Tragedy Strikes

Andrew stood up and walked over to October. He carefully sat down next to her. "Hey, it's not as bad as all that." He said comfortingly.

October sniffed, and looked at him. "Yes it is! This whole thing was MY FAULT!!" she exclaimed, then looked away at him, closing her eyes and continuing to cry. If only she had been smart and given Alyeria something babies could actually eat... then this whole thing could have been avoided.

Andrew started rubbing her back comfortingly. "How so?" He asked calmly. He was still holding Alyeria, and she was starting to fuss, so he started rocking back and forth gently.

October sniffed, getting ready for Andrew to yell at her. "I gave Alyeria a roll, Dani ate it, and two seconds later they were BOTH sick," she said. "If I hadn't gotten that roll..." She sniffed up again, then started crying even harder. The girl was really hating herself right now, along with just life in general.

"It could have been something else that made them sick." Andrew said gently, even though he was pretty sure that they probably didn't eat any of the same food otherwise, since Dani generally didn't go around eating baby food. He knew she was bummed out, with good reason, and she didn't really need him to mention that.

The nurse appeared just then. Her face was grim, but Andrew, optimist that he was, told himself that she was still unconcious, and it didn't look good, but she would probably would be okay.
But the nurse just shook her head sadly. "There was nothing we could do to save her."

"It could have been something else that made them sick."

"Yeah? Like what?!" October asked, looking at him sharply. AS the nurse came out and said that there had been nothing they could do, the thirteen year old immediately went back to when her parents had died. She stood up, not being able to stand it. She started running for the hospital exit, running from her troubles for the first time in her life.

Adelina started crying, also realizing what that meant. She looked at Andrew. "Who should... go after... her?" she asked, gesturing to October and then looking back to him.

Andrew worked to fight back tears, but it didn't really work. His sister had, after all, been his best friend and only relative for long over ten years. He swallowed hard. "I will." He told Addie. He set Alyeria down on the floor right next to Addie, since it would be hard for her to hold both of the twins. He ran after October.

Adelina nodded. She picked Alyeria up, finding a way to hold both of the children in her arms. She certainly was a super mom! She started rocking the twins back and forth, trying to get them to stop crying and go to sleep, or at least just calm down.

October burst through the doors of the hospital running outside until she collapsed. She curled up into a ball on the ground, crying. She was a murderer... she was the reason someone had died... she couldn't believe how absolutely careless she had been. It was because of her that Dani was dead and that Alyeria was sick, and nothing could ever change that.

Andrew followed her until she collapsed. Then he sat next to her on the ground. He grabbed her arm and pulled her up so that she was sitting up. "It's okay, kiddo. Don't do this to yourself." He said, his voice dropping it's calm tone and turning anxious. "You're just going to make yourself sick."

October immediately clung to Andrew, crying in his shoulder. How could she not do this to herself? She had killed someone... not intentionally, but when it all came down to it, the blame had to rest upon her shoulders. No one else could be held responsible for the death of Dani, no one but herself. October still just cried, even if it would end up making her sick.

"It's still... my... fault... no matter... how you look.... at it.... I'm so sorry, Andrew..." the thirteen year old said, burying her face in his shoulder and continuing to sob.
