Making her way down to the designated meeting spot, Celeste took in the view of the ocean before her. It was calm at this hour of day, the tide had just come back in and covered the sand and rocks below the pier. Sitting down on a bench, she waited patiently for Jude.

That morning, Celeste had put out an ad to do a simple challenge - Two Truths and a Lie - nothing too hard, just good fun. And within an hour, she had an answer in her inbox from Jude, Jude Genovese, a student of hers, she realised rather surprised as she read the message. She hadn't realised til today that he was part of the challenge actually.

Maybe because she hadn't really paid proper attention to the names on the list, having assumed the Genovese she had seen was Angelo. Though now, it did make sense. There were an awful lot of challenges with the name Genovese on them, and if she actually thought about it, too many, perhaps, for one contestant to do comfortably.

Jude wasn't quite sure how he felt about Wolfgang. Not really. He was cold and clinical, preferring to act on instinct rather than thinking things through. In a lot of ways, he was Jude's opposite, and most people would have assumed Jude would have avoided him entirely.

But he didn't. In a strange way, the coldness felt familiar. His dad was like that, the same in-expressiveness, the same cold. It felt normal, and he let himself just work with it as they got to know each other.

"Miss Forestier?" Jude said, giving a wave as he approached. "I didn't realize you were participating in the tournament."

"Jude, what a pleasant surprise," Celeste said as she got to her feet, immediately recognizing her student. He was new this year to her class, but so far, had shown quite the ability for understanding and remembering measurements, ingredients and the uses of those ingredients. He was, in fact, a delight to have in class.

"It's funny, but I saw Genovese on the competition list, but I assumed it was Angelo only," she said as she greeted him warmly, "Is Angelo related to you in any way?" she asked him curiously, thinking that she saw a strong resemblance there and now wonder if he was Jude's father or maybe older brother.

Jude kind of had an advantage when it came to cooking. All he had to do was read the recipe once, and he had it perfectly memorized. He knew the exact temperatures, the times, the weights. He didn't need timers either, since he could remember the exact second he put something in. It gave him a big leg up, but it didn't make up for his lack of experience. Mostly it just meant he didn't need reminders.

"We're the same person," Jude admitted. "I'm from a different timeline, and he's this world's version of me. My real name is actually also Angelo Genovese, only that'd be too confusing, so I go by Jude instead."

Technically he was down on the school's rolls as Jude now, although he hadn't been to start. He'd just gotten tired of explaining no, better to just call him Jude, so he'd cut out the middleman.

"Right now he's also my legal guardian."

Celeste just looked at Jude, eyeing him curiously when he told her that he was Angelo too, but from another dimension. Normally, she may not have believed him - but a few weeks ago, she didn't know regalia existed either and here she was with two bonded to her.

"Okay," she said with a grin, "So you are Angelo, but not from here. .. Strange but not that strange," Celeste conceded as she looked at Jude thoughtfully.

"I can imagine you are tired of having to explain that to people," she said with a smile, guessing now that she had probably just asked him the same question hundreds had probably asked before.

"More or less," Jude said, agreeing to the gist of her summary. "I thought it was going to be more of an issue than it was, if I'm being honest. I expected people to... put us side by side, and that was a contest I'd lose. But everyone's been pretty good with it. No one treats me like I'm.. a copy? An inferior version? Nothing like that."

Jude shifted a bit in place, the conversation weighing on his mind for a moment before he shook his head.

Wolfgang was staring at him, his expression as cold as ever. Jude had the distinct impression that he was being judged, and he opted to move on.

"So," Jude said, "Two truths and a lie? What rules are we going with?"

At Jude´s question, Celeste nodded, glancing at the man beside him thinking he looked rather severe.

"How about we do best of two out of three rounds. The truths also need to be facts about ourselves, not others or family... Oh, and one hint only if needed during the whole game," she suggested.

Wolfgang gave a brief smile - something that didn't reach his eyes, and didn't come off as comforting at all.

"I'll make sure no one cheats," Wolfgang said, with no clear indication on how he was planning to do so as he stepped to the side, observing the two of them as Jude stepped up to the metaphorical plate.

"So, we each do three sets? Or we do... back and forth or something? In which case, who goes first?" He liked the idea of a hint, at least.

"Cheat?" Celeste said, slightly taken aback by this, as she gave Jude's partner a look she normally reserved for unruly or rude students. "Why ever would you assume anyone is going to cheat?" she asked him very matter-of-factly.

Glancing then at Jude, seeing how uncomfortable he seemed, Celeste apologized, "Forgive me, Jude." she told her student, knowing she should not have lost her temper.

"How about we volley back and forth? You ask, I answer and so forth?" Celeste suggested."You can go first if you want? If not, I can." she offered.

Wolfgang showed no sign of backing down, fixing Celeste with a look that gave no ground at all.

"I don't know you," he said. "And I have no reason to believe you would or wouldn't cheat."

Jude, on the other hand, grimaced. He grimaced really hard, glancing between the two of them before doing his best to try and minimize things.

"Sure, we can volley," Jude said. "Do you have a Regalis coming?"
