either of those things. Delaney didn't know what she could do but she would try her hardest.

Now it was Sela's turn to be quiet. Instead of processing Delaney's words, they were processing her voice. She sounded... scared? Hurt? If this conversation happened the first time they came to the island, they would have been confused. If they questioned it in the first place. Now they wondered more about it.

"You sound... hurt," they replied. "I don't want to hurt you. I'm sorry. Do you want a hug? You..."

Putting their thoughts into words was difficult. Every time they became stuck, they had to ask Myst and Jao to help organize their sentences into something comprehensible. "What you said. Made me feel good. You're one of the few people. Who say I don't have to be a person. And I can be me. I don't want you to feel bad."

"I'm fine, I'm not hurt." Delaney shook her head, struggling to keep her emotions under control. "I'm upset is all. And, like, I wouldn't say no to a hug. But, like, don't force it for my sake." She took a few, deep breaths and that helped. "You're not hurting me. I'm hurt for you."

She fiddled with the hem of her sleeve, gathering her thoughts. "It's sad. Is all. Sad that I'm one of the few that tell you that, and apparently the few that think you should just be yourself. That's why I want to help. Even if it's only a little. Or if you want someone to tell you what you need to hear. Reassure you of the important stuff."

Sela gave Georgette a hug first since she was closest, then went to hug Delaney. There wasn't any special feeling to it. There wasn't anything to it from their side. But people felt emotionally better when hugged. Sela had certainly experienced that whenever Roland hugged them.

"I don't understand what you mean by being hurt for me, but... it's okay... I don't really know how you can help. Things are complicated, and..." They sighed, unable to find the words until Myst handed them over. "The island isn't bad, but I'm not fit for the island. It's for people, but I'm not people. They don't want me to be dangerous, so I have to stay here."
