One downside of this world was that the language was foreign to Darzih. Before coming here, his owners allowed him to read during his breaks. It kept him subdued and kept his owners out of the way. A fair trade-off.

Now Darzih sat in the grass of the park struggling to read a basic children's book. His teacher told him it's okay for him to not understand the book immediately. All she wanted was for the class to get familiar with the words. That wasn't the issue. The issue was losing such a large skill and knowing he would have to rebuild it slowly, all the while dealing with everything else being thrown at him. If his previous life wasn't so boring, he would have asked to get sent back.

Darzih dropped the book with a huff. He looked over the book. That was enough for today. Calming down by observing the people in the park was what he really needed.

Serena had beenlooking for a time to preen herself proper, and once she found a good space in the park that was when she revealed her phoenix form whole and started to preen her feathers, being mindful to put any feather that came off during the process in a bag, planning to later use those in study or to stuff her pillow.

However a breeze took away one before she could grasp, and cue a monster bird chasing it on ground with a bag hanging in her beak, until she came to a stop in the line of sight of a creature she resisted the temptation of calling an human-like pegacorn. Serena didn't even know what to classify him, and the moment she saw him she knew...

"A pool of magic as well, I assume?", as she was still in the phoenix form, Serena laid down, rested the bag and put the runaway phoenix down into the bag, before pulling it under her chest, "Might as well introduce myself: Ília Seirín, Serena being a simpler name I go by in these lands."

Darzih's eyes easily landed upon the fiery bird. Wonder was not in his eyes, but discomfort. He stood up, wanting to keep a distance between him and a potential fire hazard.

It took some time for him to realize he was being spoken to. "Yes... I am." He eyed the bird up and down, then asked, Will I be set alight if I get too close to you?"

"These feathers are only warm and filled with light. Maybe they have healing properties, but I don't know for certain. All I know is that my very nature rejects harm. You may reach forth without hesitation.", Serena reassured and lowered her head to let him approach and pet her if he may desire.

Darzih shook his head. "I would rather not touch you. I was told to warn people that touching me will increase their magic." He paused, then continued. "I don't like touching strangers either."

"Cannot control the mana excess? It's understandable. I too can't control an aspect of mine, the serenity I bring about. Although, in my case, it has only once been a true bother.", Serena didn't sound troubled by her own issues at all, only a few times she desired to control it better, still... "What may you be? And more importantly: Who may you be?"

"It's simply a part of me. It's not something that needs to be controlled," he stated blandly. The serenity she brought up explained the calmness he felt. In case this bird was a threat, he didn't want to be too calm. He forced himself to stay alert, reminding himself that the bird still looked uncomfortably hot.

"I'm Darzih. An alien from another dimension."

"In theory, were we to come in contact, my serenity would spread much farther, and my aegis would be nigh unbreakable. But I'll leave theory to be theory, until you chose to apply it to practice by your desire.", it wasn't all theory: the magical anomaly that happened recently caused her aura to expand further, before the normalization was brought about.

An alien? "I don't come across many aliens in this island. Or in my decades living on this world.", the phoenix conveyed surprise in her tone, genuine at that. "And thy name has a fascinating sound to it."

"Yes, let's leave theory to theory," he said sternly, becoming more alert with this phoenix. If they were like the magic users back home, and some others he met here, he didn't want to be forced to do their bidding.

"Thank you for the compliment. Your name is unique as well... Are aliens not common here? With there being a space station, I assumed so."

"I am in agreement.", not only it was clear that Darzih is uncomfortable with the idea of experimenting with that, but Serena was uncomfortable with her power going beyond her full control, "Compliment to my name is well appreciated. I assure you there are aliens within the island, but that is just me that have not resided in this island long enough to learn about everyone."
