"Come on, come on... COME ON!" Minna said to the black disk of a device in her hands as she tried to turn off her power. Though setting someone's nerves on fire wouldn't work on a machine, this device was meant to tell someone if their power was working. Minna's trouble was that this little device always said her powers were on. Hence why she was trying to practice at this particular moment during the day. However it seemed that getting angry at the little green dot telling her that her efforts were fruitless was not in fact working. Like all the other times she got extremely frustrated with the device before.

Minna had to stop then and look away from the black device and at the seanery around her. Taking a minute or so to calm down and clear her head. Her teachers always said that her powers came from her mind, that getting into a specific state of mind was usually required to activate a power. However she was trying to find the right state of mind to turn OFF the power and this had been her biggest road block for two years now. No combination of mental states or lack there of had done anything for her powers. So far the biggest thing about all of this was that she didn't know if it could be turned off, the only person it hadn't worked against was her big sister. But big sis was pretty much indestructable already so it was no surprise to Minna that her sis couldn't be hurt by her.

With a sigh Minna looked back down at the Power Detector device that they would normally give to younger students still trying to learn to activate their powers. "This sucks, this has always sucked. Everyone else gets to learn to do something cool. Like controling fire, or flying. I get this stupid power that only hurts. Why did I even get this stupid power." It was here that Minna layed her head back against a tree put next to the bench for shade. Minna was on the grass of course, she had long since gotten tired of the bench. It was to hard to properly concentrate on, even if the grass might stain her long skirt it still felt better to sit on for long periods of time. It was here that Minna exhaled a sigh once more before she heard a voice suddenly talking to her making her scramble away from the source of another potential victim. Her gloves were off right now and sitting on said stupid bench, she didn't have time to put them on right now.

Why did he have to stay on this island? There was nothing for him to do. Nothing that he found entertaining, anyway. All of his pranks led to him getting in trouble with zombies, vampires, or just everyday teachers. It was rare for him to find an actual normal human to mess with, but the majority of citizens here found it easy to spot him using his abilities, unlike back home. He was hoping he could spend his teenage years doing more pranks before having to hold himself back, but it seemed like he had to start much sooner than he expected. Maybe if he behaved well and showed he would use his abilities responsibly, he could go back early. There was always the chance of legging it when he turned eighteen, at least.

Entering the courtyard, Alex rubbed the back of his neck lazily while strolling through, looking for something fun to do. About time he made some friends here. He was already starting to earn a name as being that annoying human who never learns to back off. Instead of creating enemies with the supernatural and the freaks here, he should befriend them. At least that way he would no longer have threats from werewolves saying they were going to claw his face off, or having to pay debts to faes. Not that he had to pay any debts, but the stuff he heard about faes made him confident they were a species he had to be careful avoiding. There was also the bonus of having a cool group of friends with insane abilities.

There was one person that caught Alex's eyes in the courtyard. More like his ears. Her voice was too loud to ignore. She looked to be an average teenage girl. The only thing that stood out from her was her blue eyes, which Alex swore were glowing, and some black device in her hands that she was yelling at. This was Alex's chance to make a good impression on someone. She looked like an easy target, though Alex lived here long enough to know easy targets could be eldritch abominations or some horrible abomination like that. Still, it was better to start at a beginner's level than to skip straight to the blatantly supernatural.

"Hey!" His tone was cheerful and open, something he never had a problem putting on. "Having a problem?" She said something before he spoke, but he only caught parts of it as he approached her. Nevertheless, it was clear she was frustrated. "Is this something for your powers? Not sure how to help out with that, but it looks pretty cool. Can I see?"

Alex wondered if his tone was off in some way, as the girl quickly moved away from him at the sound of his voice. Putting his hands up, he stopped in place, laughing nervously at her response. "Woah there, I'm not gonna hurt you. Chill. I'm just a normal human." As normal of a human, you could get here, excluding the rare humans that had nothing freaky about them.

