Xavier sat behind one of the couches in the lounge, on the ground. It wasn't that he was trying to hide or anything but just felt more comfortable remaining mostly unseen in the room. He wasn't exactly unnoticeable either, but it was kind of hard to hide as a 6'2" tall man. Being skinny helped somewhat but not really. Xavier had little to no experience with any demon who had treated him kindly. It scared him to death that he couldn't be a hell-hound with out one but to him no one ever would grant his wish. He was only made to grant others their wishes. Although Xavier would never let anyone know of these feeling. He kept his cold exterior up at all costs.

His shoes stuck from out behind the couch, while his head tilted back in thought. Trying to find someway to get back to being a hell-hound with out the employment of a demon. He grumbled a bit under his breath and then wove his fingers through his hair frustrated. School hadn't even started and he had no idea what he was going to do. He could only hope that demons wouldn't find out what he could do for them.

Chloe was making it a point for the DSU to introduce themselves to new kids. This was especially true if Chloe could tell they were demons themselves. So many students came to Manta Carlos with extremely negative opinions of demons. It would be best, Chloe thought, if she and her group could nip those in the bud before some hate group like those "Citizens Against Evil" got to them.

But she could tell that there was something demonic about this kid. It was a vague sense, even more vague than usual, but it was there. He was also very aloof, which fit the pattern of him being a new demon kid. A lot of new demon kids were afraid of being near others, afraid of themselves and what they would do.

Chloe sat down on a seat across from him. "Hello," she said. "I heard you're new here. I'm Chloe."

Xavier looked over at Chloe and couldn't help but roll his eyes. He couldn't go longer then a couple days on the island before coming face to face with another demon. His years of being away from demons was over for now and he guessed It wasn't going to get an easier from here on out.

" Hello," he answered choosing not to give her his name. " I guess you can call me new, So new that you've found me already. " He rested his head back. Chloe looked nice enough to him but his past told him not to be deceived by looks most demons only approached him to ask him to do something. He figured she was only playing the sweet act now and would ask him for something soon. Xavier couldn't help but tense up ready to run out of the room and case she did try and ask him to do something.

Chloe didn't know what that was supposed to mean. It seemed vaguely defensive. Disgruntled. Maybe he was even afraid? He didn't even give a name. She paused for a moment, reconsidering her decision to talk to him.

If he was afraid of her, that was all the more reason to talk to him.

"So, for the most part, I wanted to make sure you were adjusting well to the island. It's a lot to take in. And it's hard if you don't really know anyone here yet. Have they given you your placement exams yet? "

With all the irregular arrivals to the island, and their irregular degrees of education, new arrivals often had to take placement exams to determine how and when they would start their education at the Academy. Sometimes they started classes at the beginning of the next semester.

Xavier sighs realizing she was just gonna keep talking to him. " No I haven't taken the placement exams yet. I heard the Academy got a little behind on some things based on a virus going around. "

He sits up and looks her over a little noticing more then just her horns among others things that told him she was distinctly demon. He didn't know what kind or from what hell but That didn't matter much to him. A demon was a demon and that meant that no matter what she could easily ask him to do anything. He couldn't help the frown the formed on his face. " The island is fine, I really haven't looked around any. I mostly stayed near my room. "

He rolled his eyes Then looked back at Chloe again. " Xavier, by the way." He crossed his arms but mostly to get comfortable. He hoped that she would not discover how easy it was to control him but it was always a possibility.

Chloe just nodded when he mentioned the virus. She didn't want to think about all the time she lost on her studies to that sickness.

She interpreted Xavier's decision to stay near his room, and his behavior in front of her now, as signs of depression. He was agitated, he didn't want to be around people. "I was kinda like that too when I came here. It helps to get out more. There's a lot of cool people here, and stuff to do. I actually run a club called the Demonic Student Union, and plenty of people who aren't demons show up too." Chloe was sure to add that last part, in case Xavier was in the closet about it. "It's a good place to meet people. We don't bite, or at least not without permission."

Xavier thought for a moment. From what it sounded like to him there were plenty of demons on the island and that meant bad news for him. Any Demon could order him to do anything and It wasn't like there was some secret password to it either just some simple words.

It was hard to trust someone who could demand anything of you at anytime. Looking at Chloe, Xavier couldn't help but feel a tiny bit of remorse over his thoughts but he had been tricked by looks before. Even kids asking for something they don't know about could send Xavier to do something he never wished. " Listen I get it. You're like the welcoming committee and I'm the new guy right. " Xavier sighed. He didn't want to hurt her feelings or anything but he was going to have to set her straight. " I'm not exactly what you call demon friendly. It's not really the biting part that I'm worried about. "

Chloe regarded him for an uncomfortably long time.

"Whatever problems you've had with demons in the past, I promise you that we aren't all like that. Most of us just want to... get by, you know, and not cause any trouble. Just like everyone else here."

She sighed. "Is it a curse or possession or something? I know people who can cure that." There had to be some reason she was sensing something demonic about him.

Xavier stared off into space for a minute. He hated what demons had made him do in the past and he wasn't about to be a willing participant again.

" I want to do the same. Just get by and finish my last year of high school and see what happens afterward. I don't want trouble but it seems to find me and I have less ways to avoid it. " he talked cryptically trying not to give anything away about his past but still trying to make her understand.

Xavier shakes his head now confused by what she was asking. "What do you mean. I'm not cursed or possessed. I can't be cured. What are you talking about!" His anger raised a bit but mostly out of confusion. He had just met her and now she thought he was cursed.

He sighed trying to calm himself down. " I'm sorry, you just have me at a lost."

Chloe cringed a little when he raised his voice. She quickly tried to regain her composure.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean... um, that something is wrong, with you." She didn't understand what was making him angry or why he was raising his voice. "All I meant is, if someone who was a demon did something like that to you... we could help you cure it, you know? Actually, one of the things I've been thinking of doing is a set of public service announcements on what to do if you're... you know. Cursed or possessed." She shifted.

"The school also has free mental health services. I used them too. It's... not anything to be ashamed of."

Maybe she cared too much about strangers. Maybe that was why she kept doing stuff like this.
