Trying to Keep My Cool

Since coming to the Academy, Deacon has not often gotten an oppurtunity to enjoy the feeling of being in water. He loved the water, and he wanted to go swimming. On this day, he figured that he should take some time among himself to go for a swim. But where could he possibly find a place to cool off, he thought. Then it hit him. He remembered the lake, just outside of the lawn. Great. So he decided to go there. He put on a red t-shirt and some blue jeans. Then he grabbed his lightweight drawstring backpack and filled it with a pair of red basketball shorts that he used as swimming trunks and a towel. He threw some white sneakers on his feet then proceeded outside.

He made his way to the lakeside. He looked around to analyze his surroundings. Nobody around. He jumped behind a bunch of bushes to change. He grabbed the 'swimming trunks' and towel from his bag, placed his shirt and jeans in the bag, tossed the bag to the side and moved along to the lake itself. He dipped his feet in the surface to test the water's temperature. It was cool, but just right for him. With that, he forced his body into the lake. He shifted his weight and laid back on the surface, allowing himself to float.

Dressed in her usual attire, consisting of her scarf, tank top, and cargos all meshing with various blues and blacks, Eloi decided to take a walk. She looked up at the sun, and welcomed its warmth to her cold, blue skin. Her face was expressionless, and stoic. She looked at no one. The students looked into themselves enough, so she decided she would avoid them for the most part. It wasn't like she could strike up a conversation anyways.

She came upon the lake, and walked along the shore, avoiding the water, but close enough to see the waves rolling in and out rhythmically. There was nobody around it seemed like, and Eloi was grateful. The less people to hurt, the better.

"Maybe I'll be able to keep to myself here..." She thought to herself.

Slowly moving along endlessly around the surface of the lake now, Cade flapped his arms to maintain his floating position. He gazed up into the sky with a straight face. He flapped his arms again to push himself in the upright position. He turned his body about face then dove under the water. He gracefully pushed himself forward then rose up to the surface. Droplets of water trickle down his light skinned face, and parts of his red hair were now partially blocking off his eyesight. His mind, body and soul would seem to be at peace as he enjoyed this moment of serenity.

He looked around to analyze his surroundings again, only to see a girl nearby. His naturally red eyes carefully examined the girl and her features. Her skin was abnormally blue, and she wore blue and black, not just your average girl, Deacon thought. Interesting... He quickly dipped his head into water hoping that she wouldn't notice him.

The wind played with Eloi's hair, and some of it flashed in front of her face for a moment or two before the pulsing wind let down, only to start up again. She sat down in the sand, her finger twisting around in the sand, making little symbols, and pictures.

It was a quiet day, and Eloi wondered why no one else was at the lake. Besides the wind, it was a fair enough day... No reason to not be at the lake... Though Eloi decided this would be the last time she would think about that.

She started to chew on the inside of her cheek, and raised an eyebrow, while she drew a picture of her experiences at the orphanage in the sand. It was a sad picture, that she soon grew frustrated with, and kicked it with her foot. Stupid drawing. Stupid orphanage.

She looked over the broad spanning of the lake, and noticed a ripple in the water. Eloi furrowed her brows, and tilted her head. Must have been a turtle, or fish or something... She thought.

Deacon arised to the surface after a brief moment and took note of her facial expressions. She seemed to a bit uncomfortable at first, almost as if she was expecting something to happen unexpectedly. But there was something about this girl, not just the blue skin and intriuging facial features, that seemed to catch his eye. She seemed to be the quiet type, but that wouldn't phase Deacon. Out of curiousity he decided to go along with this possible encounter, just to see how it could possibly result in the long run.

He slowly pushed himself back to the shore, his lean build now highly noticable. He reached down to the ground for his backpack and pulled out a towel and wrapped it around his upper body. He was now able to get a closer glimpse of her. He walked up to her with droplets of water running down his rather thin stature. "Hello there!" he greeted her hoping that she would be decent enough is to answer him.

Not a turtle, not a fish, or the Loch Ness Monster. But some boy who was swimming. She looked up as he pushed himself out of the water, as his movement caught her eye. She watched him as he wrapped his towel around himself and started to approach her.

Oh no.

Oh no.

Don't come over here.

Oh no...

Eloi looked up at him, waiting for him to say something, when of course, he did.

"Hello there!"

Not only was he up to greeting blue skinned girls, but he seemed friendly, too. She didn't want to hurt him... She didn't want to hurt anyone, honestly. She blinked a few times, thinking of some way to respond. She didn't want to use her powers, and well, she wasn't exactly up to verbal communication.

So she waved.

Deacon just glanced at her, examining her once again. Yup, she was definitely the quiet type. A wave was all he recieved as a response to his greeting. He shrugged at this then took a seat on the shore not too far away from the girl. He took a deep breath and made his attempt to start a conversation. This was going to be a tough thing to do in her case.

"Not a big talker are ya? Well, if your shy, that's fine. Or you just don't want to talk, that's fine. If ya had your tonsils removed recently, then that's fine too, though I think it's unhealthy to not talk." He looked over to her. "Yup, you're quite the silent one. No worries. Sometimes its okay to be the listener, but I must say that the last you need is a guy you don't even know talking your ear off." He paused for a moment then continued. "Okay, maybe you don't need that."

Eloi watched the dripping man. She watched him sit down, and closed her eyes slowly. What was she going to do? It didn't look like he was going to leave any time soon.

Then he started to talk.

Eloi chewed on the inside of her mouth some more. He didn't look like he was going to shut up anytime soon. She took a deep breath, and wondered what to do. She leaned forward and put her finger to his lips. She tugged on his ears, telling him to listen.

She then leaned back, and pointed to her own mouth, opening it. Then, she waved her hands, trying to explain to him she coulnd't speak. An idea. She took her finger, and smoothed the sand. She took her finger, and drew in the sand.

"I'm mute." She wrote, and pointed to herself.

Deacon was about to say something again when the girl pressed a finger against his lips and pulled his ear. What was that for, he thought. She seemed to be signalling him to just shut and listen. Was she going to speak at last, he thought. So he remained quiet, for once.

He watched her movements carefully as she stroked her finger though the sand. From the looks of it she was making out some letters. The letters spelled out something.

"I'm mute."

That surprised Deacon. Out of all the reasons there could possibly be why she refused to speak, that was least expected. His eyes widened at this, then he spoke again.

"Ah, well, that's fine also. I can do most, if not, all the talking, though I must warn that I can get out of hand at times and go too far, so if you think I'm talking a bit too much, you can...well...you can just go ahead and pull my ear again. 'Kay?"

Eloi nodded slowly. Apparently her being mute wasn't going to stop him from talking to her. She bit her lip slightly, and wiped the sand clean like a slate. "You still want to talk to me?" She wrote. She found that strange, but admirable all at the same time. Though, she couldn't say she wanted friends... She would only hurt them. Her powers were uncontrollable, and she hated it when they went haywire.

He seemed to be a hyperactive patient though. She nodded as he told her she could pull on his ears again if she wanted him to stop talking. She figured she probably would too. He definately seemed like a talker. Not only a talker, but a 100mph talker too. Great, just great.