The strawberry hair threw Minna through a loop for a moment before she was able to catch up with herself and listen to the boy that had walked up to her while she was distracted. Minna curled her feet underneath her once she was a safe distance away from the boy she blushed at her current position but she eventually found her voice. "Oh... Um... hi... Sorry I didn't think anyone was close to me." Minna began to start getting to her feet as she talked now.

Once she was standing she brushed off her long skirt of any leaves or grass that was still clinging to the fabric. She noticed that she had dropped the Power Detector on the ground when she did her mad scramble away from the boy. Looking him over again like she was actually seeing him she had to blush once more. He wasn't bad looking but as soon as he knew what she could do he was going to start avoiding her like everyone else. "Could... could you repeat what you said before I was a little startled..."

Alex laughed again, but this time it sounded less nervous, though the awkwardness was still there. Even when he was not pulling pranks, people still reacted negatively towards him. Maybe this was another superpower he had yet to discover. If that were true, it would be a shit one for sure. No doubt someone had the power to scare people upon meeting, but if that were his, he would have to look into getting one of those power negation bracelets.

Putting down his hands, he smiled towards the girl and told her, "Hey, no problem. I was the one who popped out of nowhere. I could've given you more of a warning." He glanced down at the black device before picking it up and handing it to her. "Here. All I was asking was if you were having a problem with this thing. From what I heard, I'm gonna guess it's something for your powers, yeah?"

He was certainly polite and that made Minna feel all the more scared of touching him. She didn't want to cause him to fear her, especially with him being nice to her right now. When he motioned to give the Power Detector back to her she tried to think of something to say. "Could... could you toss my gloves over first? I... My power is dangerous on skin contact and I don't want to hurt you accidentally." Minna blushed a bit harder once she said it, her power still made her feel awkward about it when she was talking to someone new. She never knew how said person would react to hearing her say it out loud.

"But yes and no. It's one of the Power Detectors at the school to help with low level basic training. To help younger kids turn their powers on and stuff. I... haven't been able to get my to turn off..." She turned her head embarrassed as she said it. This should be something she learned to do within her first year on the island. Instead she had been stuck with it for over two years. Looking at him though she was still curious if his hair color was natural, though she didn't know what he was or if that would be impolite. Instead she felt herself blush again, she was certainly doing that a lot right now.

Dangerous skin? Alex felt he should have been more weirded out by that. Afraid, even. But that sounded tame compared to other things he witnessed here. At least her powers could be restricted by her gloves, which Alex picked up from the bench nearby and tossed towards her. Others would sometimes accidentally set objects on fire, explode something, and once some kid "accidentally" read his mind. As long as the girl could not hurt him from a distance, all was fine.

"Ah. I've heard of those things. I got off lucky and got powers that were pretty easy to control, so never needed them. What are your powers anyways? I got telekinetic or invisible arms or some shit like that. I'm Alex by the way." He could tell that the girl was embarrassed, or uncomfortable, or both. Whatever it was, he could see that she felt awkward being around him, so he tried to be as laidback as possible.

"I'm pretty new here, but I've seen some really crazy stuff already. I can already feel myself getting numb to most stuff people show me. There are eldritch abominations here apparently? I'm not sure whether to be amazed those things are real or start packing my bags, head home, and live safely somewhere else. Thank God for the laws here, right?" He knew he went on a bit of a tangent there, but it was hard to keep all his feels tucked inside. The island was crazy, and for many of the humans here to just act like all of this was normal made him feel delusional. Only a few agreed with him, though many told him he would get over it.

The first thing the boy did when she told him about needing her gloves was for him to calmly reach down and tossed them to her. Minna caught them with no trouble and slipped them on in well practiced manner as they slipped up her arms to rest mid bicept to minimize any contact potential with her arms as her shirt's sleeves over lapped it and secured her skin away from almost any potential touch that was not deliberate. She let out a sigh of relief once her gloves were on and she gave an embarrassed smile as she reached over to now take the Power Detector.

