Trouble

It was a long time since Gwen had gotten into trouble. About a week. She felt too obedient and needed to break this streak. She wanted the thrill of being caught at any moment. The caution when sneaking away. She was going to get into so much trouble if she got caught, and she liked it.

None of her friends wanted to come because they weren't like her. They didn't long for adventure, have a passion for expedition. They simply weren't as daring. They wanted to stay in the dorms and gossip. Gwen wasn't as girly as them. She was more brave and exciting. Though she wished they would have come.

It was so lonely out here. Not a single person, all to afraid of getting caught. What was the fun of discovering something if there is no one to share it with? Or get into trouble with? She was a little afraid but not much. "I am sure there is nothing out here," she told herself. Half of her wanted there to be nothing, the other half wanted there to be something

She continued walking, silently, deeper into the forbidden. What was the big deal anyway? What could possible be back here that is so terrible she, or any other students, couldn't handle? She had so many questions and they were all about to be answered.

Ember walked around the school, bored, as usual. It was probably about the thrid round across the school yard. She cursed at herself for allowing herself to get this bored. It was almost pathetic. She wanted to do something, anything. She wanted to scream at the top of her lungs, knowing she wouldn't be heard, she wanted to jump in a lake and know she wouldn't die, she wanted to do so many things, but didn't. And she didn't know why.

She stopped in her tracks and looked up at the sky. It was getting dark, and the stars were clearly visible. There were still clouds in the sky, partially blocking the moon's glow. She looked around adn found herself at the entrance to the forbidden area. She'd never ventured in there before, either she never thought of it before or she was just scared. Scared? ember? Yeah right. Inhaling and exhaling deeply, she headed into the forbidden.

She had heard stories about the forbidden area and how dangerous it was, but she never really believed them. Those were all campfire kind of stories, to scare people into not going in tehre or going in there as a dare. Ember was going in out of curiosity and boredom. As she walked deeper and deeper, the trees would thicken and blocken the light of the moon, so she conjered up a ball of flame to float in front of her.

As she walked along she heard footsteps. Gwen froze in her tracks. What if it is a teacher? she thought. She could get into so much trouble! She crept behind a tree.

The footsteps got closer and closer, louder and louder. Nervously, she looked around from her post behind the tree and saw a girl. Puzzled, she let her walk by. What is she doing out here? Gwen decided to follow her.

She silently walked 20 yards behind the girl and hid whenever she turned around. Gwen had learned sneaking skills from her father and didn't use them often. She felt bad for spying but told herself it was for a good reason. Plus, she was having fun.

The nervous feeling was long gone and was replaced by thrill and joy. She bubbled with excitement. She was getting what she came here for, adventure.

Walking along, she wondered what this girl was here for. The girl seemed to be here for no reason, here for fun. So far, she seemed normal.

Ember walked alone a small path in the forbidden area, the small flame was still floating in front of her. She still couldn't understand what was so forbidden about the forbidden, it seemed very peaceful and nonhazardous to her. Ember stopped for a second; she had heard something. It was faint, but she heard it, like something scrambling behind something. She turned her head and moved the flame around her, spotting nothing. She shrugged, guessing it was just her imagination and continued along.

Her walk was endless and led to nowhere. She thought that maybe it would never end. On occasion, she'd turn around, just to make sure that she wasn't being followed. Besides, it's not like she was going to some secret meeting deep within the forbidden area. During one of her checks, she thought she spotted someone duck behind a tree about 20 yards away form her.

Instead of going over to see if it was true, she decided to 'play along'. A small smile grew on her face, finally something to do.

She continued to walk along, as though nothing was up, before abruptly blowing out her flame, leaving her, and the person spying on her, in complete and utter darkness. Unless the girl could see in the dark, Ember's plan would work.

She shuffled her feet around to get the person confused before, getting a running start and jumping as far as she could, which was far enough. She landed directly behind the person and lit a fire ball in her palm asking, "What are you doing?"

Suddenly, it got dark. The girl had extinguished her fire ball. Gwen heard rustling and then nothing. Out of nowhere, the light came back on but this time, the girl was behind her. "What are you doing?" she asked.

Gwen panicked. She looked around for a place to hid but she was trapped and helpless.Confession time. "I was seeing if you were up to no good," Gwen said. "You seem pretty normal though." The girl just stared at her. Gwen shifted postion.

"I wasn't sure if you were going to bust me so I didn't let you see me. I didn't expect to find anyone out here to be honestly." The girl continued staring. "Anyway," Gwen continued, "what is your name? Mine is Gwen. "

Ember just had to laugh at the girl's reply. To see if she was up to no good. "Well, sorry to burst your bubble but...i'm not." She couldn't help but smile herself. At least she seemed normal. "Well, you seem normal too....i guess."

Ember shrugged, "Yeah, i didn't expect to find anyone out here either. You know, since it's forbidden and all. Ember extended her hand to Gwen. "Hi, Gwen, I'm Ember."

"Hi. Ya, what is with the forbidden? They say it is dangerous but I see no danger. I guess we will find out though." Gwen said. How nice to meet someone out here. Unexpected, yes, but nice. "And you never know who is up to good or not," she added with a smile. "Well, I am gonna keep walking, do you want to discover more about the forbidden with me? And, by the way, what brings you out here? I am here for fun. I didn't have anything better to do." Gwen smiled. Maybe Ember and I could get along... She thought.

"I haven't got the slightest idea." She answered. At least her and Gwen were on teh same page. "Yes...you never know. Well, at least now we know that neither of us were up to no good..which is kind of borning becaus eI was hoping for some more entertainment than you following me." She said with a smile. If she hadn't spotted Gwen spying on her, who knows how long time would've gone by with her staying in the shadows? "I will gladly join you! It sounds like fun." She laugh and began walking ahead the fireball going back in it place in front of them. She was quite a way ahead and almost left Gwen in the darknkess. "You coming?"

The light moved ahead of Gwen. "You coming?" Ember said. "Absolutely!" she said, running up to Ember.

"Nifty talent, fire. Can create fire balls for light and make campfires, Gwen told her, trying to make conversation. Remembering that this was the forbidden they were in and the trouble they would get in if they were caught, she switched to a lower voice, not quite a whisper. "My talent is air. So far I have learned how to make breezes and such.."

Being careless, she almost tripped over a twig. Regaining her balance, she continued walking into the darkness of the forbidden with her new friend.

"Yeah," She said with a smile. "It comes in handy when I'm trpped in darkness or to keep me warm." She looked around, seeing if she could spot anything out of the ordinary. At least more out of the oridnary for the school isn't quite ordinary. Ember noticed how Gwen had lowered her voice just in case they were spotted, so she did the same. "I've never met someone who can contorl air. That's really cool. So, can you make yourself float and stuff?"

She saw that Gwen and tripped, and out of instinct, grabbed her arm to help her gain balance. "You okay?"