As she listened to him explain that he had learned his powers pretty quickly Minna lowered her gaze and began to dig a toe into the grass as she put her weight on only one foot to keep her standing. Though her long skirt would obscure anything so she doubted he would notice. "That's amazing..." She said she couldn't help but sound a bit wounded but it didn't last long as the boy began to explain that they were new to the island and that they were getting use to all the odder people living here. Minna looked up at him and gave a soft laugh. "Yeah, I was a bit worried when I first got here too. But I read a lot of books and some of them look pretty similar to nicer creatures in them." When he spoke about elder abomination things she tilted her head while she looked at him. "Do you mean like from Lovecraft's stories? I haven't seen any of those yet and I think they would be looked on with some care by the police." Minna put a finger to her chin as she thought.

Her thoughts were immediately intercepted by a different line of logic as she looked at this boy. "Oh, um sorry for being rude and not introducing myself. I am Minna Snow, If you'd like I've lived here for a little over 2 years now. I could show you around if you'd like?" Minna actually gave a wide beaming smile as she realized this could be the opportunity to make a new friend. He wasn't running away from her after telling him that she could hurt him by touching his skin. And he was trying to be nice to her and have a conversation.

Alex wondered if he was offensive in his wording. It would not have been his first time offending a supernatural on the island. He had been warned about that previously. Things were not like home. He could talk about witches, vampires, and werewolves like silly, illogical creatures that could never exist in real life. Once in a while, he would slip into that behavior, offending his partner by implying they could not logically be alive or that that sounded like some fake character from some show he watched as a kid. Now was not one of those extreme times, and while he did not precisely understand what wounded the girl, he knew something he said must have sounded rude.

With a laid-back laugh, Alex tried to fix the mood. "Yeah, the Lovecraftian eldritch abominations. I mean, I haven't actually seen once, 'cause I'd probably be in a mental hospital then, but I've seen people talk about being ones or showing off some of their powers. It's . . . uh . . . Interesting for sure. Anyways, I shouldn't care much. The police should look at everyone. I mean, you never know who's powers can go out of control, right?" Now that Alex realized may have come off ruder than intended, especially when he connected it back with the girl's power detector issue and her worry about not having her gloves. "A-Ah, sorry. I didn't mean it like that. I think you're great. One of the few people I've been able to have a semi-normal conversation with.

"Anyways, you're not rude. It'd be nice to have a guide, finally. I already got some tours, but it got awkward quickly. Mostly my fault. A human like me doesn't really 'get' this stuff, you know?"

Even though he was very blunt the way he spoke now was a little less harsh than a moment ago so it wasn't as bad. Though when he got to the part of people having their powers go out of control it didn't affect Minna as much. Though she couldn't control her powers at least they weren't going out of control everywhere. "Yeah, there are some dangerous people here. But they are few and far between I think. I haven't really run into any myself so I doubt there are many."

When he spoke about things being trouble some for him since he was human it made Her fold her arms in front of her and raise an eyebrow. "You do know I'm human too right? Parents and a sister and everything." Minna picked up the rest of her stuff and began to walk towards one of the buildings. "Come on, if you're going to have me show you around you're going to need to keep up."

"Oh right! Sorry, haha. I meant me being a human who recently came here. Didn't mean to imply you're not human." Alex followed, still laughing nervously from his fumble. "Anyways, how hard will it be to keep up with you? " Did she have some a transportation ability? With a place like this, she could have the power to teleport, fly, or run at light speeds. There was also the possibility of being able to go through walls or become invisible just to confuse Alex and make him feel lost. As long as she did not ditch him, he was okay with all of that. It only added to the fun of how mysterious and wild this island could be.

Walking beside her, he tilted his head towards her and with a smile asked, "So, where to first? I don't care about going to places I've already been to. I haven't been to a lot, and it'll be good to revisit them a few times until I can memorize them all."
